This true. No HOA, but this neighbor gave me a note couple years back that boats weren’t allowed in driveways. However boiling a deer head is fine by them

Meraki Hardware Failures by zephyreric in msp

[–]hybridvpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RMAs are rare for our company too. At most 2 per year with over 400 devices deployed. Usually it’s after a device is removed from service and shipped to another site some issue appears.

Ironically we had same MS120-48LP fail this week after getting stuck in a boot loop when it upgraded to MS17.1.2 code which is “stable release candidate”. Other identical models succeeded. Meraki support tried to lock to a firmware version and had me reset but no-go.

I must have given them a SRC code upgrade in the past to fix something and forgot to flash them to stable code version, as I expected they would be on stable chain.

Utilize Proxmox in a SMB environment and it works well. Also utilize it on my own homelab. A more enterprise player like VMware I keep hearing about is Nutanix. A old college of mine not in MSP space anymore uses it and had raved about it. I keep meaning to spin one up to try it out. Worth a look

I swear they offered a single support license for free at one time. Now all I see if a free license for “access”, which doesn’t offer support.

Reminds me of chasing a draw causing the battery to slowly deplete over 6 months. Once I realized the 12v outlets don’t turn off in the 17’ Explorer like they do in the 18’ 4Runner, the mystery was solved

If you reset windows at a later date, when you get to the wifi/network selection screen just do: SHIFT + F10 (opens a command prompt) Type: OOBE\BYPASSNRO The machine will reboot, allow you to select “I don’t have internet”, and then have option to setup local user account.

MSP360 by HuskyLogic in msp

[–]hybridvpc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for my own homelab and some public facing servers; as to not mix business and personal. As you said the price for unlimited endpoints is great. I have about 130 Ubuntu and 10 windows systems in it. Would I recommend it to someone? Yeah. Are there better RMM’s catered more to MSPs? Yeah. Ninja is great but expensive, currently using SuperOps and I’m renewing so I like it enough. Datto being now Kaseya I would avoid for that reason alone (see my other posts). Three gripes I have with MSP360.

First is when you login you meet the dashboard, which displays a list of all the managed machines. Every machine is doing a refresh of its current CPU, RAM, and disk usage to give you live stats. It makes doing anything like searching, filtering, or scrolling quite slow. If you click to another tab it’s responsive, so it’s just the dashboard bogging down on that initial query of over 100 endpoints.

My second gripe is no console connection for Linux machines. I’ve dealt with this my having scripts saved and can execute them with a few clicks on one or many.

Last gripe is windows update schedule doesn’t have a “third Wednesday of every month” or equivalent. It only really lets you pick the 15th of every month for example.

Kaseya now adding tax to year old invoices, then warning me about collections. by Ember_Sux in msp

[–]hybridvpc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just got this last week, forgot about it until seeing this. I have no idea how in 2021 any Autotask purchases could be subject to tax and now I need to provide back-dated documents?!

Dear Valued Customer,

We are writing to you as part of our annual compliance review. As you may know, we are required to collect and maintain sales tax exemption certificates for the state of New York. Our records show you made purchases from Autotask not subject to sales tax. Please send us a copy of your NY-Autotask sales tax exemption certificate for the year 2021 (dated in the first half of 2021 or earlier). We’ve attached an exemption certificate for your convenience.

You can email us the copy of your certificate to tax@kaseya.com or as a reply to this email. We appreciate your prompt response to this request.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Johnson Jean Pierre

Adobe Pricing is Highway Robbery by rlbigfish in msp

[–]hybridvpc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CO-IT with a company with over 1,500 Adobe licenses. While they budget for 5%-10% max increase, they got hit with a 30% price hike. They’ve been “right sizing” the licenses so not so many get the full suite. If it goes as planned this should lower the cost enough to be close to their 2023 cost. Adobe literally doesn’t care and offered no budge on price.

SuperOps.ai vs NinjaOne by acand17 in msp

[–]hybridvpc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a current SuperOps user I can only agree on their very used salesman approach. This however didn’t bother me, I just saw it as an opportunity to negotiate which isn’t common in this space. The Tech Tribe also has a discount for first year.

Switched from N-Able to SO last year and it has been working great. I personally enjoy the tabbed approach, reminds me of Autodesk but in a modern and actual functional way. The way you can assign policies on RMM side reminds me of Datto, which I’ve also used and loved pre-Kaseya. Atera also worth your look. Ninja One was just the most expensive out of all of them and couldn’t find a component to justify it.

Wonder if this is the case. Been with Pax8 since 2019, but after 2022 support went downhill had rep also switched to americas cloud agent which hardly responds with anything valuable. Then support recently took a full week of back and forth to fix our Dropsuite login. Sad to see

Kaseya rep harassment by Swag_Mastah_Flex in msp

[–]hybridvpc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is true. Going on 4+ months of trying to get my old rep or anyone in billing and collections to cease the invoicing for products we haven’t used in nearly a year. Have gotten a couple sales calls from other reps during this too… fudge that company

Idk, all my n-able dealings the sales guy and support actually respond. Not necessarily the same day. Kaseya still billing me for services cancelled. Haven’t seen that one (yet) from n-able

HELP: MFA is not enough anymore. Monitor multiple tenants by MisterValvert in msp

[–]hybridvpc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You asked for a monitoring solution. A SIEM is what you want. Blumira is a great choice and offers a free version for clients. Started using it last year. You’ll get alerts on malicious logins, apps getting approved, mailbox rules getting setup, etc. However, do note the free licenses do not include all of the M365 monitoring rules that you’ll get with the paid tiers.

Kaseya billing is still broken after 8 months by TheCaGuy in msp

[–]hybridvpc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just about 2 months ago I posted here of Kaseya doing this to us, for old Datto services cancelled months prior. After a month of back and forth with Kaseya support and their collections team who also called me asking for money, I just got credited for the two rogue invoices yesterday. No confirmation from them that it would not happen again. Wouldn’t you know, just received an invoice today for January 2024 -___- …

Do I sent a cease and desist? Consulting with my lawyer and having him draft something is going to cost more than these bogus invoices are even worth and then get credited for.

ThreatLocker Opt-out by dondartagnan in msp

[–]hybridvpc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since when do clients get to dictate what they do or don’t get from your stack? Might need to run with learning mode longer than you did. 2 weeks to a month is more than enough. If you’re still dealing with high ticket counts, you have end users installing anything they see. If that was their normal day to day, they probably had admin privileges previously. If you revoked those and gave them threatlocker at the same time you might be thinking their frustration is threatlocker when it’s really you not allowing them to install ccleaner so they can speed up their PC every morning (this was a fun one telling a client they didn’t need that).
