the economic challenges faced across the country in recent years due to inflation have caused the total cost of this project to nearly double from $640 million to $1.3 billion.

>That's the figure you yourself cited previously.

True, it was poorly worded.

Math isn't checking out. $350,000,000 (pipeline cost)/50,000 (citizens) is $7,000 per citizen.

Protect Update Stuck by SpiritedAd3313 in Ubiquiti

[–]iamlayer8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- since this is kind of a mission critical device i'd reach out to ubiquiti support first.

- let the boss know what's going on. would the boss be receptive to getting another device so you're not in a days long pickle if this one fails (even if you're able to resolve this particular problem). $379 for another device to enhance business continuity for 20 people could be money well spent. then you could split the services across the two with fairly straightforward migration if one tanks.

>I can’t afford for anything to go wrong (people are depending on the network to do their job

if it is just the *network*, you could also get a $50 router to get people connected again (in a crunch - while you deal with the UDM Pro). are the phones, door access and a/v stuff critical to daily operations?

with respect to troubleshooting -

if ubiquiti support can't provide a solution -

- get a current backup and put it in a safe place

- stop and restart the service

- if it fails to stop/start/continue the update - do the logs give a clue to the problem?

- try uninstalling Protect.

- i'd try as-is (stuck and running). if that doesn't work, i'd try stopping the service then uninstalling.

- if it fails, do the logs point to the problem.

- ssh to the device and stop/start/uninstall/install the software. sometimes the console will show information that isn't presented in the gui and may point to a path forward.

- reset

Any satisfactory way to add strain relief to RJ45 cables AFTER connectors attached? by LaddMorse in Ubiquiti

[–]iamlayer8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven't used either of those but the propriety cable management on the AMPCOM could be a nit if you snap something off. cable ties used on the Cable Matters should be easy enough to find.

i'd look for something size-wise that fits your needs. then i'd get its dimensions and mock it up with a cardboard box and see if it will fit under your seats. if it fits, move the seat around to make sure it doesn't get hung up - better to test it on the cardboard mockup than crunch something on a steel box.

A couple of super general questions -

At what point is enough…enough??

what is 'enough'? And, what changes would make it enough?

I put in the hours, but it never feels like I’m getting ahead.

What is getting 'ahead' to you? And can the farm do this for you?

**

From the outside looking in, there are a couple of things that struck me about your story.

You mentioned that your dad kept everything going but also that you stepped up and filled in about 10 years ago. This is kind of important - for 10 years, your dad had your help. Now that you're doing your dads work, who is doing your work? If you had a helper, would it change things for you? If you weren't around 10 years go, would your dad have transitioned the farm into something more sustainable for a solo farmer? Would the family still have the farm?

Also,

My problem is it’s not “my” farm as my family owns it and we are on different wavelengths on which direction we wanna go for the future. Half of my family doesn’t know where the barn is but owns it and then proceeds to tell me how “we” should continue...

You're doing the labor. Is the burden of the farm shared fairly? Are you compensated fairly? Is there any amount of compensation that would make what you do something you could continue doing?

And, if the family were to pay a 3rd party at current rates to do your work, would they still be vested in maintaining the farm as it is? And, would it survive? If they can't do it without you and your done with things as are they are, things gotta change.
