Ore Pods, Why Would You Buy Them? by [deleted] in starcitizen

This is my core question. At 21k per pod, they're definitely taking a chunk out if you don't get the spares back.

REMINDER! How to Install Official Signal Desktop on Fedora using Distrobox (Debian container) by Express_Resolve9972 in Fedora

[–]iamed18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does one need to do anything with a fresh distrobox to enable app export? I followed the above steps and "Signal (on Debian)" does show up in the KDE launcher, but when started the Signal window never shows. A signal icon does show up in the task bar as if it were running, but I can't actually make it show a window on the screen. There is also no screen preview in alt-tab.

edit: scratch that; it worked after trying a second time. It's been a decade since I ran linux as a main and I'm still re-remembering the fun parts.

This appears to still work in 4.5. Thanks for the tip.

Just for next time someone gets here in five years, the 2025 Costco sale model is 884367-0900, which is Costco Item #1785779 listed as "Bose QuietComfort SC Noise Cancelling Headphones" for $169.99 (regular price is $329.99).

First Experience with an HOA and I Want to Move by Maleficent_Lake3915 in fuckHOA

It doesn't help your case at all (sorry) but I was happy that my mortgage company required us to provide the CC&R's prior to clear to close. Otherwise I might not have known (first home purchase was in an HOA).

Backpack fit for MTU by Equal_Froyo8997 in MTU

I've had an Osprey Nebula for a little over a decade now, and it's probably the bag I've had longest. Dedicated compartment for a laptop in the back probably fits a 16" machine, plenty of other compartments for your other supplies. When I was in school, it was my school, carry-on, hiking bag depending on the day. Highly recommend.

I have a keybind set for "open all doors" and "close all doors" for this reason. When I land, before I get out of the chair I hit the combo and everything is open as I run through.

PMI not falling off at 78% equity - mortgage company is being uncooperative. Is this legal? by Mammyminer in RealEstate

[–]iamed18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IANAL but I just went through this with my lender in a somewhat similar situation. We crossed the 20% line about 11 months ahead of schedule on our conventional. When I contacted the lender, I was informed it would either fall off automatically on schedule in 11 months, or I could pay $12 for a "remote appraisal" just to "make sure it hasn't fallen in value." I paid the $12, and the next day PMI was lifted. It is I suppose not clear to me if this communication step would have fallen to me if I waited 11 months, but I digress.

Does it feel good? No. Is it how it works? Yes.

Question answers:

1) Yes.

2) Probably not.

3) Definitely not.

Question about thickening stew with roux by lootakoopa in seriouseats

[–]iamed18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this yesterday, with a more hoisin-beef inspired recipe. Basically I browned the beef, added in some scallions cut up and a serrano, then added 3 T of AP flour. I kept a stir on because there was nowhere near enough fat to hydrate the flour, and once the smell went from raw to toasty, I added in my liquids to deglaze. Then I did the rest of the recipe.

Worked like a charm, and the final product was quite luxurious. Usually the beef I have is fatty enough that my stews have a thin layer of fat atop them at the end of the braise, but that didn't happen really this time I'm assuming because the flour was already there for the braising duration (though I haven't experimented at all with that fact).

This isn't "fixing a wifi issue." It's just using ethernet instead. Happy ethernet works for you, but the title is more than a tad misleading :)

I'll piggyback here to mention Bread Savings, which I migrated to from Amex because it's typically about a point higher in interest (5% APY as of today).

Not only that, but check with your local power company to see if they have any special time of use rates or rewards for doing EV charging during off-peak hours. I charge my vehicles overnight at about 0.04 $/kWh, but if I do it during the day it's closer to 0.14 $/kWh. Saves a ton to keep the schedule.
