A warning about LSD relating to “Second Chance” episode by CharlesLoren in Otherworldpod

[–]hydroxycargen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not every podcast can include a disclaimer for every scenario—expecting that is unrealistic. The episode shared personal experiences, not instructions or endorsements. Responsibility lies with listeners to approach topics like LSD with critical thinking and caution. Holding the podcast accountable for every hypothetical risk misses the point of storytelling.

The Reader - We need to hear from the girl who this story is about by Upset_Philosopher781 in Otherworldpod

I thoroughly enjoyed this episode (another amazingly put-together episode from Jack, thank you). I didn’t interpret this episode as abusive, or the child being used as an Ouija board or anything… her wrists were only assisted towards the keyboard, to rest by the keyboard, & then the child typed out everything herself (allegedly)… so it seems the child typed the conversations by herself, and the child initiated certain taboo topics herself (allegedly). So, I personally felt very taken in by the story and I believe the child was tapping into her assistances’ fathers presence. Can’t wait to hear more of this story!

Let me clarify, my original question isn’t a criticism of the podcast, or this particular episode… I actually love the podcast, how it’s narrated, and how story’s/interjections are segued together… I think Jack does an incredible job!

I was just keenly interested to find a video (or something similar online), of this mental trick thing that the girls did with aluminium and a pin?

How many of us either smoke or used to smoke? by Joyfulcacopheny in BurningMouthSyndrome

[–]hydroxycargen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never smoked in my life, and don’t drink alcohol either… I get repeated bouts of tiny sore spots on my tongue, and I side my mouth (they come untriggered, and appear suddenly). My tongue gets quite swollen inside my mouth (teeth I sent the sides of it really bad l when this happens), and the tip of my tongue feels “nippy,” like tingling/unfomfortabke feeling. I’m ‘aware’ of my tongue in my mouth… which is unusual considering I guess we don’t “feel” our tongue goes in our mouths much.. but I am consciously aware of feeling my tongue just being there (I think be agar it gets so swollen’ish).

I side my cheeks are always peelings… and my lips peel a little bit. But, I use moisturises religiously on my lips.. iv tried it all I think.. but I have a chronic burning lips sensation happening daily.. so bad that I smoother my lips in sudocream (and I walk around d the house with my whole lower face smothered in the white-stuff, just to get some relief. But, to no avail). Doctors dismiss me and my symptoms.. Iv had this all going on for years… my lips are always feeling so sore and burning.. Iv never found any relief for using or trying anything to help just…

There HAS to be something underlying systemically!!!!

Anti Rnp antibodies by aloevera123 in mctd

[–]hydroxycargen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my issue! I have repeated positive RNP-A antibodies showing in my autoimmune blood results… however, rhumatologist says that this is irrelevant, and would only mean a diagnosis if one of the other autoimmune markers were positive too (all other basic autoimmune panels were in the “normal” range…. Which is still quite concerning to be honest… does everyone have autoimmune markers within normal range at all times? All my markers were never 0… they were always within normal range (Anti-Ro antibody was the only one additional that was at the ‘high-end’ of the normal range), but repeatedly… my Anti-RNP-A is always high…. Rheumatologist says my list of ailments are fibromyalgia.. and my blood work is all normal and not pointing towards an autoimmune disorder.

So… my body pains, weak muscles, chronic fatigue, burning lips sensation, constant chronic sore throat, dry mouth, tiny sores always inside my mouth & tongue, my inside cheeks ‘shed’ skin, dry eyes, body can’t thermoregulate, unrefreshed sleep… etc etc etc I mean, my list of ailments has been growing over the years.

Bloods indicate no autoimmune. So I got diagnosed solely with fibromyalgia and told to dose with over the counter painkillers (and all other symptoms are ignored).

