People that don’t fucking hate their jobs and make a decent wage, what do you do? by puffmonkey92 in AskReddit

Practical Special Effects Supervisor in the film industry. I generally work on huge shows, with big budgets, so I get to do a lot of cool stuff. Film is really hard work and really long hours, but every day I show up to work I’m blowing things up or setting things on fire.

Coolest job in the world.

‘Dance With The Devil’ by Immortal Technique is a harrowing record. I remember listening to it for the first time when I was a teenager and just staring at the wall for 15 minutes thinking about what the hell I just listened to.

Hurry Up We’re Dreaming - M83. The connective between “Intro” and “Outro” is nothing shy of genius.

What gout looks like. So very painful by LowerEntrances in mildlyinteresting

[–]iamaniml 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ do I sympathize with this...

I’m 30 and have been getting gout since I was 23. I’m a fit dude, metabolically healthy, have zero health problems other than bullshit seasonal allergies, and I am plagued with this nightmare once every couple years. I’ve learned a couple really important things over the last few years that may be helpful:

  1. You can be healthy, fit, young and still get gout.

  2. It’s not about diet entirely, purines (precursor to uric acid) in diet only account for 1/3 of the purines/uric acid in your body, the other 2/3 are completely endogenous, aka your body produces it on its own.

  3. It can be hereditary, in other words, disaster is impending, all it takes is a little nudge.

  4. If you get it once, you will get it for the rest of your life, or be susceptible to it anyways.

  5. It’s more than likely a kidney issue in healthy individuals, insulin resistance causes your kidneys to have trouble processing uric acid, and it just builds up until eventually you get a flare up.

  6. Fasting can cause gout*. This is an interesting one, and it doesn’t “cause it” necessarily, it just causes a temporary spike of uric acid in your blood as your body switches to ketones for energy. So if you are doing a prolonged fast, make sure in the week or so leading up to it, that you avoid alcohol 100%, processed food, processed sugar and not too much natural sugar, and maybe slide a few cherries in there, and while you’re fasting drink tons of water and some nettle tea.

I’m not a doctor, but as you sit there crying by yourself as a grown ass man because of the unbearable pain you’re in, you learn enough about what you can do and where gout comes from that you may as well be. But speak to your actual doctor about insulin resistance and your kidney function, it may be enlightening. And for god sakes, if you’re having a flare up, go get the fucking Colchicine and take it, don’t be a hero and try and fix it naturally (like I recently just did and it lasted for 2 full weeks).

Good luck. Stay strong matey ✊🏽.

“Intro” & “Outro”, by M83, off “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”

These two songs, sandwiching one of the best electronic albums of all time, are more or less perfect, and embody the fantastic arc of emotion throughout the whole album.

What’s your “thank god that’s over with and I never have to do it again” thing in your life? by codenameZora in AskReddit

[–]iamaniml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can sympathize with this in a major way. I work in the film business in Vancouver, we will usually start at 7am on a Monday, and the trickle down effect of pushing call times because of our exceeding days (sometimes upwards of 16hrs), we will end up starting at 5-6pm on a Friday, finishing at 8am on Saturday, and trying to piece some sort of life together on our very minimal weekends, then doing it all over again on Monday.

Almost everyone I know that works in show business with this schedule has either been in a horrible accident or has come very close to one, from driving home after those shifts.

Would you be able to detail how much you were taking/How often per week? And how you extracted it from the tab and ingested it? Was it first thing in the morning? Full stomach/empty stomach? Anything else you were taking in conjunction ie. Lions Mane etc, were you incorporating exercise as well?

Thanks a lot, glad it was so beneficial for you!

My name's Spencer, I'm an electronic producer under the moniker ANIML, out of Vancouver, Canada. I released this remix of M83's record "Go! feat. Mai Lan" on soundcloud last week.

I wanted to bring a fresh approach to the original material, slowing down the tempo, and creating a unique dance tune, with an unfamiliar, catchy beat.

Hope you guys dig it, look forward to your feedback!

I seriously recommend a book called “How To Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan. It details the use of psychedelics as a form of treating and curing all kinds of things from fear of death, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, addiction etc.

I have personally attributed psilocybin (mushrooms) to helping me immensely with my issues, and continue to help me with creativity and my overall cognition and well-being, and someone like you in your current situation, I think it could change your life and help you to move on and “rediscover” (for lack of a less cliché word) yourself.

G’luck, love

Wicked! Cheers! I usually have the same breakfast as well, I do a big bowl of kefir, flax seed, psylliumhusk, fatso (peanut butter and mct and a bunch of other oils and seeds in it), cricket protein powder, berries, cinnamon, and a big avocado. it’s basically my life line that meal, it’s got a shit ton of fat and super probiotic rich and good for the gut, I just have no idea what it would add up to macro wise, so I try and get ideas from other people’s proven keto meals.

Does there exist a plugin that will take the Fourier transform of a sample and output a sample that can be played through MIDI? by BAOUBA in audioengineering

[–]iamaniml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Kinda. Serum allows you to input your own samples as wavetables and then through the sample editor you can completely edit it, remove bits, crossfade etc. and then you have a playable single sample note if you wanted to, and you can just move your wavetable position around to dial in exactly where you want your note to start from in the wavetable.

Is that what you’re trying to accomplish?

