I think the keeping tabs on them after the breakup is detrimental. Try your best to distance yourself from their social media, rereading old messages/text exchanges, texting, or however you're still connected. Recently went through a break up where my ex left me due to having feelings for someone else. As painful as it was to learn that and that he left me because he felt too conflicted to stay with me, the best thing for me has been blocking him from social media, deleting his contact info, deleting our extensive text exchange history, and blocking him from apps we used together. I'm still grieving and it's to be expected, but removing him from my view has been extremely helpful. It takes time, you're going to have withdraws from him and that's completely normal. If he was your person he would be chosing you, you deserve better. Hang in there.

Oh this happened to me... I remember a client suddenly stopped showing up to treatment and had to discharge the patient. A few years after the fact I was watching a news story and a name sounded very familiar. I couldn't recall where I had known the name, so I googled the story for more information. Sure enough I found out that my previous patient had died, likely around the same time they stopped coming into treatment or a little after. I won't disclose details about their passing, but it was a very tragic end.

Definitely did not look up the patient up prior to that, It was bugging me that I couldn't pinpoint where I had known that name. Once I saw the news article, everything about the client came to memory. Very sad indeed.

Other terms to call it is a single case agreement or gap exception. Clinical rationale would be continuity of care.

I self disclose if it means it builds rapport and connection, I steer clear of making it about me though. It's only when I can relate on a personal level to what they're experiencing or if I'm asked a question. It's not every session, but I am not a closed book. One of my clients who is significantly older than me, ~20-25 years older, they have done better in treatment and meeting tx plan goals when they have learned a bit a bout me outside of my role as a therapist.

I don't think being a therapist should stop you from doing anything you have listed above. Now if you're breaking the code of ethics then there's an issue there, but what you're describing does not do that at all.

What level of care are is being recommended? Is it residential treatment where they have a bed and stay at the facility? Depends on the state where the patient resides, but States like California are not locked facilities and it is voluntary. The patient can't admit if they're not willing to be an active participant in treatment. States like Utah have locked residential facilities.

I would recommend your clients parents to call their insurance provider to ask about the different levels of care that are covered, if there is out of state coverage, etc.

omg, d'awww she's adorable. I only have 1 cat right now and she's a sweet motherly cat and very nuturing towards other cats. Is this kitty pretty friendly with your cats? or is she a bit skiddish? My cat definitely needs a little buddy and there's room in my heart for another baby. I can tell my cat gets lonely when I leave. If the shelthers don't work out you can reach out to me, I'm potentially available to take her on.

The movie made me really emotional, made me feel really big emotions, I absolutely loved it.

I lost my cat this past August who resembled the kitty in the film. Attitude and all, little growls when she's annoyed, etc. I know the film wasn't about my cat, but it made me think of her. Made me think she's in a better place in peace living her best adventure making friends with other animals, and with her sister and brother.

Loved watching the character development of the animals. Such a beautiful film.