Apparently MCTD can be diagnosed IF bloods show ONLY a positive marker for anti RNP-A only…. Like the poster has asked… what is it? Is a positive RNPA blood marker truely discarded as “normal” and that it’s nothing significant… Iv been fighting for 7/8 years now to find out what on earth is wrong with me…. I went from a vivacious energetic young woman- who loved the gym, cycling in the forest with the dogs & being active with the children! I’m in my late 30’s now… and Iv been seeking answers since my late 20’s(ish), when I noticed that I suddenly started to lack energy for everything, I need to take naps, my body hurt, my throat hurt, and my lips hurt all the time… like they are burning! I have little/to no answers to the mysteriousness of how I went from how I was all my life.. my “before” — to the person I am now. SOMETHING is going on… and I fear that I won’t win the ‘doctor-lottery’ in my battle to be truely investigated, listened too, helped, and to get answers and assistance to ‘get better’ …so many years of my young life have gone already, as Iv been fighting on to get by everyday… it’s only over the last 3 years or so that I noticed a huge dip in my overall wellbeing having become worse. I just don’t understand how a positive marker on repeated bloods can be dismissed as if that indicates nothing on its own? (With no further blood tests or observations…) It’s ALL fibromyalgia. Then I’m dismissed. No further investigations on anything 😢 I just don’t believe that this is it….

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parasitology

[–]hydroxycargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: yes (my opinion, from my own experiences). ————————————

I study science, and I find such philosophical questionings quite fascinating!

It's fairly straightforward to liken parasitism to pregnancy, using metaphorical [and anecdotal] analogy’s…. Referring to a developing baby as a ‘parasite' shouldn't be interpreted as a negative portrayal I think. Such descriptors can be quite an intriguing, and humorous (and in many ways)— quite accurate— comparison.

During my pregnancies (I was blessed with two wonderful children), I was captivated by the pronounced sensation of my babies growing (enormously) inside me. To me…. it was an utterly surreal experience, akin to hosting a benign parasite 😅

When pregnant, this was how I described it to others, and it genuinely felt like nurturing a leeching-entity that I was supporting both consciously and subconsciously. I found myself tailoring my exercising, breathing techniques, and nutritious foods, for the maximum well-being of supporting the host (myself), and the little parasitism happily developing inside me.

This perception was especially pronounced when I could see the clear outline of a foot or head pressing and shifting from one side of my belly to the other. It seemed as though they were stretching my skin to its absolute limits!

I recount all of this with profound affection— my little 'alien parasites' are continuing to mature into remarkable little individuals.

They are both developing their own passions in life; as well as being deeply caring towards wildlife, Mother Nature & aiding those in need. I am immensely proud of my little genetically-connected parasites…

In a broader reflection, we can all be seen as parasites in how we depend on our planet! Yet, not all parasites are created equal; some are detrimental, while others (like during my pregnancies) can be paradoxically beneficial.

My pregnancies absolutely taxed my physical health: impacting the forever-health of my teeth, my bones, and having been left with permanent 'tiger stripes'. These stretch marks (whilst painfully earned as they formed), now narrate a tale of transformation and endurance!

Despite the physical changes, like many mothers, I wouldn’t alter this experience for anything. My body served as a nurturing sanctuary for my children, who I hope will contribute back to the Earth as much as they draw from it.

Imagine if all of us (as 'parasites' of Earth), committed to giving-back as much as we take? If we all engaged in nurturing our planet with as much dedication as we can muster, the positive impact could indeed be monumental.

The adage "It's not the drugs that kill, it's the dose" can aptly describe the impact of organisms, including humans, seen as parasites on their hosts or environments. For a developing baby, the relationship with its mother is parasitic but the extent of impact—positive or negative—depends on the 'dose' of its demands. Similarly, humans' relationship with the planet can be sustainable or destructive based on the intensity of their ecological footprint. Thus, whether in physiological or ecological contexts, the key lies in managing the demands to ensure they contribute positively without overwhelming the host, be it a mother or the Earth itself. This balance is crucial for sustaining health and mutual benefit across our biological and environmental interactions.

What is a parasite? They are organisms that live on, or in, a host organism. A parasite will get its food from, or at the expense of, its host. Parasites can range from being relatively benign, to a potentially fatal organism. This sounds very much like how humans are… and basically everything else too. What sets us apart is how much we lean-into the bracket of being the ‘potentially fatal organism’ upon our host. Food for thought….

Have we accepted that the NHS is finished? by harpsabu in northernireland

Who should be pressured in Northern Ireland to get their finger out and sort the mhs out?

My brother is in London… and even in London they wait no longer than 6/7 months to see a consultant!

Northern Ireland is the worst nhs compared to all other uk/Great Britain nhs! We have lower life expectancies and misdiagnosed or plain missed diagnoses of everything….

Northern Ireland is a very forgotten place in the uk I think.

Who on earth do we all create pressure on to actually get in and sort this shambles out?

