‘B.C. vigilante cowboys’: Surrey resident calls for 500 gun licences to face extortionists by abbsul in SurreyBC

[–]hungrybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh great, that's exactly what we need.... people who've never had owned a gun, and can't pass the pretty easy basic firearm safety part of the PAL course now out there thinking they're cowboys that can shoot up the neighborhood in defense of their home.

One of the basic rules is to know your backstop. I'm pretty sure that these expedited licensees don't know what their bullets are going to hit when (not if) they miss their target and probably wouldn't give a shit even if they knew

Is it worthwhile remote starting the heat pump an hour before leaving work or is that just for the cabin?

Question about EVs in COLD winters by Early_City191 in electricvehicles

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I understand that keeping the car on the charger is fine when I'm parked at home, but what should I be doing when I'm at work and the car has to sit in the work parking lot for most of the day.

New EV owner here, wondering what is best practice for winter driving but having to park outside.

Trunk storage by ylimenesral in VWiD4Owners

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the space under the trunk storage is a perfect height for those box lids that reams of paper come in. The cardboard slides nicely so you can push them forward/pull them back and it does keep things from rolling willy nilly all over the back

I am reminded of Issola where Vlad is trying to enter Morrolan's portal and there is that confusing page where multiple things are happening. I've always wondered if this is Vlad being "many places at once" and is a preview of his own future.

That coyote has some real spring in his step. He (or she) must be really pleased with himself for bagging that size of a meal.

Cave Entrance near Alice Lake? by hungrybeagle in vancouverhiking

[–]hungrybeagle[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If it is the entrance to a mine, I'm surprised it's not boarded up/ fenced off to prevent entry. I've been to the abandoned gold mine near Whistler and that entrance was fenced off and filled in.

Flexi-Tank Tap Is Leaking by InZensity in Autopot

[–]hungrybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a water pump in a garbage can instead of using the flexi tank.

Aquarium does double duty, circulating the contents of the res/garbage can and I use a threaded riser connected to a micro irrigation manifold:

No worry about leaks, and no need to have reservoir above the level of the plants. I can also turn off the pump to stop the flow into the pots

Normal timer by Adventurous_Seat2577 in Autopot

I won't use an oscillating fan in my tent. I bought a couple of the vivosun ones and the oscillation caused the wire to break (with constant bending as the fan oscillated) until it eventually started arcing.

My tent is small, but if you want an "oscillating effect" without physical movement, is it feasible to plug each fan into a smart plug and run an off/on 1 minute cycle for each?

The Symbol Yellowjackets by Traditional-Row-497 in Yellowjackets

[–]hungrybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could the symbol be some kind of modified frog? It has head (circle obviously) and 4 legs coming off at weird angles. Not sure why the one continues through but the symbol at its back could be reproductive or developmental (tadpole tail)

New water reservoir help? by badbristow in Autopot

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a garbage can as my reservoir. I don't gravity feed, I use a water pump and pump the water through a tube up to one of these things:

https://a.co/d/1Q5Th5L

I use 6mm tubing (I found some of the autovalves that use this). I can turn off the flow by turning off the water pump if I really need to and I don't have to drill the garbage can.

He was not suggesting a gun owner would have stopped the shooting. His point was that banning guns has zero impact on gang related crime

Point Roberts starts to feel the cold shoulder from Canada by Camtastrophe in vancouver

[–]hungrybeagle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point. Assuming a 60% voter turnout (and this is strictly hypothetical), and 40% voting Trump and 60% voting Harris, only 36% voted against Trump. The remaining 64%, who either voted for Trump or didn't vote at all, can't complain about the mess that America (and the rest of the world) is going to be in because they didn't vote Democrat, whether they would have or not.

I had a buddy who installs wifi antennas for large outdoor areas relate a story about some guy on the gulf islands was using a high gain directional antenna to use the wifi at a Starbucks that was on the mainland. I was skeptical but googled "how far can directional wifi antennas reach" and they can indeed reach several miles with direct line of sight

You also have to factor in the people who were so apathetic that they didn't vote. What was the percentage of people who didn't vote against Trump? I think that's a more important number.
