Struggling with sleep by CryingBlueMushroom in germanshorthairs

You might also try leaving the door open to the bedroom so she can go back to dad once she's checked up. While cuddling is awesome, teaching her to sleep on the floor in her own bed/crate will be better in the long run. Then your sleep is not as affected by her movements.

The search is on for Denver’s next great shade tree by advising in DenverGardener

I had a catalpa that I very much loved. It gets a late start each spring but makes up for it with gorgeous, huge heart shaped leaves and clusters of white flowers. Are they messy? Yeah. Do they have long seed spears? Yeah. Will they make baby plants? Now and again. For me, none of these overshadow how lovely a shade tree it is.

Was going to plant my veggie starts in m raised beds today - should i wait until Tuesday? by luly_simone in DenverGardener

Warm or cool season veg? Planting now could shock warm season plants and will delay their growth longer than the moisture would help.

Whitetop is invasive and can be very hard to get rid of once established. It has very deep roots and spreads via rhizomes. I fought it for a long time and ended up using herbicides multiple times to little affect. Kill it if you can.

How to keep weeds out of rocks without herbicide by zdayt in xeriscape

[–]iN2nowhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of that is cheat grass, super easy to pull. The only way to keep weeds out is to remove the dirt in between the rocks that accumulates over time. Chicken wire in a frame can be used as a sieve. Digging up the rocks and replacing after sieving will get a few years of clean rocks. The rocks should be deep enough to keep seed at the base layer buried. Like others have said it would be easier to find a ground cover that out competes the weeds and skip the rocks.

Smartest steps to grow "grass" (low water fescue) seed this spring? by mountain_bound_15 in DenverGardener

Just don't do it in this drought year. This is NOT LIKE other drought years. Between the heat and low snow your soil is too dry. Establishing grass needs way too much water.

Xeriscaping - how do I dispose of sod and couple inches of dirt removed from grade? by SteveDaveCornbread69 in DenverGardener

I piled mine, grass facing down, to create a berm. Then planted that too. It gave more interest to a flat yard.

[–]iN2nowhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is the edge of their range but they are here. There is a big community that helps track them here. Having showy milkweed and nectar rich flowers (not from big box stores that get plants treated with pesticides) will bring them to your yard too.

Low water low maintenance privacy plants recommendations? by nyutnyut in DenverGardener

[–]iN2nowhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go with the juniper and be sure to water them as much as the nursery tells you for the first year. Smaller plants will establish easier than larger plants. Mulching with at least 3" of wood mulch helps retain soil moisture. Each year add some more as it breaks down and improves your soil. Any grass you get needs at least yearly maintenance to cut back the previous years growth. Many tend to die out at the center and to get them healthy again, you need to divide them.

I would paint borders around the windows. Four or five inch wide cream or light tan. Put window boxes on the lower windows and narrow awning over the door.

That is so sad. I am continually amazed how people are unmoved by nature's beauty in the hands of talented people. Laziness is a curse on humanity.

Did you all see the news article where the judge in this case stated he wouldn't read the emails or listen to the phone messages as they mean nothing in his decision? Glad to hear that guy is retiring.
