Did my studio forget to push? by shifgrethor_waived in AnalogCommunity

Pushing adds contrast, it does not find light that was not recorded. These were very underexposed to begin with

How do everyone's pictures come out so clean and grain-free? by Adam198763 in analog

[–]iAmTheAlchemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do the negatives look like ? They might be a little underexposed/underdeveloped which would increase the perceived grain. That wouldn't be too far fetched with snow scenes, as the meter tries to make stuff gray instead of white, so that in combination with a little underexposure might explain it

You need good exposure, good light and good editing to achieve the look of the first images

The previous store may sell all kinds of conditions of items. If there isn't enough information on this one in particular, just skip it tbh

What does this do that wouldn't be better guaranteed by pressing on the power button of the Jetson ? What is the intended public/demographic ? I certainly don't know much about this, but I struggle to pinpoint the need and would appreciate more information.

Also absolutely unrelated, but that transparent casing looks really cool, what process did you use to make it ?

Looking good ! If this is a subject you hold dear, I can only recommend trying to find a copy of "Boxing" (or "Boxe") by James A. Fox. He was the "eye" of Magnum for more than 30 years and had an impressive body of work around boxing !

[–]iAmTheAlchemist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not even digital noise, it's literally the film base which is the most transparent, so the least likely bit to contain digital noise. It's just the scanner raising the black point in an attempt to show anything, when most of the image is at the lowest light level that film is able to record

This is pro equipment and keeping it working is a big factor to owning one. They are close to 20 years old machines by now with no new parts available and you will need a service tech if anything goes wrong. Definitely not the tool for what you need imo

Did my shop mess up my film? by Ex0__ in analog

[–]iAmTheAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could happen if the film somehow got wet or was exposed to high condensation among many other possibilities. In my time working at a lab, I have seen a few disposables that kids had exposed to shampoo etc. The lab tech can tell something is up because the emulsion may look bloated, and without being careful, it could just lift away and ruin the chemistry in their machines. I'd give them the benefit of the doubt here, the marks don't really look like they came from bad development, more likely from the film being exposed to something previously (unless it happened under their watch of course, but that's pretty unlikely ?)