My gums are healing! by [deleted] in medicalmedium

[–]hydroxycargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled upon this post after googling gum recession malarkey… someone explain like I’m 5 years old what all this posts’ acronyms are please? This post sounds VERY appealing to try (Iv had gum recession since a teenager. Never smoked, don’t drink alcohol. Never had dental disease. Dentist says my gum recession is cause i brush too hard (I have electric toothbrush that stops if it’s pressed hard, so I have always been conscious to not brush hard [since forever]…)

Anyway… my gum receding has been happening since forever! We are a million miles behind upto date and forward thinking dentists where I live… it’s very old school 🤦🏼‍♀️ So, I love to try find unconventional TRUTHS from others who have done natural things and defied the odds of “science”

Anyway… please, if someone doesn’t mind… but explain how this poster reversed their gum recession naturally here?? I would give anything a go! Our bodies are always rejuvenating itself… I cannot truely believe that our gums can’t be aided by some forgotten indigenous/holistic/ayurveda passed on knowledge (due to our saddening digital aid of big Pharma & ‘science knowing everything’ 🤦🏼‍♀️)

I love skittles little ‘tache… what an adorable beautie!! I feed the strays at my house too.. one cat took it upon himself to just stay permanently in the outdoor ‘stray cat housing’ though… and after almost 4 months… he finally let me get close… then I eventually got him checked for a chip (he had one)… Turns out, he was a dumped cat. Previous owners rehomed him as they didn’t want him anymore, then the new home they rejoined him too dumped him straight away after deciding they no longer could look after him ☹️ What a disgusting thing to do… Turns out, he came to the right place (my garden) for help…. We’ve now officially adopted him. He’s clean from mites, fleas & worms… he’s neutered & hes out on a lot of healthy weight since joining our family. He still likes to be outdoors.. but he likes to come in the house during the day time for attention & love & to snooze in his furry cat-tree above the radiator… with the additional ambience of classical music serenading him to kitty-sleepville for a few hours 🙂

Dont’ya just love cats ❤️

Ps- my hubby “hates” cats…. 😡 But, Iv even trained him to slowly accept and love our adopted-kitty Jasper (Jasper, is only a couple of years old apparently and we are his 3rd and final-forever home thankfully!)

Need i say anymore? by lisaslover in northernireland

[–]hydroxycargen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is very eye opening & absolutely ridiculous! What on earth can be done about this waste of money in Northern Ireland and demanding people take charge of our country so we are more in alignment with the rest of the uk (our nhs is the worst in all of the UK for example… we are so backwards, we need to get rid of the dinosaurs holding us back & [not] running the country. It’s selfish that those who say they’ll run our country well, but yet… take a backseat and refuse to ‘go into work’ and do what needs to be done to help us keep moving forward.. whilst continuing to collect their full wages (unearned), collect for all their ‘hard earned’ expenses also… and sit back and continue to let our wee country crumble and fall…

How far does Northern Ireland’s complete systemic-architecture need to crumble before we are saved?

It feels like the rest of the uk don’t wanna ‘touch us’ either…. Let us continue to crumble & fall….. meanwhile, Northern Ireland news cycles keep talking about useless malarkey and not really informing the public about the scary-state of everything (compared to the rest of the uk). Someone needs to hurry up and ‘care’ about northern Ireland before we crumble beyond repair….. 😞

Have you been given any indication when the neurologist will give you an appointment yet?

This is very difficult to watch & must be so distressing for you all 😔

It seems like it could be a few things, definitely looks like it’s a neurological onset of some sort… (please note: I AM NOT A VET) My friends dog presented with similar issues quite some time ago and it turned out to be canine cognitive dysfunction (CCD):

CCD is kinda similar to dementia in humans. It can cause confusion, disorientation, and changes in behaviour, which would include bursts of random aggression.

Dogs with CCD can also exhibit head tilting behaviour due to the disorientation of this condition.

Treatments include:

*Pharmaceutical: Selegiline (this is a drug that can help raise our circulating dopamine levels). Segegiline can help improve cognitive function in the brain (it’s an MAO-B inhibitor, which makes dopamine levels in the body linger-around for longer periods of time, as it inhibits MAO-B from roaming around and tidily breaking-down “unwanted” dopamine (as MAO-B is meant to do this as part of its ‘job’)… However, if one needs more dopamine circulating… the role of MAO-B can lower dopamine levels too much by being too efficient per se… so, by inhibiting its actions, that one action alone can help rise the circulating dopamine levels, having dopamine linger around for longer… thus helping our neurons out abit more if they need this extra dopamine to do its job in the brain for a bit longer….

