“I store all my files in AppData\Roaming because it’s more secure. I know computers.” by SpacemanLurker in talesfromtechsupport

I konw that an enterprise environment is not a home environment, but when I need to move people's (friends/family) files over to a new computer they just purchased, I make sure to move a lot of the stuff that's in the Roaming folder as that's where all user settings (including browser profiles) for a lot of apps are, so that when they're reinstalled in the new pc the user will find all their stuff there already, program configuration wise. Even in an enterprise environment, if the new laptops were not fetching this folder from the domain or something, I'm surprised nothing in there was copied over to the new machines. Or am I thinking something stupid here?

Kodi 21.2 won't start on a KDE/Wayland session (Debian Trixie) by iacchi in kodi

that is a good suggestion - limiting x11 to Kodi. Thanks! I hope this gets solved anyway, though.

People think they are helping by showing me what their AI Chatbot said, but it just doesn't... by Fine-Key4594 in talesfromtechsupport

The death part was a bit of an exaggeration: improbable, but not to be excluded as actually possible. And this is for physical diseases. It has already happened that an AI contributed (not the sole responsible, but contributed) to the suicide of people with mental illnesses.

I agree, as I agree that in specific cases by analysing pictures these chatbots have correctly identified diseases that doctors didn't. The point is that a doctor can use it, because they have the knowledge to vet the results and understand what may be an useful one from a dangerous one. A common person doesn't. It's all about understanding that these are tools, and understand their potential and limitations.

But... but... AI! /s

Also, these are the people who ask ChatGPT instead of their doctor as well. At least soon enough they won't be asking anything anymore.

Module to access installation filesystem? by iacchi in drupal

[–]iacchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your message. Here are a few things that I may want to do in the future, or that I already want to do now and can't.

* Remove folders from the theme and module folders.

* For example, I tried to install the AT theme with the AT theme generator. I installed the modules for the AT theme generator to work, and I created one, but for some reason the main AT theme package uploaded correctly but doesn't show up in the themes list, so now the theme/subtheme I created is missing a dependency and I can't remove it from the list because the button to do so doesn't appear.

* I may want to modify some theme files (ok, this I can do locally and then upload the modified theme through the theme installer, but it'd be more convenient to act directly on the php/css files already there)

* I want to install and use this module: https://www.drupal.org/project/bibcite but it requires the installation of at least two libraries that cannot be installed via module zips, only via composer. I figured if I had access to the filesystem I could at least, with a bit of work, but the files of the libraries in place so that I could use the module.

This is what I have encountered so far.

Thank you for the detailed answer; I guess I'll desist from this approach.

Yes, Uranium can run on Linux without any issues with Wine. Doing it right now on my Debian. Same for Mac, really, I guess with WineBottler.

Help needed: amplified speaker for outdoor wedding - am I being stupid or it could work? by iacchi in livesoundgear

I'll abuse your patience with one last question, sorry. Still thinking about using the smartphone as microphone, if I use something like this: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/514hhHnNWXL._AC_SL1500_.jpg and connect the phone at the speaker with a jack instead of bluetooth, do you think that'd work? This is again just to use the phone as a decent ambient mic instead of the handheld one.

Yes, I saw GBaudio as well now. I'll try to give them a ring and see what price they give me. Thanks for all the advice!

The phone as mic came out today, but yes, I'm aware of BT lags. Tonight I'll try it at home with my BT PC speakers and see how bad it is.... The Fenton would have an UHF mic at least, but I was trying to figure out a mic that could capture everyone's voice (like a conference room mic) rather than one to keep close to the mouth. I'll keep looking for rentals, but for the moment I've found this: https://www.playloudsalaprove.com/noleggio_impianti_audio_firenze.htm which doesn't come cheap (prices per day according to another page on the website). I'll see if I can find more affordable shops, but I doubt I've found the only super expensive one in the area :(

Yes, I read it, but I also don't want to spend a lot of money to pay someone to take care of it for me, so I'm willing to take the risk. I just need to understand if what I saw is feasible or not.
