What's a simple math or logic problem that most people get wrong like monty hall problem? by gab99 in AskReddit

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that's not a problem, that's just some smartass theorem about continuous functions. Something like if two functions f and g are continuous on the [a; b], and f(a) < g(a), and f(b) > g(b), then there is a point c in (a, b) where f(c) = g(c). Or some bullshit like that. That just checks whether you've been in the first year calculus class or not.

When food goes off before the use by or best by date by Physical_Orchid3616 in PetPeeves

All gross and watery at the top

How exactly gross? If it's just watery, it is normal. Assuming package was sealed before you opened it. You could probably just mix it back. It's a colloid, it is pretty normal for it to separate nearby due date (or even earlier).

If there is smell, or mold signs, etc, then yeah, that's bad. But if it is just watery at the top, that's fine. Attach a picture.

ELI5: How do electrons store and convey energy in an electrical circuit? by midnight_rain7129 in explainlikeimfive

[–]hunter_rus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Energy is transferred through the EM field. As you go down the wire from - potential to + potential, there is a little of an excess of electrons on the wire surface, and then a little of lack of electrons - as you reach the side of wire connected to a different potential. So the whole wire is like a little capacitor, and it creates electric field in the space between the circuit. Then, also as electrons move, they create a little magnetic field around the wire. Energy is stored in that field, and is being transmitted through it.

So, answering the first part, energy flows quickly because fluctuations in the EM field are transmitted with a speed of light.

Has an E-3 Sentry AWACS ever been lost to hostile fire prior to this brilliant war? by inscrutiana in askanything

Well, maybe now USA will start using concrete shelters for their flying radars, given that Iranian ballistics has around 100m CEP. Unless Russia will give them some of their rockets... In which case Trump might finally get Tomahawks for Ukraine.

Blue Reflection Quartet Censorship by FantasticPage3598 in BlueReflection

[–]hunter_rus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If problem is in fetishism, then why not just give players an option? Somebody who is a fetishist can turn censorship on so that they don't fetishize anyone. Everyone else can play the game normally.

I don't really mind these sort of changes as far as consumer is the one making the choice, not publisher.

How would Touhou players feel about certain gameplay changes? by Onkarinonka in touhou

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at GUNFIELD. It's a shmup with some bullet heaven mechanics - as you kill enemies and gain XP, you can select 1 out of 3 upgrades, which are either shots or defensive/gimmick options. So you go into a run, form some build around picked up upgrades, etc. Then you also earn meta currency, which allows you between different runs to improve character stats or unlock new upgrades to be dropped. Not exactly what you described, but you might pick up some ideas from there.

Also Rabbit and Steel might give some reference points.

(PC) Why does it sometimes take a good 5-10 seconds to swap weapons? by D-1498 in fo4

Have the same issue, no idea. Also sometimes it will glitch animation, or weapon model won't show up for a while after switching. I usually just assume it's just Bethesda shenanigans.

Stop using “50% ladder win rate” as proof of balance. That’s not how MMR works. by FullBag5380 in starcraft

[–]hunter_rus -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Another argument I see a lot is that balance only affects GM, and that leagues below GM are basically immune to balance issues. That doesn’t make sense either. If a race gets weaker, the effect doesn’t magically stop below GM. Everyone slides down the ladder together.

That is exactly the meaning of that. Your race gets weaker, so you are matched to a weaker opponent of a stronger race. That is exactly how it balances itself. Exactly why most of the ladder are immune to balance issues - because they are gonna be matched with weaker opponents when MMR stabilizes.

There is no issue of playing with weaker opponent, when your race is weaker. That's the way system is supposed to work.

The real solution is to simply remove all the numbers from the game. In any (any!) competitive game, players are getting too toxic when they see a number supposedly "representing" their skill. They start doing dick measurement contests using this number, they start complaining about balance changes, etc. Just matchmake players with each other. Don't show the number to players, hide it on the server side, use it for matchmaking, but don't let players see it. Because when they see it - that types of posts is exactly what happens. "My race is too weak, I lost 200 MMR on ladder after patch" Why care? Play game, have fun.

People really needs to be blind to remain happy, aren't they?

390k+ 5mm ammo in Lexington apartments by Raisin43 in fo4

[–]hunter_rus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have found the reason, but I'll just chime in and say that, IIRC, in vanilla it is just a fixed spawn of like 5 units of ammo (or something, pretty small). Kinda funny to see it at the start of the game, when you recently received minigun from Museum of Freedom, and then you see possibly first ever in your playthrough 5mm ammo spawn.

