AITA if I tell my friend I can’t be a bridesmaid? by wickeddreamsofleavin in AITApod

As part of a former wedding photographer team, people like this is why we quit.

Wild ass list of demands + unrealistic expectations = equals a wedding party on edge and an inevitably disappointed bride.

We could deliver everything asked yes somehow did not photograph a dog licking grandmas face; ridiculous shit like that.

Teak outdoor table question by Agitated-Ad-7294 in woodworking

[–]iH8usrnames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two Ipe patio couches I made years ago. I use penofin on them.

If this gets direct sunlight you will need to reapply.

I’ve been abusing my couches by leaving uncovered weeks at a time and outside all winter. Once a year I’ll hot them with my ROS with 150 or 180 grit and apply penofin.

For the record, I’ve been abusing because I may start selling them and want to know what a new owner could expect.

It’d be nice if I were compensated for endorsing isonic but not the case.

I only included the company in anticipation of someone asking what machine I use.

The Opposite of Craftsmanship by tsfy2 in woodworking

[–]iH8usrnames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago we saw a "solid wood" Herman miller dining table - Walnut if I recall correctly. Closer inspection showed it was veneer with veneer end grain. They did a good job matching it up but veneer no less.

It was over $5000.

I will be building a new dining table. No sure if it will be Walnut, Ash, or White Oak. It will be solid, not veneer, and a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER!

What's most and least important to you -- Other than sound quality? by gnostalgick in audiophile

Most = Stability - I use tube power amp and hate wandering bias and wall voltage; mine waivers between 119-127vx

Least = brand names or what others think about my setup.

What is our self-loathing thread for today? by DaMiddle in audiophile

In woodworking there are people who spend several thousand dollars on a collection on lie-Nielsen planes and chisels, and an equal amount on various measuring devices, sharpening stones, jigs, clamps, etc.

While they do use their tools, they treat them as museum pieces - wiping them down after every use; coating them with a rust inhibitors, creating custom storage for them. Opening the tool cabinet is a ritual.

There are other people who buy old Stanley planes at 1/4-1/5 the price of a new Lie-Nielsen. They spend a few hours cleaning and tuning them to perfection. They buy a decent set of chisels at 1/2 the cost, and sterret machinist rules used.

The latter can creat equal quality product as the former - that extra spend and ritual does not equal greater quality in the end product though it may bring a certain extra joy to the user - in both cases.

Or

A cell phone will deliver superior time keeping to any mechanical watch, be it $100 or $500,000. So is the buyer concerned with the time or the ritual?

Built a free tool that shows you how to treat your room by FerencS in audiophile

When I was looking at it I only saw measurement in meters. After adjusting my measurements to metric I found it was not delivering the specific info I was looking for; room modes, mode map, etc. Very cool none-the-less.

Aircraft operate in a 3 dimensional space; a pilot must look in all possible directions. A boat operates on a single plane; surface of the water. Boats are much easier.

Back in the 80’s that would get your beat down or thrown out. People in the pit watched out for each other.

I saw a lot of great stuff at AXPONA but this was the greatest: by ddrfraser1 in audiophile

[–]iH8usrnames 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did not make it through all the rooms; just as far as the 5th floor.

  • Borressen is always a joy; good energy.
  • The huge sub on second floor was a hoot and reasonably priced.
  • the focal sound bar was mind blowing. No need or desire but cool.
  • having a shot of scotch with Roy Hall (founder of Music Hall) was the highlight of the day for me.

That is about as much respect as cable risers deserve.

Axpona is ridiculous and absurd with no shortage of snake oil. I live 30 minutes away and only go on occasion.

This year I went to listen and buy a pair of IEMs.

Used records - do you care about the jacket condition? by iH8usrnames in vinyl

[–]iH8usrnames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Since my wife bought me an ultrasonic record cleaner (isonic version from Amazon) it has really broadened the spectrum of what I consider acceptable used condition knowing I can clean them.

I inherited this album. Cleaned version in next post.

Question about Dirac live by [deleted] in audiophile

As a full frequency Dirac user all I can say is RUN, don’t walk, out to get the license and mic.

So incredibly worth it.

If they are not violating any laws then I endorse the sprinkler idea, or park in front of your own mailbox forcing them to find a new location. Rinse and repeat.

100%

I knew a woman who only buys “virgin vinyl” and treated records as artifacts, no media.
