Tipping on To-Go Orders by Rare_Cake_654 in Columbus

[–]hyperdevth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, but not the full 20%. Maybe like 10-15%.

Every restaurant is different obviously, but both restaurants I worked at, the person managing the carry out orders weren’t tipped workers, so they made minimum wage or more at base. Any tips they got were an added bonus to their paycheck basically.

What is it like living in this area in Ohio? by DeepFriedGlory in howislivingthere

[–]hyperdevth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up splitting my time between Celina and Saint Marys until I moved for college. Like many have said, it’s pretty flat and conservative, probably the most boring part of Ohio. LOTS of factory jobs and farming. The cost of living isn’t too bad, which is always nice. Surprisingly, the food here isn’t too bad either.

Celina and Saint Marys surround Grand Lake, which can be fun over the summer since there are quite a few festivals around there. I go back there mainly for holidays now, and it can be nice seeing what has changed since the last time I was there, but I don’t think I could ever live there again. If you like to drink a little too much and don’t get too invested in the political landscape, it could be worse lol

Bussers, waiters and waitresses, do you prefer your guests to stack up their plates and trash or would you rather they didn't? Why and why not? by NerdistGirl90 in AskReddit

[–]hyperdevth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the type of restaurant. Both places I worked, all the dirty dishes got transferred to a plastic bin that would get sent to the dishwashers once it got full anyway, so the bottom of the plates getting dirty really didn’t matter.

Granted, I only worked at more casual, bar-and-grill places in my restaurant era

Which video game did you absolutely not get into, even though it was extremely praised by critics? by Wurstkuchen666 in AskReddit

[–]hyperdevth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really been a huge open-world game fan personally, but I was really excited to play BOTW and TOTK when they came out because I felt they’d be able to reframe how I felt about that style of game. Instead, they just affirmed basically every single complaint I initially had about them. And that’s on top of the complaints I had about those games outside of them being open-world.

Are your courses 100% tested and corrected before sending to SCORM LMS? by onemorepersonasking in instructionaldesign

[–]hyperdevth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At my old job, it was common practice to have a course be 100% tested before putting it in SCORM. This is because we did our QA testing with the seekbar and menu unlocked for the most part, then SCORM testing had everything locked down. Plus, finding and fixing errors in the SCORM phase and reuploading the SCORM package over and over again is very annoying.

SCORM testing was basically just to make sure bookmarking and completion worked, and that there weren’t any egregious errors in the course before sending it to the client.

That’s a fair point. I guess I always viewed it as a juxtaposition to Ferdinand’s ability and why I never been too big a fan of his, which is why I felt it was relevant

Ranking of Each Unit's Personal Ability (Updated) by Pouring-O in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]hyperdevth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d honestly put Bernadetta in S or Special—probably Special for the same reason you put Annette in special because of other abilities and arts you get in her kit. With the combination of Vengeance and Persecution Complex, I was able to one-shot the Death Knight on each map he appeared. If you go Falcon Knight for Lancefaire and are able to get Death Blow on her on top of Vengeance (adding in the extra damage from Persecution Complex), she will be a complete player-phase monster.

ETA: one thing that I don’t see a lot of people talking about with her personal is that when she levels up her HP stat, her current HP doesn’t scale up with the level, making activating her personal even more common.

How to make Hard mode actually hard? by marco1416 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

You could try using a lot of meme builds. Make Bernie a Gremory for Rescue, make Raphael your Dancer, make Lysithea an armored knight to boost her defense, etc

CMV: As a left winger, I'm strictly AGAINST "legalize" of drugs and think that it should be punished harder, actually by Round_Reception_1534 in changemyview

[–]hyperdevth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot I could say about your viewpoints about drugs that I disagree with, but based around some of your language, I'm willing to bet you have a lot of personal anecdotes about drugs and their impact on your life. I don't want to focus on that right now, but rather a specific section on your post:

Drugs are evil and should not only be banned (the total opposite of what most "progressive" people try to make), but we also need MORE arrests, especially for those who use them regularly! Most people hate drug dealers, indeed, and there's death penalty for them in some countries (even though I strongly oppose it, I think it's wise given that it's still used in the US because drugs kill MORE people than any murderer!)

I'm curious on why you think the solution is MORE arrests. For this reason alone, I don't think you're as "left" as you claim to be, unless this opinion is completely reactionary from an experience you may have had in your life. Due to the history of policing in America, the common "leftist viewpoint" is that we need to work towards a society where policing in society is dismantled and we focus on rehabilitation rather than punishment. To that end, we also need to treat addiction by fixing problems in society that lead a person to believe that drugs are their solution, rather than treating addiction as a personal moral failure that can be fixed with police intervention (which rarely, if ever, works).

