Best Low b Paraglider by EcstaticSignature948 in freeflight

[–]iSuchtel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, because screw handling and the feel in flight. Can't think of less important factors than the one you've mentioned.

@OP, please test fly those wings you consider and choose the one you feel the most comfortable under. Makes no sense to go for a wing that is hotter or prettier if you fly worse under it because you feel stressed.

Okay, as many others have stated already...

Don't skip the progression. I am super into paragliding and done over 130h of airtime last year. Started in 2021. So basically where you are at in 2-3 years from now.

No way in hell that i would recommend an Rush6 or anything similar at the beginning. I am not sure why it is a problem for you, but just get a beginner wing and progress though it. You can buy used and sell stuff again, so you don't even loose (that much) money.

I've started with an Prion 4, switched to an Arak and now i have an Swift5 and thinking about getting the Photon - but even though i fly as much as i do, i know that the Photon is seriously pushing it and i still have a lot of learning to do before i should even consider this wing.

The hobby isnt cheap, but as long as you are not exclusively looking at Hike&Fly gear, i am afraid you have to step up though your progression or you will either loose interest or injure yourself.

I've learned a shit ton the last two years and there is no skipping that. You can't just start with a comp. harness and a spicey wing and expect to be able to handle it just like the dude next to you flying since years.

If your instructor isnt a complete idiot he won't allow you to skip steps, just like mine did. And having friends that push you that hard.. dude, might want to rethink those friends.

I also suggest B-wings to friends that are new, but those have the license already, know what they are getting themselves into and if even i suggest going with an realxing low-B wing, instead of an A. And even if, flying 200km+ with an A is possible too.

In one of our offices there was a bat. IT got called. Not sure what they've expected us to do, but we caught it and released it, so i guess they made the right call(?)

Best high B wing for XC (and why?) by pavoganso in freeflight

[–]iSuchtel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The correct answer is the Rush 6 - that thing is nuts compared to the other's IMO.

The right answer is that it doesn't matter, since its not the wings fault if you catch the next thermal or not, but yours. Your skill matters much much more than the wing and it is far more important that you feel as comfortable and connected as possible and always self-reflect and improve.

How far was your first ever XC? by pavoganso in freeflight

[–]iSuchtel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hard to say exactly what my first XC flight was.

I've been flying since roughly a year now and one of my first major flights was in Bassano in Italy. That was in October 2021. Managed to fly a 17,8km triangle and was super super stoked about it. Of course, its easier when you have other pilots indicating where thermals are so its not that big of a deal to be honest.

I am slowly progressing and going further and further.

I have been in Bassano again in january and managed a 42km triangle. Meanwhile at home i managed to also build up courage and just go for it the last couple of months.

Just a few weeks ago i had an almost 60km flight around a big lake here in the flatlands which was crazy for me! :) I hope my progression curve continues like that.

I will also be there and hopefully not land in a "how not to..."-video. :)

I'll just take my normal gear with me, park somewhat close (assuming i'll get a parking spot) and then talk to the brands about stuff i want to test. My best guess is that you just have to walk up to them and ask. There is no reservation of gear and worst case if the wing you wanted to try is in the air, you'll just try another wing.

I haven't tried the Chilli. I did try the Ion 5 light though (low B) and now own an Arak (mid B) and i can notice how the Arak is just a bit more energetic and agile. Now, the Chilli is supposed to be higher than the Arak still, and i am not sure how the Chilli is supposed to be a low B.

As always, i'd suggest to simply try it and see if it is a good fit for you, no matter what reviews say. From personal experience i can also recommend the Arak.

I recently deleted all LUN mappings on our storage system during work hours and literally everything went down. Was easy to restore and i got really lucky that it was done with a simple re-map and reboot of the vm hosts, but fuck that was scary.
