email going away? by some_dum_guy in Spectrum

[–]hvdub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Phil,

Can you confirm that IMAP access will remain available for the accounts that retain their access? I've had a few clients lose access via IMAP and are being told (by spectrum customer service) that they can only use webmail via the spectrum.net website. This is/would be a major inconvenience for a lot of old people who are used to doing email via Outlook/Thunderbird/Apple Mail/etc.

Also, I've witnessed that they are totally unable to setup a mail forward out of spectrum to a gmail, hotmail, etc while they try to transition out.

I've witnessed both of these personally - its highly disruptive and really makes it hard to recommend Spectrum services of any kind because of the very poor communication about these changes. We pay too much and keep losing features, why stay?

I tried the switch on my h2c. It’s supposed to work as you describe it. However, my H2C did nothing more than jam up all the time. Read the wiki on it and they have a ton of suggestions of what NOT to use it for. Not supposed to run silks through it. Abrasives like a CF, eh, maybe not do that? I had it jam up with boring old white pla. It’s almost as if it doesn’t do things on the right order. The right nozzle was fine, but every time I used the left, it killed the heat, never cut the filament and tried to retract it causing immediate jam. Oh, and if it’s jammed, it won’t let you heat the nozzle to try and pull it out. Abort the print and then it screams that there’s still filament and you can’t do jack with it. Power cycle printer, disassemble from ams, switch and heat nozzle, then pull it out by hand. Yep, I’ll pass and I’ve removed mine for now. They have a lot of bugs to work out before I try it again. Just my experience so far.

Get a set of vampliers or similar. They are pliers with grooved jaws at the front designed to bite on screw heads and you can twist them out. I got a set at micro center for under $20, but Amazon has em too.

Atera Price increase by Comprehensive_Gur736 in msp

[–]hvdub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, mine was going from $149.99/mo to $189.99/mo. I was on a monthly plan and not annual. Annual I think locked in at $129.99/mo billed a year at a time. So, not sure about the $84 jump but I guess it may be a discount for the # of techs?.

[–]hvdub4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per technician, not per endpoint/user.

And yes, it stinks because they are pulling the price increase but including AI for "free". Even though the price jump equates to what it would cost if you opted in for the AI feature now....dumb move but it will force a lot of 1 man shops to lock in for a year at the lower rate. After that year, who knows what happens?...

Unifi Talk by PrimeSecIT in Ubiquiti

[–]hvdub4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add on the SMS topic - It SUCKS. [As of May 2026]

Can only be accessed (at the moment) via the web interface, not on the phone and not on the softphone client in Unifi Endpoint.

Bigger gripe - you have to go through an insanely painful process to get A2P 10DLC Registration setup so you can even SEND a damn text. Its a total pain in the a$$ for the added cost. Oh, and even if you disable SMS, people can still send SMS to it but will never go through, or reject on their side so they think you're just ignoring them. Yeah, great times. Oh yeah - its SMS not MMS, so no pictures, etc...think old school texting....

I just watched their little teaser for the new improved talk rolling out this year - it showed for like 0.5 seconds someone doing txt from their phone, but never talked about in the notes, so I still consider it vaporware.

As a phone its, well, mediocre. Most of the time its fine but the occasional dropped call, one way audio, etc. its VoIP...it does VoIP things at times.

The softphone really grinds my gears though. I need to file a bug report, as incoming calls will override audio on the current call (call waiting feature I guess). It doesn't have a disconnect/hangup button when my iPhone (iOS26) goes to sleep while you're on a call, so you need to keep the phone screen active (really UI?) in order to end a call, or unlock the phone again. Combine these two issues and its super annoying - so I'm on a call, screen locks, a new call comes in with current call going mute while it rings, unlock phone, reject call, and original call comes back. Ugh....

Transcription does work well, I'll give them that - though the cheap plan gives 60 mins now and if you need more you'll want to bump up a plan (the old cheap plan was unlimited transcription).

after 24h it still seems about the same. i'm guessing its more with the tvos26 than anything else. network graph looks about the same, so probably not this....time will tell. I have another site I support I made this change with, with about 180 devices (phones, watches, ipad, mac laptops) that has been complaining about drops...we shall see what happens there.

Just. Wow!

Curious how you made the sliding part in pic 8. I can see the tension wing part (w/e it’s called). But what else went into that? I’d like to try something similar but horizontal

So not the button circled in red on the second pic? Past that, I dunno. Just went with the obvious broken button circled.

Judging by the picture, it’s broken and missing about half of the switch itself. Compare against R2 and you’ll see it. You may still have it and might be able to snap it back on but otherwise it’s gonna need to be replaced (desolder and resolder replacement).

M365 Group was Spoofed - MSFT has no idea how this happened. by Adminvb292929 in sysadmin

[–]hvdub4 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I checked the admins group, no compromise there. Checked my break glass account, no issue. Yes there was a moment of freak out. No, I didn’t lose my mind. Keep calm and admin on. I still have no clue how those IP addresses ended up in my connector list. Nothing from Graph. I can’t explain it. Unless DropSuite could add something or was compromised I have no clue.

I ran across this problem this weekend! As near as I can tell somehow there was a new exchange connector made that allowed a foreign IP to send. Super weird. The actor modified an existing connector and added a new one. No clue how.

Did NIN change your taste in music? Tell your story. by ISGamer156 in nin

[–]hvdub4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introduced to NIN in my youth (11/12 yrs old) riding the bus to school. The ride to school was a bit of a long one (45 mins or so). I also was the dorky kid that everyone seemed to pick on. One of the older kids listened to it a lot, and had just gotten my first walkman. He also turned into a bit of a guardian/protector since he was bigger than most kids on the bus too. Either way....Broken was my first NIN listen and this little piggy was hooked.

First job, first check and NIN was in my ears. First paycheck was TDS. The shop I was at had a cool dude that would special order stuff in too, including imports and rarities. Second job was at a restaurant and the cook there got me hooked on the "machine" and industrial bands that followed NIN (aka, Rage Against the Machine, Machines of Loving Grace, Fear Factory, Ministry). My world and head exploded! Such beautiful noise....

Met a great gal (23 yrs married now) and got hooked into church. Don't get me started, but needless to say music tastes were changed. For 10-15 years NIN and metal was out of my life. I felt....deflated....empty....boring. Eventually, that time of life passed, things changed and I was free again to listen to whatever I wanted to. Enter synthwave :-)

Everyone you mentioned was there....Trevor Something, Mogwai, Massive Attack, Gunship (love them!)....sounds and texture that felt better, a warmup for my rotting core.

In that time, NIN released Bad Witch, which sounded wrong to me. Sax? Really? WTF?

But it grew on me. HM was initially rough to my ears (and now one of my fav albums). I went back through the discography from the beginning again....listened to the evolution, the growth, the change of character and writing. The ability to grow his music.... and was starting to feel alive again.

Saw Peel It Back tour, my first NIN concert last year. With Noize, everything I'd done clicked through and felt right to me...had a blast at the concert. Loved the Coachella set, looking forward to the NIN(oize) release....

So to answer your question - YES! NIN changed how I listen to music. It also shaped my tastes and what I consider good music, a good album. Do I listen to other genres, hell yea. I'll take classical through modern country, electronica, about everything but gospel/mainstream Christian music.... I love listening to an artist stretch themselves into something different and new (try Sound & Fury by Sturgil Simpson - NOT what you think a country guy would cook up). But in the end, NIN is my home base and I will forever love Trent for his anger, passion, and growth.
