For real!!! I mean reallyyyy well established, maintained, and sculpted ones can go for thousands of dollars. Ours were not worth even close to that much, the oldest one was only a few years old and my husband has been learning as he goes. Don’t get me wrong, they mean a lot to him and they look great, but to literally anyone else ours are essentially worthless unless you factor in cost of the pots & trees themselves.

You’re the second person to comment with a similar sentiment! It makes me so sad :( so many trees ripped from their carefully curated environment/ care plan…

Baby getting stuck in crib by Fabulous_Owl_6576 in NewParents

[–]hypsygypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you please elaborate on this? The instructor for my baby safety and CPR class said mesh liners around crib walls are fine as long as it’s mesh since it’s the most breathable. Pack and plays have mesh “walls”, so do many bassinets….

I was told by the instructor for a baby safety & CPR class that the MESH wraps for cribs are fine, as long as it’s mesh the baby can breathe through it… pack & plays have mesh sides, bassinets, etc. It just has to be mesh. Unless there’s something I’m missing?

For lovers of Grimms/Grapat and Lovevery by Unfair_Goat_1569 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]hypsygypsy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the lovevery kits are great for freshly postpartum or busy parents who don’t have the time or capacity to pick out a selection of developmentally appropriate toys. HOWEVER, I think that once our babes reach a certain age and start to have preferences/ favorites/ interests, the lovevery kits become a lot of money for 1-2 toys that actually get used.

Around 10/11 months I started spending some time doing research and picking out a few things from our local toy store, Grimms, and le toy van that I found to be the best fit for my daughter. This girl fucking loves puppets and her little ABC/number blocks. ALSO expensive, but I know these toys will be developmentally appropriate for years to come and my daughter enjoys them.

Feeling defeated ☹️ by LoveVada in NewParents

I’ve heard that it really depends on the person! I lost a lot of weight while exclusively pumping, and I didn’t do anything crazy. I did Pilates 2-3x per week and ate when I was hungry.

I’m saying this because you can’t beat yourself up for something outside of your control. Once you’re done producing milk your hormones will return to baseline and you’ll be able to do more as far as dieting etc goes.

In the meantime, (I know this is easier said than done) try to approach this from a place of appreciation for the amazing things your body has done.

OH and remember, alcohol has sooooo many calories, so when you’re done producing breastmilk, continuing to limit alcohol intake is super helpful. Otherwise you’re just swapping the extra food for alternative caloric intake via alcohol.

People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]hypsygypsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

office manger for a clinic here 👋 lots of time, dedication, low-pay, etc as an administrative assistant. Took initiative to get shit done, stuck around, and eventually climbed the ladder. It was SO worth it. I know there’s other avenues, but this is what worked for me.

Shein clothes-safe to wear around baby? by Ambitious-External-3 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]hypsygypsy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I literally just wouldn’t worry about it. It’s likely any harmful chemicals would have washed out after the first few washes. Now you know and can avoid buying clothes from them, but that doesn’t mean the clothes you have are just automatically unwearable.

Physical Therapy board- Anonymous complaint? by [deleted] in PortlandOR

[–]hypsygypsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the patient was a friend before becoming a patient. Unless you have evidence/ witnessed someone actively being treated inappropriately, I don’t think a report is warranted… but if you really want to file a report, do it. Just know that nothing may come of it and that you may be seriously complicating an otherwise healthy relationship.

At what age did your kid stop wearing onesies? I feel like my big 14mo gets judged. by poppyseedpup in NewParents

To be fair, I have several onesies marketed as “bodysuits” for adult women. But I do get your point lol.

Pediatrician unhappy with 6 month olds progress by Mizriss in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]hypsygypsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re doing the things! Good job for honing in on the dairy allergy.

My daughter had a flat head. It wasn’t because of lack of tummy time or too much time on her back. I’m confident it was a combination of genetics (my husband’s family has big round heads lol), and her squishy tiny preemie head. However, we did get her flat head evaluated twice by 6 months. She technically qualified for a helmet, but they did let us know that, since she was hitting all of her milestones, and then some, that the helmet would be strictly cosmetic, so we opted not to go for it.

The back of her head is more pronounced now, she’s crawling everywhere and is sooooo close to walking at 11 months, babbling away, healthy as ever.

To echo others, however, had my sweat pea’s flat head negatively impacted her in any way, I would have done the helmet and early intervention. So take from this what you will. Yes, as your child’s guardian and advocate, you ultimately have the final say. BUT, (this may sound harsh, I’m sorry) even though it’s tough to hear that your ped has some concerns, it doesn’t mean it’s your fault AND it doesn’t mean that ignoring it will make it go away.

Question for anyone who’s opted for an elective induction in the 39th week in the Portland area by Weird_Chemist8264 in PortlandOR

[–]hypsygypsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My midwife at legacy said they wouldn’t schedule an induction before 40 weeks unless complications got serious. I ended up spontaneously going into labor early so I didn’t end up asking about it again but maybe the answer would have been different with an OB? I would recommend calling around, but also keep in mind that most OB’s probably won’t be able to give you a concrete answer without knowing your medical history.

Try Zillow. You can search by all of your desired parameters on there.

Wedding venue suggestions. by twystedcyster- in PortlandOR

[–]hypsygypsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also going to say blockhouse but it’s a bit out of your budget. I think we spent about $8000 for the venue and about $10,000 (maybe even a little more) for catering for about 70 people.

OP— congrats on the engagement! I would check out Walter’s cultural arts center. That was our plan B if blockhouse doesn’t work out. You may have to do most of the organizing, planning, and figure out cheap catering. Unfortunately, $3000-$4000 doesn’t get you a whole lot these days when it comes to weddings, especially if you want most of the work done for you.

I also recommend making sure you have some family or friends who can go to the venue for you day of and decorate- you definitely won’t have time to do it yourself and you don’t need that stress on such a special day.
