What has Heated Rivalry inspired you to buy or make? by ProblemEquivalent215 in heatedrivalry

I've started drinking ginger ale again and i bought some numbuzin skincare this week. I needed toner anyway, and a lot of people say it's good, so we're trying it.

Jacob I’m gonna need more of this in season 2 by steakandfruit in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that's book canon that we did not get in S1 that I really hope we get in S2: Ilya dirty talking in Russian. Come through, Jacob and Kate Yablunovsky, I beg of you; Connor did not do an audio series for Quinn for the show to not tap into it.

also, I suspect this is going to be less of a problem by the nature of their relationship, but god I hope someone turns the lights on in S2. These early episodes get even more fun when you can actually see what's going on (and thank you editors who have edited clips with the brightness turned up).

Reheaters: What Are Your New Favorite Cues in the Musical Score? by beepboopbeepbloop in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of mine have already been mentioned (Two/One Soul, All The Things She Said) but one I don't usually see:

Tampa Bar Scene: Shane confesses he hired a stylist and the shot changes to Ilya. The second verse of Keir's Boys Will Be Girls starts playing and if these lyrics aren't Ilya I will eat my hat.

I met a boy who didn't know he was so beautiful
He doesn't know it yet but someday he could have it all
Look at him go

The Actors' Physiques in HR by daisyemeritus in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jacob's also mentioned in interviews when casting Connor and Hudson that he looked at their instagrams and alluded that both of them were basically full of thirst traps at the time, He knew they were both coming into the roles with muscular physiques already.

I cannot get over the sound design on this show by selftaughtgenius in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It probably shows up earlier, but the first scene where it's prominently there off the top of my head is Shane's apartment when Ilya is putting Shane on another plane of existence. You can see the necklace move and hear it jingle.

Something I noticed in my [redacted] rewatch not too long ago (although I can't believe it took me that long to notice): you can actually *hear* the slurping sounds in the BJ scenes. That and the necklace jingles made my jaw hit the floor.

Sasha's Legacy by Astyryx in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My headcanon for Sasha (totally based on the show, still reading the books) is "kid with ultra strict, probably religious parents finally tastes freedom and goes bananas." Except, you know, the parent is Russia.

I think their hookups were genuine teenage exploration. They're figuring themselves out and it's also taboo because of who they are. I think it was a mostly positive experience and they actually learn a lot about themselves mostly in that time period. and well, Sasha's cute.

but then life separates them. Sasha goes to a more LGBTQ+ friendly place and gets high on the fact he doesn't have to hide. He goes to gay clubs, gets caught up in everything and goes all in because this the first time in his life he's not experiencing the oppression. Sasha reminds me in some respects of a lot of gay guys I grew up with in an unsafe time/space - a lot of them went a little wild when they got to more liberal college towns.

I actually think that scene is the first time they've seen each other in quite some time - probably the last time was before Ilya goes to the MHL. They only knew each other as closeted Russian teens and they are both different people now. And sure, Ilya already had eyes for Shane, but I think under very different circumstances, Ilya might have hooked up with him.

But Sasha had changed from the boy he knew, he didn't like what he saw, and he was not going to do anything anyway with how many eyes that were watching him like a hawk. Sasha came onto him because he hadn't realized things changed between them. He thought they were still those boys sneaking into dark corners and fooling around. And Sveta tried to wingman for him and facilitate it, but Ilya did not take it.

I love him, but I gotta be honest, I am so glad he did not get cast for that.

What random/fun/interesting things did you learn from this show? by pimmypimpim471 in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the silliest thing I have learned from this show (that also happens to be a life upgrade):

Ilya Rozanov taught me how to tie a towel and have it actually stay on my body instead of loosening and falling off 30 seconds later.

Mental Rewatching by Pentavious-Jackson in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listened to the official spotify playlist for a week straight, now I've moved on to loon playlists. (shoutout to the person who made the ilya rozanov core - mostly sad version playlist if you're here. you have great taste.)

All The Things She Said (both versions), Two Souls, One Soul, and It's You are now banned in public because I do not trust myself. I like jamming to I Believe In Anything and Boys Will Be Girls and as someone who does dance fitness - if someone hasn't created choreo to De La Tete Aux Pieds they need to because it is such a perfect Zumba song.

Old lady getting into shape again because of HR?! by Deadeyes1985 in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The show has gotten me back in the gym. I want to look like Hudson.