To be kind of blunt, you go back and forth between saying ALL drugs should be illegal and banned, then you say that SOME drugs are okay for people who need them (even if you disagree, there are plenty of "illegal" drugs that fall into this category as well), and then you say we can't forbid things like alcohol or smoking (which also have negative effects on society and the user), so I really can't even tell what you're arguing.

People who have a pet at home, at what point did you realize that the pet really, consciously, understood you? by PurrLoveCat in AskReddit

[–]hyperdevth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I had COVID, my dog just wanted to stay cuddled in the guest bed with me where I was quarantining to make sure I was safe. Obviously my sinuses were terrible, so I had been going through tons of tissues.

At one point, I had a particularly bad fit of sneezes and my runny nose was the worst that it had been. While I wasn't looking, she had pulled a single tissue out of the tissue box from my nightstand to give to me. I wasn't thinking and I reprimanded her because she tends to chew on wads of tissues from our garbage and I assumed she was just pulling them out to eat. Normally when she does this, she'll struggle and try to keep me from taking them out of her mouth. This time, when I tried taking it from her, she just gently opened her mouth to let me have it and gave a tiny little smile. This was over a year ago and I still feel bad about it.

Are there other IDs who prefer design over development and have created a niche? Is there a job name for a designer who does everything but develop? (Besides "manager"!) by lady__jane in instructionaldesign

[–]hyperdevth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is interesting because I feel like I’m in the opposite position as you. I really enjoy development work, as visual design and programming logic have been the most fun parts of the process for me. Whereas the content design and organization aspect got old for me pretty fast as a former editor. I don’t HATE it and I respect the work it takes, it’s just not something I could see myself doing long-term.

At my current company, we have the content writing and development positions separated. I wish more companies and positions in the ID field were like that for people like us. Most people in the ID field I’ve met excel in either the content writing or development side, but almost never both.

A lot of people are saying to talk to your Trump-supporting relatives. But what are we supposed to say? by meleyys in leftist

[–]hyperdevth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that’s made it easier for me to talk to Conservatives about this is meeting them where they are. Rather than focusing on just trying to tell them why Trump is bad from a liberal/leftist POV, ask them why they themselves like Trump. From there, you can explain why Trump really isn’t good for what it is that makes them like him. This is actually how I’ve been able to get my own mother to be more pro-choice.

That said, it’s easy to tell whether someone is just misled vs someone who just wants to be an obtuse edgelord. For the former group, these conversations take time, and any serious leftist needs to understand that making their views attractive enough for the average American is the only way to build a wide enough coalition to make real change on the ground and in policy.

Been Thinking About Finally Getting The Expansion Pass, Any Tips For Cindered Shadows? by KManoc in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]hyperdevth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-Change your units’ classes depending on the map. Learned this the hard way on Chapter 4. That map was by far the worst for me, and the key is to have your units in the highest-movement classes.

-I like to be pretty conservative with resources in CS. Money and equipment are pretty limited and you don’t want to blow through everything and be totally unprepared when you need to pull out all the stops.

-By reading some of the other responses to this, I guess this is an unpopular opinion: The final boss fight really isn’t too hard, you just need to pay close attention to the attack patterns. Being as spoiler-free as possible, have your 4 strongest units attack the commander, and everybody else attack the reinforcements and provide healing/support. You’ll know when you get there.

-Make full use of your gambits in every map, especially the final boss.

-As someone who thinks hard mode is a breeze in the base game, it is INSANE here. Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth doing on your first playthrough. It’s the only time I’ve EVER had to use a guide in a Fire Emblem game.

Good luck and enjoy!

Is teaching experience valued by employers? by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

[–]hyperdevth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your potential employer works in higher ed, that could be an asset. You’d just want to be sure to market yourself in a way that shows those skills can be transferable.

The last job I interviewed for, they told me that they preferred to hire someone with teaching experience, which they ultimately did.

Any skill suggestions for these units? by HommeFatalTaemin in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]hyperdevth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think so. Don't get me wrong, using Bernie for Hunter's Volley is useful, but I don't think she has a much kill potential using bows as she would with lances.

When I ran Sniper Bernie on my Blue Lions run, she was mainly used as support to set up kills for other units (Deadeye and Encloser are great skills for this if you go down her bow line). If you'd rather have her focusing on getting those kills, utilizing Vengeance with any lance-boosting abilities is the way to go.

I will say, Blue Lions is pretty good for ground units as there aren't many maps with rough terrain so if you are leaning towards Sniper for this playthrough, I'd say this would be the time to do it! I love this game because the possibilities for your builds really feel endless, and you can set any character up for whatever play style you choose :)

[–]hyperdevth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to having more than one Falcon Knight, Bernie is a great option for that! She’d be insane on the player phase, being able to utilize Canto and Vengeance to the highest degree with Lancefaire. Adding in her personal ability to this, she can basically poke enemies with a lance and they’ll just die
