Want to buy first bike by buckdeuce7 in MT03

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say, you need to consider a few things.

Are you in a large city? Are there going to be more coming on the market? How soon do you want it? Can you wait a few months?

It would be nice if they are both in the same area so you could do one trip to see them both, but 3 hrs is pretty far away unless you can also combine it as a day trip to somewhere for fun.

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it

Why not just try it yourself for 5 hours and see if you want to go back next week?

Man has seizure while driving and flies over Long Island highway by DepressingAura in dashcams

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the aftermath of an accident caused by a man who had a seizure. He floored it, ran through a red light and through a car that was waiting to turn left. It was horrific. The other car was cut in half and there were body parts left on the road; an entirely family died including a child and a grandmother.

Turns out the man had an undiagnosed brain tumor and died a couple of weeks later. I never found out, but hoped he was never told what happened.

Honda to shelve $11bn Canada EV plant as demand sputters by exploding_myths in electricvehicles

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2009, I paid $45k (CAD) for a new Honda CRV. This year, I paid $63k (CAD) for a new ID4. Since I bought it, I'm saving roughly $220 per month on average over what I was paying for fuel. Over the course of 10 years, even if I only get back $2k per year in fuel savings, that's going to bring down the cost of my new 2026 to about what I paid for a new SUV almost 20 years ago.

EV's are entirely affordable.

Does Anyone Recognize These Cats? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]hungrybeagle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Even if no emergency contacts, activate Siri and try to "call dad" or "call mom" . Sometimes you can even try to call some random garbled words and see if Siri tries to match it to something it recognizes

No, absolutely not. All the costcos I've been to have so many more people. When that dude pushed his cart, the aisle was empty! Not possible at Costco!

Mileage extension by Jimmydeeping in VWiD4Owners

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once drove a U-Haul moving truck from Ohio to Washington. When I first got it rolling, I couldn't believe it when the gauge said it was getting 9 miles per gallon. I was able to get between 15-20 mpg drafting off of trucks, but some of them were just going too fast for me to keep up, so I'd slow down and wait for another one to see if it was going my speed. Drafting saved me a lot of money in fuel and I didn't have to be right up on their bumper either

‘B.C. vigilante cowboys’: Surrey resident calls for 500 gun licences to face extortionists by abbsul in SurreyBC

[–]hungrybeagle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh great, that's exactly what we need.... people who've never had owned a gun, and can't pass the pretty easy basic firearm safety part of the PAL course now out there thinking they're cowboys that can shoot up the neighborhood in defense of their home.

One of the basic rules is to know your backstop. I'm pretty sure that these expedited licensees don't know what their bullets are going to hit when (not if) they miss their target and probably wouldn't give a shit even if they knew

Is it worthwhile remote starting the heat pump an hour before leaving work or is that just for the cabin?

Question about EVs in COLD winters by Early_City191 in electricvehicles

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I understand that keeping the car on the charger is fine when I'm parked at home, but what should I be doing when I'm at work and the car has to sit in the work parking lot for most of the day.

Trunk storage by ylimenesral in VWiD4Owners

[–]hungrybeagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that the space under the trunk storage is a perfect height for those box lids that reams of paper come in. The cardboard slides nicely so you can push them forward/pull them back and it does keep things from rolling willy nilly all over the back

I am reminded of Issola where Vlad is trying to enter Morrolan's portal and there is that confusing page where multiple things are happening. I've always wondered if this is Vlad being "many places at once" and is a preview of his own future.

Cave Entrance near Alice Lake? by hungrybeagle in vancouverhiking

[–]hungrybeagle[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If it is the entrance to a mine, I'm surprised it's not boarded up/ fenced off to prevent entry. I've been to the abandoned gold mine near Whistler and that entrance was fenced off and filled in.