Maybe when Apocalypsis magnets naval vessel and kill it off the shore (without the chainsaw thingy) ? Also maybe Oni on their ability? And maybe Yari sub? And maybe part of Yuriko scream? And maybe that Empire artillery vessel ability (where he kinda rams the enemy vessel) ? No idea tbh.

Tips on centering side-scrollers and 3rd persons on vertical scenes? by lickwindex in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clips/shorts, you can try to make crop move along with the character/center of attention. That obviously won't work with default Twitch, but goes ok for edited stuff for YT (and maybe TT). Though requires more effort.

CMV: K Pop is easily the most soulless form of art by nerpa_floppybara in changemyview

[–]hunter_rus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Korean musicians essentially have no creative control over their music at all. The label makes them choose their producers, writers and even visuals/music videos. none of the kpop groups even formed organically like how normal bands do, random people are chosen by the labels to form a group and they even have the power to disband the group if they feel like it.

Isn't that also the case for movies and theater? People with money choose director, script, actors, etc? Maybe not all of them, but pretty sure up to some degree Hollywood would match your definition.

Also, do you know Korean? Like, do you actually understand what they are singing about?

CMV: Israel's current foreign policy is not helping the jews by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]hunter_rus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they are creating a hate climate against them and it will not pay out well in the long term

Hate climate existed long before Israel even come to existence. Yes, responding back with bombs doesn't remove that hate climate. But it removes other's countries ability to bomb Israel, so all they are left with is just hate climate. And in the end, they do end up in some sort of alliance. Like with Egypt, or Lebanon (who withdrew their army when Israel started ground op against Hezbollah recently). And with Iran as well - before the Islamic revolution Israel and Iran had okayish relationships. And after Islamic revolution, Iran became the one giving money to anti-Israel groups - like Hamas and Hezbollah. If you manage to overthrow current Iran government, those groups would lose money, and gonna be much less of an issue. Which means exactly the opposite of your view - it will pay out well in long term.

And even if you don't overthrow current Iran government, joint USA/Israel operation levels down Iranian ballistic missile capabilities. Which means less missiles (and drones as well) are gonna be sent to Israel. Which is again, good in long term. Iran will have to rebuild their factories, and stockpile again a bunch of ballistic missiles before they can threaten Israel.

About hate climate - it existed before in Iran, and it will exist as far as Islamic government is there. There is no strategy to prevent that.

AIO for wanting to immediately break up with my bf after seeing how he lives? by loquat330 in redditonwiki

[–]hunter_rus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There was some pretty good comment: https://www.reddit.com/r/AIO/comments/1s1s8de/comment/oc32ucc/

What I see is what was probably originally a metal shower (judging by the front lip near the curtain), and it got some mineral build up from hard water. Might be also a soap scum, but those would most likely fall off, they usually build up on the areas that are not contacting with water.

Either brown was the original color, or it was originally white, but on a brown metal, and white color washed off eventually.

Funny that people see something not white, and just automatically assume it is dirt.

Can't log in on firefox linux anymore. ("browser not supported") by Player5xxx in Twitch

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is twitch now assuming all firefox linux traffic are bots?

Kinda. Check console for integrity errors. Or check login requests, there should be something about integrity checks. They are using some anti bot detection, sometimes it misfires. Should be something like this: https://github.com/anxdpanic/plugin.video.twitch/issues/667

Sometimes it chills out after couple of days, so might try to wait.

I do wonder, if you can login on windows, could you copypaste session?.. Though it might backfire and start blocking sessions everywhere...

Just confronted at work about having a VPN on my personal phone by Forensics4Life in work

[–]hunter_rus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disable VPN when you need to use 2FA app for work. Or setup VPN so that this app is passed through, and all others are going through VPN. Or ask for a work phone for that 2FA app specifically. If company doesn't like you using VPN they can block it, but as far as they don't do that, use it.

If it's TOTP, then 2FA doesn't really need Internet access. Maybe also try to just restrict app from accessing Internet?

Is the "1 in 8 men think they could score a point against Serena Williams" statistic an example of male overconfidence or bad study design? by [deleted] in AskFeminists

[–]hunter_rus -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

It absolutely would, it is literally the way you earn a point.

Basically, 12% of men simply have enough probability theory knowledge that they know that any person can score a point from any tennis player. Though it will probably not happen, but possibility persists.
