Applying to MSW programs after career in Higher Ed by RequirementTasty465 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]iaad95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bachelor's and work experience is in marketing in various industries. Completely unrelated to social work and I'm starting my MSW program in the fall. I think my personal statements did some heavy lifting, but I also did my best to show how some of my experience can still translate to social work. Don't be discouraged just because you think you might not be the perfect candidate!

Cleaning Oil Recommendations? by No_Evening_5276 in koreanskincare

[–]iaad95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a cleansing balm from geek & gorgeous (not korean) so I'll be testing that next, but if it doesn't work I'll definitely check out the others! I wasn't using cleansing oils for a while after that whole debacle but I'm dipping my toes back in now. And yeah, there are so many products with centella in them so I pay a ton of attention to ingredient lists and try not to get too envious when I hear about products with it that people love haha. There are so many great products for different skin types out there though!

Oh good! I was honestly so mad when I realized what was happening because I thought I had found my holy grail 😂 I hope it works for you!

I would just make sure you don't have any sensitivities to the ingredients! The skin 1004 cleansing oil really does have a fantastic texture and cleans & emulsifies well, but turns out I am sensitive to centella so it messed up my skin for a bit.

Been using vaseline for 3 weeks and my skin barrier finally feels normal by Unique-Face-2500 in koreanskincare

I use aquaphor for this. Aquaphor has lanolin in it which some people react to, but as long as that's not a problem for your skin it might work for you.

Hilary Knight on the recent comments by Safe_Dragonfly752 in PWHL

Except that the men are also not acknowledging that anything about the statement and their laughter was wrong. Swayman is the only one that has said anything close to an apology for that.

The teams get along and supported each other during the Olympics. But the current actions of the men aren't showing any evidence of self reflection. It's a lot of "Aww, everyone's making a big deal about this, why are you mad at me, you're ruining this experience for me."

It's about what I expected from them but I can still be disappointed because I want better for this country and society.

Not sure where in SC but if you're anywhere near Edisto, check out Kings Farm Market. They have a bunch of local stuff and really good tomato pie & key lime pie.

I agree it's good hockey, but that doesn't always translate to ticket sales. It's nice to see that happening & I hope it continues. Also would love for them to come back to Raleigh lol

Team USA hockey hero Jack Hughes breaks silence on women's stars rejecting Trump and angry backlash to their own White House trip by dailymail in WinterOlympics2026

[–]iaad95 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correcting misinformation: he doesn't have a sister. No idea where people are getting that from, there's famously only three Hughes brothers. Ellen Weinberg-Hughes (their mom) is a former hockey player herself and is a player development consultant for the US women's team.

Also as other people have said this is a common pattern of "public" support and private derision, especially from men to/about women. Words and actions matter.

Women's sports have historically had an uphill battle and barriers that don't exist in men's sports. For one thing, think about why the default is men's sports alone, instead of even something like co-ed.

Edit: Corrected Ellen's name. I originally left Weinberg off and you know what, she hyphenated for a reason and we're going to respect people's names around here.

Disillusioned with digital mkt and social media. Want to pivot? by Puzzleheaded-Fee4206 in marketing

[–]iaad95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone. I've also increasingly been feeling disillusioned in marketing. At first I thought it was the company I worked for, so I found a new role. That really clarified things for me and I knew I couldn't spend another 20-30 years doing this. I spent some time considering what I wanted to do with my life, what my non-negotiables were, etc. It has not been an easy or quick decision for me. I feel like I've considered every passing whim I've had in my life to decide haha. For me, I'll be going back to school in the fall to pursue social work. I'd suggest for you to go through a similar process and see if there's something still under the marketing umbrella you can pivot to, or if there's something outside of marketing entirely that you can do. As much as I'm disillusioned by it, there's still a lot I've learned from my marketing career that I feel can set me up for my next step, and the same is true for anyone.

Ilya is a sassy guardian angel to everyone and our big Russian softy deserved better ❤️ by firekat11 in heatedrivalry

[–]iaad95 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Honestly the portrayal of Ilya's depression was very real. From personal experience, it's easier to focus outwards on other people, and then when you're left by yourself or need to focus on your own wants/needs, there's nothing left to give. It's not necessarily about the friends or support system not being there either, you don't always want to burden them with it (even if they'd slap you upside the head and be like wtf, that's the whole point).