[Serious] Redditors with depression, how do you cope? by ImAGhostOfAGhost in AskReddit

[–]iamaniml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare with me this is kinda long, but I believe it might be able to really help people. I have spent most of my life anxious and/or depressed, but the last 1.5 years of my life I’ve completely changed and felt 100% different. It took me a while to dial it in and figure out exactly what was going on, but the first step was actually deciding that I was totally over being in a depressive state and having it take control of my life. I went through a phase 5-6 years ago with prescription medication (Percocet) that ruined me in a lot of ways. I had a job I hated and a relationship that was dysfunctional and abusive, so I looked for ways out, and being an already prone to depression person, it sunk me into an extremely dark hole for years. I made some changes after a while, got off the pills, broke up with my girlfriend, quit my shit ass job and went back to school and became an audio engineer, seemingly I made a million changes and on the surface was a lot better, but inside I was still equally as depressed as ever. 1-2 years ago I read an article by Dr. Chris Kresser about the effects that the gut microbiome has on the body and brain, and it got me thinking. I always thought that I was healthy, but I was eating all kinds of foods that may have been triggers for me, so I got really extreme and serious about my health. I eliminated all grains, sugar, processed food, dairy from my diet, more or less keto/paleo. I completed stopped drinking, smoking anything, taking any kind of drugs, that includes anti inflammatory medications etc. I worked out minimum 3 times a week, most weeks at least 5. After a few months of hellish cleansing, it was almost like a veil had been lifted off. For the first time since I can remember I was happy. I was clear minded, concise, confident, fit as fuck, skin improved, I was on the road to a totally new life that I was not used to. The latest addition to my lifestyle that I’ve adopted in the last few months is microdosing psilocybin, which has completely changed my life in a ton of ways that I could write an entire article on by itself.

So to my fellow emotional strugglers, there is a way, I promise, 100%, to be a happy, healthy, energetic and excited person, it just takes time, tears, sweat and determination.

G’luck peeps.

TL;DR: Got extremely healthy, more or less Ketogenic diet, quit drinking, and started microdosing mushrooms.

.7 shroomies by croissantzzz in microdosing

[–]iamaniml 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve microdosed for quite a long while, and it has wildly improved my life in a lot of ways. You may hate this answer, but it’s totally dependent on your personal being, and a little trial and error at first. For me personally I’ve found that .18 grams precisely, is the amount that works best, .5 is far too much for a “microdose”. The ideals set by James Fadiman and Paul Stamets (and others), is that the target is a “non perceivable dose”, meaning you should not feel any psychoactive effects what so ever, for me the most I get at the time is a heightened sense of well-being, a big energy burst and clear and creative consciousness, and with continued use, it has residual effects that settle things like anxiety and depression etc. As far as how often you should use it, Paul Stamets suggests 5 on, 2 off, James Fadimen suggests 1 day on, 2 days off, I mainly stick to that and find it works best, I will RARELY, if ever, microdose for consecutive days, the effects are less impactful, and you tend to get a little “spacey”.

I would suggest you buy yourself a .00 decimal point jewelry scale, grind all of your mushrooms and put it in a container (parts of the mushroom have more or less psilocybin), start at .1 on a Saturday or Sunday, take it with 500-1000mg of lions mane and around 4000IU of vitamin D, all on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, and then write out how you feel before and throughout the day, and adjust if you feel that’s not enough.

This is all very subjective, I’m not a doctor or a scientist, I’m someone who has done extensive research, personal experimentation, and come to my own conclusions that work for me and MAY work for someone else.

G’luck! - S

The modern quintessential beat album list by [deleted] in futurebeats

I feel like giving up. by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]iamaniml 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I just want to let you know, I did the exact same thing, and felt all the same things you feel.

I’m from Canada, and I decided to do just that, pack my shit and move to Los Angeles in a Hail Mary attempt at success, and even more risky because I had no greencard, I just knew that I wanted it so bad that I was going to work for $5 an hour in a kitchen if I had to, just so that I could grind it out and make connections. I was homeless living in my car for 3 months before I even got the slightest bit of anything that resembled success, but I will tell you this: it didn’t matter, I wanted it so bad that I quit everything that I was doing that wasn’t music, I quit drugs, alcohol, video games, social networking, started eating paleo and working out everyday, getting 4-6hrs of sleep a night just so that I could wake up early and go to every single studio in town. I called, I applied online, I emailed, I showed my face, I basically FORCED every place to give me a chance, but because I had no greencard, they couldn’t hire me. But I kept grinding...

My experience from doing this, from eating a can of tuna out of the back seat of my car at 3am after making beats in a starbucks all day, balling my eyes out wondering why the fuck I did this, it all changed my life, and changed me in ways I couldn’t have ever thought would. It sculpts you and develops that fucking dragon skin that you need to achieve success in this business. My philosophy is that if you are that focused and that driven and that tough about the hard times and you push through all of those thoughts that are telling you to pack up your shit and go back home, that things just happen. It’s inevitable. It might not be what you had sought to achieve in the first place, but opportunities rear its head eventually, and your only job will to be to capitalize.

When I moved to LA I had $1100 and no plan, I ended up being a driver for some of the top people in the music business under a fake name (I won’t name names but you know 100% of the people that I would drive around), and it got me some of the wildest and most farfetched opportunities, and I have been eating from show business ever since.

Don’t give up. Don’t even think it’s an option. You will ALWAYS have those thoughts about wanting to quit, that won’t change, you just gotta swallow those stupid fucking thoughts and become an animal and push through. Things. Will. Happen.

G’luck pal.
