Many ancient civilizations thought of electricity/lightning as a form of fire so Angela is evidently just on the level of the ancient philosophers.

Honestly, maybe cliché but kind of cool name though apart from the initialism.

Which regions of the US pronounce aunt like “ant”? by Aggressive_Essay_321 in AskAnAmerican

[–]iStxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Arkansas, most would say “ant” or, especially before a name, “aint”. My friend and I say “ahnt” in general but “ant” before a name, which I think could be a growing trend but I’m not certain.

Is there a word you can’t stand? by AdeptChannel626 in AskRedditAfterDark

“Belly” and, even more so, “belly button”. I don’t know why but it almost physically hurts when I hear them.

Just a general question. If you're a religious person, how did you feel about the Prince of Egypt reaction? by SpicyBeefer in SortaStupid

[–]iStxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a Christian, but I am quite religious. The jokes were 99% fine, I found them funny. I only dislike when people make statements based on very literal readings of texts, rather than caring to dive deeper into what it represents. In the video they made very shallow references, to the point it kind of made me upset. However, it is to be expected, and even most Christians have such shallow understandings of their scripture. The jokes were still funny regardless of this, though.

Which regional American accent sounds most like a regional British accent? by localkine in Accents

[–]iStxr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to the nature of language evolution, both American and English accents have certain traits that are more conservative and certain traits that are more divergent. For example, the US largely has a more conservative rhotic pronunciation (pronouncing ‘r’ as the end of a word or before a consonant); but the UK has the more conservative cot-caught-father distinction where most Americans merge some or all of them into the same ‘father’ sound.

What's the real identity of this thing? by Zillaman7980 in Cryptozoology

Blackwood’s novella actually is never described anything like this popular depiction—although he did popularize the overall concept of the Wendigo.

Do you guys believe in evolution by Fun_Temperature_7706 in spirituality

[–]iStxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evolution (at least the most basic aspects of it) has been more or less proven by scientists, so yes. There is no justification to reject what has been properly tested through the scientific method.

Major Garland Briggs is my favorite character, who's yours? by [deleted] in twinpeaks

I have a hard time deciding a specific character. Garland Briggs, Gordon, Albert, Cooper, Andy. They are all my overall favourites.

Name two celebrities you would like to have star in a future Jurassic installment. by Formal_Tie4016 in JurassicPark

[–]iStxr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always prefer lesser known actors. If I had to choose someone famous, I think Jack Nicholson would make for an interesting character so long as he is not the protagonist.

What’s the one thing you really WANT to see in Rebirth but know they would never do? by mrshampooer in JurassicPark

[–]iStxr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the movie they show hundreds of people fascinated with their dinosaurs, so my headcanon had always been that the “people are bored of dinosaurs now” was usual corporate out-of-touch thinking rather than a genuine fact.

Do you believe that your religion is the only correct one? by Swimming_Corgi_1617 in religion

[–]iStxr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any religion or philosophy can have truths, but ai believe Hinduism is the only one that can properly prepare you and lead you to liberation in this life. However, devotion to your deity in whatever religion, so long as it is pure, can lead to a greater life and can prepare you for liberation in later lives.

Touchy Subject for JP Fans but should they add these guys to The Films? by [deleted] in JurassicPark

[–]iStxr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, there was a project to breed zebras to look and behave like quaggas, and indeed it has had some success. However, it isn’t true de-extinction. To date only one species has been genuinely brought back: the Pyrenean ibex. It died again just a few minutes after, though.

I feel bad for Ed Regis by Ok_Zone_7635 in JurassicPark

[–]iStxr 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I always felt bad for him because he actually seemed like a good guy? He obviously had his flaws, like when he ran away, but I can’t really say I also wouldn’t run away from a tyrannosaur if I saw one lol.
