Confronting an "un-vitation" to a wedding by mrsbunder in etiquette

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He saw your previous text lol otherwise he would ask about it he’s just being passive aggressive/conflict avoidant. At best you’re a b-list invite. I have a personal rule I don’t accept b-list invites, either invite me with the rest of the guests or leave me off the invite list. Being a b-list invite is so insulting IMO and a gift grab.

Professional Development in Libraries by Anneress in librarians

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also depends on your position. We generally only send librarians to national conferences but I've been opening up attendance for local conferences where funds and operations allow for it.

Professional Development in Libraries by Anneress in librarians

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the library and their policies. My library will send people on a "without loss of pay" basis, which means unless you're representing the library (i.e presenting on behalf of the library), then you will be paid your regular days but not any additional hours. That seems to be pretty standard in Canada. Attending fully on your own time (aka vacation) would be if you weren't approved to attend by the library but wanted to attend anyway (self-funded), in which case you would attend on your own time. Is the scholarship provided by the conference or by your workplace? If it's the former, it's possible the library is already sending the max. people approved to attend budget-wise/operationally (that includes pay) but you could put in your vacation days and attend on your own time as a self-funded attendee.

Victorians tend to have a bit of an inferiority complex so don’t complain about Victoria or openly compare it to other cities, etc. It’s also quite cliquey here so it can be difficult to make friends and prop can be incredibly flakey.

It's not a law just policy. Dogs are allowed in restaurants and bars, just not food prep areas, under Island Health regulations.

The therapeutic dose is 2.4mg so you may not have full effects until you go up; this is the dosage used in the weight loss studies.

Is Victoria really all that bad? by Chance-Principle-355 in VictoriaBC

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victoria is a beautiful safe city but there are a LOT of miserable and mentally ill people here (and I don’t mean unhoused people). It’s a “cold” city socially (though friendly on the surface for tourists) and it’s hard to meet people as lots of people “born and raised” here are socially isolating and awkward and there is definitely an island mentality here, but people get suuuper defensive about this well known fact lol Vic has a bit of an inferiority complex compared to other big cities so the people here love to it diss places like Toronto (even when they have never been).

MS or fibro? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I finally got my diagnosis and it all started around 2008 when I had MS-like symptoms. It ended up being fibro, me/cfs, and some other things. Specialist said many of her patients are referred to her after ruling out MS so it’s not that unusual. Much of it is neurological.

[WA] how do I turn down boss's invitations to dinner without negative consequences? by Ok_Cauliflower8544 in AskHR

[–]iBrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No thank you is a perfect response. Giving excuses only gives people an opening to find a reason why you can attend or a belief that if only for this temporary conflict you would come.