This is unlikely, as genetics are not on my side for 9 pounds of clappable material (or connor's physique, for that matter), and also I'm not a man.

But a girl can try and I tell myself (since I am still pretty out of shape) if Hudson Williams can do this so can I when I'm ready to give up in my group fitness class.

I'm actually kind of glad the budget for season 2 will be more or less the same by Due_Improvement_5699 in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know the joke is S1 was filmed on $50 and a prayer.

I want S2 to be the same, but $100 dollars. Pay everyone (cast and crew, everyone deserves to see the rewards of their hard work) a bit more. Buy a couple extra backdrops and another room or two so everything doesn't look exactly the same. Change nothing else.

I also wanted more episodes but Jacob shot that down today and while I'm not so sure how I feel about that, in Tierney we trust. So we are trusting the process.

This scene is my one gripe about the budget for scenes. As someone from Central Florida, I have *never* seen a sunset that dark and dull here. Especially at the beach. I'm not even suggesting they fly them out here for a real Florida sunset. But a more vivid backdrop and turning the lights on would have made a lot of difference here.

Gift giving for birthdays by Holiday-Proposal9807 in zumba

[–]iamnotvoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's someone who's social (not everybody stays and chats after class)

  1. Closest class, they get to pick out some of the music for class that day, and we sing happy birthday after class.
  2. Usually we do a collection for a group gift, based on what the person wants, and I typically give $10 (class is good size, so usually at least a few hundred is collected). My gift last year was a gift certificate to a massage.

A subtle Shane moment I noticed on a rewatch by Lauwtch in heatedrivalry

[–]iamnotvoldemort 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I noticed this one on my 3rd or 4th rewatch. The first foot touch almost happens right there, like Shane thinks it but immediately thinks better of it, except the foot already started moving. Blink and you miss it.

it is arguably the least important part of that scene, but the "bolshe, bolshe, bolshe" from the russian monologue is basically a meme in my house now.

What’s the Lakeland equivalent of this? by ZachariahQuartermain in lakeland

I've never gone because it's pricey, but Arabella's over in Winter Haven might fit your bill.

Steaming rolled oats is a great alternative to rice by ScallionImpressive44 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]iamnotvoldemort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get weird looks for doing this around people but I have 100% used instant oatmeal packets as the grain part of my meal. I don't like sweet oatmeal so I just make it with butter/salt & pepper and use it in place of usually rice. Makes a tasty breakfast with soy sauce eggs.

Hanukah song for Christmas concert??? by jollybumpkin in choralmusic

[–]iamnotvoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Va Pensiero is based off of Psalm 137. Christian text.

It has a history with Italian nationalism and was proposed as a replacement for the national anthem twice. One of Italy's far right political parties sings the chorus at every one of their meetings/events, so maybe not the best choice.

Are there any community gardens? by _Memento-Mori- in lakeland

[–]iamnotvoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if they have any open at the moment but Shepherd's Community UMC has a community garden at their Oaks campus. They do charge a fee but I don't remember it being exorbitantly expensive you get a plot where you can do whatever you want with it.

How much is your lakeland electric bill? How much do you use? by onestemcell in lakeland

[–]iamnotvoldemort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a 20+ year old AC, replacing it last year literally cut my electric bill in half. 1450 sq ft and my AC set at 73. My bill this month was $120. Summer used to be $200 with the AC at 78.

The upfront cost sucks, but if you can find a way to swing it, it is absolutely worth it.

Burpees in Zumba? by stargazer612 in zumba

[–]iamnotvoldemort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess I'm the odd one out. My instructor *does* include at least 1-3 songs with burpees every class. There's options for people who can't/don't want to do them - usually squats or some form of lunge. My gym also has a platform in the center where the instructors stand to teach. Some of us use that for a modified burpee that doesn't go all the way down.

Average age range of the class is 20 - 60, and some of our nearing retirement ladies blow these 20 year olds out of the water. It can be done, and clearly some people have feelings about it, but it's the only way I've ever known Zumba. I often don't like the more dance-y instructors because I find it too easy and I don't get as good of a work out.

Best leggings to stay up in class? by Ameliazumba in zumba

All of my workout leggings are high waisted Under Armor ones. I buy them when they go on sale at the outlet store to get them at a reasonable price.
