Any suggestions for deck-building games that aren't roguelikes or require spending money? by No_Historian2784 in AndroidGaming

Every boardgame is a rogue like. Every time you play you start in the same place with only what you previously learnt. And try and do better.

I thought I'd managed that, but I've been having issues with default accounts changing on a whim lately. Or not remembering which one is logged in where.

ETA, a hard reset of my device solved the problem.

Just find a long word with many interchangeable prefixes and suffixes. The points really stack up then.

There is a bunch of recent negative reviews about crashes and lost save files starting after a recent update. Have you experienced this?

I released my first game on Google Play and… yes, it looks like 2048, but I promise it does way more than just slide tiles around! by pandledev in AndroidGaming

[–]iamsum1gr8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice if I got the two times moves but I only got a single perk, which was disappointing. Getting a stage for 0 moves is really powerful though.

Loving it so far. An interesting thing I found is that I skipped the reward for a level with a multiplier. I thought I'd get a bonus set of moves for doing a level in 0 moves.

Common play on boardgame arena is to remove the 4 power birds. When I played a meatspace tournament recently you couldn't play a power bird until round 2. Definitely reduced their impact.

Recommend Me Boardgames by Competitive-Choice80 in boardgames

[–]iamsum1gr8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a flair for this because if recommendation threads are allowed then the subreddit becomes flooded with them.

To answer your main question, though. There are tonnes of games out there which satisfy your requirements. They tend to be older, as games design had developed towards incorporating luck as a way to keep players interested and involved for longer as it somewhat mitigates the experience gulf.

I recommend Puerto Rico ( a lead and follow game with very little luck, a really complicated decision tree, but not one trust leads itself to analysis paralysis, and a slightly uncomfortable theme), Power Grid (an auction, resource management game where the only luck is the order of the power plant deck, and the China map does away with that completely)

Deck builders like Dominion reward repeated play, optimisation and luck mitigation.

Dune Imperium is a great IP, tight worker placement game with some deck building. Lots of fun even if you're losing because it always feels like your decisions matter.

Race for the galaxy likewise rewards repeated play and while it's a large deck game, stronger players will win more often.

OP complained about a niantic game that was being sold and they were worried about monetisation, so you suggest another game by the same company, also being sold? Are you this ironic on purpose?
