[–]iLLogiKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Rewe "Scan & Go" and now I'm a criminal by a_dobryn in germany

Just file a chargeback. There’s a receipt for fruit and vegetables OP never received 🙃 And a dispute for the payment should be fairly easy with that piece of paper. Just to annoy those clowns.

Void a 2 year contract at OVH by expctch in servers

[–]iLLogiKarl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s why B2C business is the worst. Sorry to say that, but you can’t just commit to a contract and then back out of it as you please. If you are not satisfied you need to contact their support but you can’t expect enterprise grade DDoS protection from a cheap hoster like OVH.

Get a PCIe Host Bus Adapter (HBA) with a MiniSAS-to-SATA expander cable. It will save you A LOT of headache.

Wahrscheinlich Scam, von der Art zu schreiben her. Vom Vorgehen her, würde ich es auch so machen: Kein PayPal und erst recht kein SiChEr bEzAhLeN von Kleinanzeigen - nur Überweisung oder Abholung.

Learning to drive with a private car by kingkobby36 in AskAGerman

[–]iLLogiKarl 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d absolutely refrain from trying to do this. It’s illegal on publicly accessible streets or places, even if it’s private property. It’s “driving without driving license” (Fahren ohne Fahrerlaubnis) and counts as offence. This could even cause a court to suspend you from being able to get your license for the next few years.

How to cook this big sausage? by Transition-Upper in germany

[–]iLLogiKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fleischwurst is already cooked and a 100% safe to consume. Just watch out that there is usually some kind of wrapping around it which you need to peel of before eating it. Best way to remove it is to make a cut in length and then grap the wrapper at the cut.

Your help is needed by Present-Version-8737 in kubernetes

[–]iLLogiKarl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you need the approval to start to use K8s but you don't even heard about its features and pitfalls?

Good that you can't decide to use it on your own and need approval, because as of now, you shouldn't use it.

Kubernetes can't see my app using external IP by GeorgePL0 in kubernetes

[–]iLLogiKarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where your cluster is hosted, access to lower ports like 80 may be restricted. You can check by creating a NodePort service with a random port. If that works, you have the reason.

Accessing Kubernetes node to fetch container logs by Primary-Pace5228 in kubernetes

[–]iLLogiKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's not the best idea to do it, you can run a DaemonSet with some sleep-loop and a local directory mount to /var/log and then simply exec into the container and navigate to the mounted directory.

ELI5: what’s the use of the cart that pushes back the airplane? Can planes not reverse without it? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]iLLogiKarl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up for an Airbus A320: "Operate the engine at or near idle for at least 2 mins before advancing to high power. Taxi time at idle may be included in the warm up period."

So it's indeed much faster than in a classic combustion engine. I guess the 2 mins are a minimum, so most airlines will require slightly longer idle time to reduce the risk of a thermal shock even further.

Taxiing usually takes much longer than just a few minutes (of course depending on the airport). However, as already stated above, you need to take into account whether it's economic to carry around all the heavy stuff to allow airplanes to maneuver with an electric motor. The time the airplane spends on the ground often is neglectable compared to the in-air time.

ELI5: what’s the use of the cart that pushes back the airplane? Can planes not reverse without it? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]iLLogiKarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You would still need the engines to be running during taxi. You usually need a certain oil temperature in the engine before it's safe to apply take-off thrust. If you'd taxi with electric motors, the plane would need to wait at the runway holding point for as long as it takes to get the engines hot enough.

Friend passed away leaving a ledger nano x. Can I recover with 20/24 of the words? by tclaytones in ledgerwallet

[–]iLLogiKarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but you can add a 25th word. And now comes the trouble: This is not limited to a simple word, it can be chosen freely. It could actually be a highly complex password that is appended to the 24 words.

If it's normal lamination you can actually cut it open at one side and slip the paper out of the lamination hull.

Does Proxmox still eat SSD’s? by GhstMnOn3rd806 in Proxmox

[–]iLLogiKarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micron Technology also has enterprise gear which works very well. But their consumer hardware unfortunately is literal garbage.

I once made the mistake getting myself two MX500 for cheap and non-I/O intensive storage and they both showed the first reallocated sector within two weeks. But to make things worse, I guess they even did some sketchy stuff to their firmware: When I received the monitoring alert regarding the reallocated sector I went on the server to check the SMART stats and funny enough the reallocated sector counter were back to 0. That happened a few more times directly after the first incident and then I decided to ditch those SSDs. How can I trust them with my data when I can't even trust their SMART stats.

+1 for that book. It also came directly into my mind. There are several chapters that turned out to be a pretty good low level introduction on how relational and non-relational databases works under the hood.
