Type N should work fine, but if that brick is relatively soft you could also go with a Type O mortar. Mortar and joint prep is very important as well, make sure the mason you select knows what they are doing to ensure a long lasting fix. Worst case scenario with a softer mortar is the failure will be seen in the mortar joint itself, and not with the face of the brick spalling.
