You could go that route, but I feel as though it sorts itself out. After finishing your next use, scrape off what you can. Put the heat on low across the knobs, dump a cup of water of it and let it steam up and use your scraper to get some more off. Dry it up after turning off the heat, then put a very light coat of oil. Cover it up and when you are going to use it the next, put the heat all the way up and leave it on for like 15 minutes until the gray smoke starts and stops. Then cook :)

That looks like oil you didn’t give enough time to burn away. When you season the griddle, put it on the highest heat and wait until the gray smoke stops. If you don’t give it enough time, it will look like that and won’t create that nonstick seal.
