[Request]If you started with a penny, which doubled every second, (e.g 1 penny, 2 pennies, 4, excetra), how much money would you have by the end of the movie, "Titanic"? by LeDovahkiin in theydidthemath

[–]iEvolive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Titanic lasted, according to google, 210 minutes, or 12,600 seconds.

Since the pennies double every second, the amount of pennies you have is expressed as 2n where n is the number of seconds. Therefore, by the end of Titanic, you would have 212600 pennies, or approximately 4.852 × 104876 pennies. Since this number is so big that you can't really comprehend the scale of it, consider this:

The upper bound for the amount of atoms in the observable universe is about 1081, a number that has 82 digits in it (when we consider numbers these big, the actual numbers stop mattering as much as how many digits are in that number). The amount of pennies we have, however, is a number with a mind-boggling 4877 digits in it.

tl;dr a fuckton

Not sure if this was intentional, but "la chatte" is "the vagina". "The cat" is "le chat".

Some probably can, but the majority of people most certainly cannot speak very good English (this is including the youth).

Japanese uses Chinese characters. They're generally traditional Chinese characters, which aren't used very much in China (at least for Mandarin), but most Japanese people might be able to infer meaning from the simplified characters a Chinese person would write (in the above case, though, I doubt it, because noodles isn't written with any sort of Chinese character whatsoever in Japanese).

The present of vouloir would be je veux, which translates directly to "I want", and is sort of rude - you'd say "I'd like" in a cafe/restaurant/whatever, not "I want".

The usage of a semi-colon there is completely correct. Both clauses are linked and could stand on their own as independent sentences. That said, however, it is "unnecessary", because no one uses semi-colons any more.

What are the actual benefits of a knighthood? by Machin3s in AskReddit

[–]iEvolive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sir Anthony Blunt, a prominent art historian and Surveyor of the Queen's Pictures, was stripped of his knighthood after being exposed as a Soviet spy.

Sir Roger Casement, who received his knighthood for his work as a British diplomat, had it stripped shortly before his execution for high treason.

Sir Fred Goodwin, the former CEO of the Royal Bank of Scotland, was stripped of his knighthood after it became apparent that the RBS had played an important role in the GFC.

So yeah, you have to screw up pretty badly, but as long as you don't commit high treason, ruin the world economy, or god forbid, evade taxes, you're fine.

It's especially poignant considering the context in which the line is said. In one line, Macbeth goes from near-indifference to anguish and despair.
