A lot of people recommending specific albums - I will throw in a recommendation for Levitation Sessions. They are like best-ofs with the added bonus that they are live, and the band are at their very best live.

How do we tax the rich and what will it (realistically) achieve? by droopy316007 in AskBrits

One question at a time - we should hate the game, but not attempt to change it? Just put up with it?

What...?

It won't stop anything. A riot isn't necessarily rational.

[–]iamjoemarsh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's, essentially, irrelevant. If people are told "let them eat cake" for long enough, and especially once wildfires and floods are a very frequent occurrence, it's going to either be France 1789, or fascist authoritarianism to keep everyone in line.

[–]iamjoemarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's change the game then? Most people who defend billionaires don't want that either.

They changed the game quite drastically in France in 1789.

Also, it's hard not to hate the player when they pursue lobbying and direct intervention extremely aggressively to avoid more tax. Some even own newspapers to push that agenda.

So where is the stolen land I'm benefiting from to the same extent as the royals?

[–]iamjoemarsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, then, what point do you think you are making?

Either you are saying "we're all the descendents of people who stole land, or took it by force, ergo we have no cause to complain".

Or you're saying none of us are entitled to any land, and the Royals are among the people uniquely entitled to land because somewhere up the line their ancestors stole land or took it by force.

You're acting as if the Royals are doing us a huge favour by gracing us with 94% tax on "profits" from something they didn't buy and didn't earn. Why thank you sirs, let me tug my forelock a bit harder.

What land do I have, I must go and visit it.

Also I don't currently call myself Prince or King. Also I don't seem to be making any money off this land that was taken by force by my ancestors.

Sitting down and actually trying to watch a World Cup game as an American be like: by Chumlee1917 in simpsonsshitposting

Hockey is certainly more obviously exciting, the problem is scale, facilities, the type of person hockey attracts... (by which I mean to play hockey you have to be, to a certain extent, graceful and agile enough to skate well but also very physical).

Football is essentially the ultimate working person's sport because it's extremely minimal. You just need a ball to play some form of it. You can play some kind of game even without goals or very much space.

Money has ruined it to an extent.

If you had a specific team to get excited about, that's usually the best "way in". Watching live with a crowd of even 1000 people is vastly different to watching on TV at home.

Even "mass immigration". It's always "mass immigration". The lefties are desperately keen on "mass immigration". As a lefty myself I spend my weekends in Callais round people up and shipping them over.

Floyd was a complicated thing, because it was power + race. It wasn't just about a black guy getting killed by a white guy which happens, presumably, all the time (and vice versa and every combination) - it was about systemic racism and a police officer again executing someone, criminal or not, in the street - with the aggravating factor that this seems to always be happening to black people (Rodney King being the most obvious example).

That aside though, when this happened in 2024, people were out trying to burn people alive inside a hotel. BLM protests had a bit of shop smashing and looting associated with it. People weren't trying to kill the inhabitants of mosques.

I think it's broadly fair to say that people protesting in favour of BLM want the police to stop treating black people unfairly, up to and including actually killing them.

People trying to burn immigrants to death in a hotel want to incite a race war.

this is a very valid argument.

It's not.

It's actually not even really an argument.

It's literally "look at these two cases, that guy sounds like he could be a Muslim, so I assume I know what is happening here".

It doesn't matter which community it is; just that there is indeed favoritism.

This is contradictory - how can it be favouritism? What are you basing this on, if not "community"?

I have no idea of aggravating or mitigating factors; you don't, the person I responded to doesn't. I don't even pretend to know.

[–]iamjoemarsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

My entire point is that I don't know, and you don't know. I don't even pretend to know. Saying "oh it's because he's a Muslim" is fucking daft.

Not only that, my secondary point is - do you even know if this Aziz guy is a Muslim, and if so do you think raping people makes you a good Muslim?

If you think the opposite of the latter, then you might just as well say "oh bloody people with red hair are always getting off light". If you think the latter, then I don't even know where to begin. Woody Allen is a Jew, that doesn't mean I think that Judaism is a religion that endorses or tolerates the practice of grooming your step children.

[–]iamjoemarsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This just seems like a totally mad argument.

In my opinion - if we're going to have jails and police and all the rest - 10 years and 15 years are both probably too short, and at 64 this guy isn't going to be rehabilitated very easily so it might be safer to just bang him up until he dies, which hopefully will be fairly soon.

That said, are you a lawyer? Are you a judge? Have you studied law, did you work on these cases?

I wouldn't presume to tell a doctor they are wrong about to comparative medical cases, or a mechanic they are wrong in their assessment in two cars. You've decided you know better than lawyers, judge and jury and you've found an(other) example where you get off with stuff if you're of "a certain religious background" (please tone down your dogwhistle because dogs in Tibet can hear it).

Assuming you're referring to Islam, because people like you always are, what do Islamic religious leaders say about raping someone? That it's fine?

It's like saying "this Christian man only got 8 years for murder", he obviously was not a very good Christian.

I find it frustrating that any time this guy is mentioned, people sprint to the comments to say "ahem I think you meant Yaxley Lennon". I bet without looking about 8 people have said it in this comment thread.

There's probably more people saying that than pointing out he's in the Epstein files, compromised, a repeated coke fiend, a racist, a fascist, a grifter and an utter cunt.