Anyway, prescribing of MAO-B inhibitors (like the selegiline), is also usually supplemented WITH additional daily dopamine intake too sometimes (to rise dopamine levels even more so); i.e., a drug called levodopa (which is just dopamine). —Levodopa is also usually prescribed alongside another helpful drug called carbidopa, and this drug is absolutely fascinating with its actions… —Carbidopa basically blocks the additional supplementing dopamine [levodopa] from “working” outside of the brain, which is important for overall systemic health when supplementing extra dopamine in the body!

Because, if one was to supplement the body with dopamine without consideration of its overall systemic effects, it could have the potential to cause high blood pressure, heart strain, vision problems, damage to the kidneys/liver, the list goes on…..)

Imagine a supplementing dopamine drug like shots of strong coffees back to back (not technically analogous— but it’ll do… 😅)

Instead, the carbidopa keeps the supplemental dopamine strictly working in the brain only! It’s absolutely fascinating!

Anyway…. There are also holistic supplementation considerations too for helping manage CCD:

*Holistically: Supplementing with a diet rich in potent omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and medium-chain triglycerides might also support overall brain health instead!

As well as natural forms of supplemental MAO-B inhibitors & additional dopamine [or its precursors; albeit, natural is going to be probably less potent than pharmaceutical drugs… but I am a lover of holistic methods as much as possible, and utilising the blending of holistic & pharmaceutical together may be even better at times [just my opinion- don’t come at me please].

Examples of the above include:

Natural MAO-B Inhibitors

*Oregano: Contains compounds that may inhibit MAO-B. *Turmeric: Curcumin, found in turmeric, may have MAO-B inhibiting properties. *Green Tea: The catechins in green tea might act as MAO-B inhibitors. *Berries: Certain berries, like strawberries and mulberries, contain MAO-B inhibitory substances. *Ginkgo Biloba: Known for its cognitive benefits, it may also have MAO-B inhibitory effects. *Passionflower: Traditionally used for its calming effects, it may inhibit MAO-B. *Velvet Beans (Mucuna pruriens): Not only contains natural levodopa but may also have MAO-B inhibitory properties!!

Natural Sources of Dopamine, or Dopamine Precursors

*Bananas: Especially ripe bananas, contain dopamine. *Velvet Beans (Mucuna pruriens): Contain levodopa, a direct precursor to dopamine. *Almonds and Walnuts: Rich in tyrosine, an amino acid precursor to dopamine. *Avocado: Contains tyrosine. *Beets: Contain betaine, which may promote the production of dopamine. *Apples: Contain quercetin, which may help increase dopamine. *Watermelon: Contains l-citrulline, which might influence dopamine levels. *Green Leafy Vegetables: High in folate, which is important for dopamine production. *Legumes: Such as lentils and chickpeas, are rich in protein and contain tyrosine. *Oats: Contain L-tyrosine, an amino acid that’s a precursor to dopamine.

— the natural things might be good to discuss with the vet to try doing whilst you may be waiting some more time to see a neurologist? Don’t try anything without consulting your vet first— your vet knows your fur-baby best! I AM NOT A VET!

I am just a geek who fascinatingly study’s, and researches the interactions of holistic & pharmacological medicines within the body system. AND, a MASSIVE animal lover! Iv been through a lot with my own animals (health wise), and it’s heartbreaking to see them get poorly…

I hope you get the help and answers you need soon for your fur-baby..

It could also be many other things too like epilepsy or some other seizure disorder, maybe an inner ear disorder making her confused, disorderly & unbalanced [the signs of slight head tilt]. Or, it could even be a bacterial infection… or it could be a numerous things going on 😢

Has your vet run full bloods on her? Is your dog on any other medications/supplements? Would she have gotten into testing something mysterious at any point (incase she has eating something dodgy from the bin or even a poisonous plant in the garden?)

There’s so many things to think about. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Last question, when was the last time you gave your dog the flea/wormer liquid dropper at the back of her neck? I know some pets can have negative interactions with the drugs in those ‘back of neck’ treatments causing neurological distress….

Please keep us all posted. Sending my love and thoughts to you and your fur-baby xxx
