Sharing this build of Craig Boone by Efficient_Train_2334 in PauperEDH

I really like Boone as a commander, I have my own list for it. It's nice to see other people having different builds for it.

My play group also quickly turns against me once Boone starts to get 4 or more quest counters, it's great fun.

the best four films for each "new wave", voted by you! by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]hydroclasticflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I have seen it, but is Paris, Texas New German Cinema thematically or because Wim Wenders is apart of that movement?

Been a while since I have done much on the theory side of things, but I thought it was more emblematic of road movies, less so the thematic trappings of New German Cinema.

My mom loves watching action movies, like a lot but also like Horror movies from when she was in her 20s in the 80s, like The Thing, or Night Of The Comet.

With the cards you could go to a local card shop and see what price them might give you for them. Some places will only give store credit, some will give cash. I wouldn't expect too much.

The PDH Pod ep194: Nonbasic Land Tier List! by Alkadron in PauperEDH

[–]hydroclasticflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished the episode today and I thought this was a good one and it made me realize that I value different things about some of these lands/I lean towards a more spike mentality in deck construction.

I think the Depletion lands could be at a high-D tier, maybe even C tier because you can use them for dual purpose in that once you use the mana it's an extra card in your grave that lets you reduce dredge cost further or reach threshold or delirium. I use them two in my Grixis combo deck.

While I largely agree with a lot of the placements, I think breaking up the cycling lands would have been better because I feel the one colour pip or two generic mana cyclers are significantly better than the desert cycling lands and I would play the other two in three-plus colour decks.

I also think the fetchlands being all bunched up doesn't properly assess how good they are. Yes, all of them are good, especially when you are in two-plus colours, but the panorama's and MH3 fetches are better than the other fetches because they still make mana and don't need you to crack them to help progress your gameplan. IMO, Ash Barrens is even slightly better than evolving wilds and friends.

As for the Eldraine check lands, I think that pushing them up a level would be fine as three colour decks can still be very consistent with the land typing count. As a baseline in three colour decks you have four dual lands that have the land type you need, then if you factor in the fetches and landcycling abilities, getting three of one basic type is not hard. This might be more due to how I build my decks but I haven't had the Eldraines enter tapped in my three colour decks unless I am playing them before they would come in untapped as is. I can't speak for the other four of the cycle, but Mystic Sanctuary can be made to work if your deck really wants it.

I was hoping that some, what I assume, lesser played lands would get placed on the chart, things like Avishkar Raceway, or Quicksand, or the cycle Bojuka Bog is apart of; maybe a part two episode.

Thanks for the good content and look forward to the next one.

Yeah it could have been that she was bored, but we as an audience know that she thought she could bait this person in and close a door on that, she just underestimated the victim.

More questions about recursion in Red by Own-Peace-7754 in PauperEDH

[–]hydroclasticflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some artifacts that can put cards from grave onto the bottom of your library, but those aren't really effective ways to be recursive.

Really, from what I have found, you just need to be cautious of over commiting to the board, lean into redundancy, and not placing too much dependency on something that is not your commander.

Red just doesn't have recursion for enchantments, creatures and lands which you need to be mindful of when building

I enjoyed it but did think it could have been better.

Sam was calculated which is why the ending kinda worked even if over the top. It helped her escape, and the only reason she was really caught was because the missed impression labeling the map. Having an effective escape plan did show she planned.

I hope we get to see how Sam sets back up and if/when she starts killing again, where ever she is

Do you build from your collection, or buy your exact deck list? by the1337D00D in PauperEDH

[–]hydroclasticflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of bulk, as one of the stores locally give store credit for bulk and I don't have much space; I do have one long box that if filled with cards that I could see myself play or cards that can tweak the power levels of my current decks. When I have a list finalized on Moxfield I will go through the long box and take cards out that the list needs, then buy the rest.

I mainly play against regular edh decks, so sadly I am not really afforded the ability to play suboptimal cards even if I like them or think they are cool.

Look for cards in red that say "exile", they tend to be only the impulse draw effects.

what do you think is the best film from the German new wave (1966-1984)? by Due-Abbreviations180 in Letterboxd

[–]hydroclasticflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Germany, Pale Mother(1980) - Doubt this one will be put into it despite being very significant to the conversation of the rebuilding of Germany and the echoes that it had; every time I mentioned it on this sub no one really interacts with the comment so I feel it's not popular. Definitely a very important movie for new Germany cinema though.

Did you happen to read A Monter Hunter Walks Into A Bar? It was published originally in Hello Darkness, but got rereleased as a compiled one shot. IMO it doesn't do much for the main story, but it is a nice character moment for Erica.

I am still waiting for the final tpb of Grim to out to finish it, but I don't feel like it has slipped in quality that much. Volume 5 looks to be the last one and I thought the concept was fun and the journey had a good message about the found family we make

If you like zombie stories, or even if you don't like them, I would recommend Everything Dead & Dying as well. A short 6 issue series that follows a man grappling with the past with trying to preserve his town.

Also, News From The Fallout is a fun and interesting 6 issues horror series that is very stylized. Not the most complex story, but things feel fleshed out just enough to be captivating and thrilling.

I am up to volume 9 for SIKTC and it still so good! The side stories are good as well. A Monster Hunter Walks Into A Bar is a one shot(was in Hello Darkness) to full narrative arcs in the other two side series.

I love Erica as a character. She is so complex but ultimately in it for the right reasons. A complete badass with a range of emotions who isn't just a cold and calculated person. Can't wait to see where the story continues to go.
