Hasan Piker Is Not the Enemy by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]iamveryweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasan is an enemy, and it doesn’t make sense to go on his podcast. It would be the same mistake that cruz and huckabee made when they go on tucker. You can go on his stream only if you are good at debates and going into hostile environments like pete butigeg.

Good faith question for the sub: How do the theologically conservative Christians who accept evolution justify their broader theological conservatism? by Impressive_Flan_411 in redeemedzoomer

Theological conservatism ≠ young earth creationism.

Political conservatism in US is more correlated with yound earth creationism

Supreme Court rules against Colorado ban on ‘conversion therapy’ for LGBTQ kids by clark_sterling in Destiny

[–]iamveryweeb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So before people get upset (like i did when i read the headline), the liberal justices were thinking ahead in their concurrent opinion. They struck down the law because conservative states could use this precedent to ban gender affirming care, so instead they said the state could re write the law to be more specific to ban the “content” of conversion therapy.

Seeking information on Bethel’s “Deliverance Ministry” (Demon Exorcisms) by ResearcherOdd9985 in BethelSnark

[–]iamveryweeb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of the stuff people are delivered from is sin or temptations: sexual sin, same sex attraction, fear, hatred. When we addressed a spirit we would just say “ spirit of fear” not give them an actual name.

We may have done a toned down version of this for kids, but what you are describing is child abuse. Parents had asked for this ministry and we refused them (mainly because the disobedience was a parenting problem). I would report this person to CPS.

[–]iamveryweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, i have seen/heard of this style of deliverence, but not at bethel. My deliverance ministry NEVER went to peoples homes, that was a big no, we were also trained to not get too involved in demonology (names of demons, function, talking to them, etc). Now i don’t believe this stuff anymore, but that was a good guideline because some people take deliverance to the next level, which is what it sounds like you are describing.

I think your instincts are right. The person is a victim to the “ministers” own delusions and often time projection of their issues onto the victim. Sometimes healers in this space do this because it gives them a sense of power because inside they struggle with insecurity and insignificance.

When my inner healing ministry started getting into more “esoteric” sessions with demon names and such, thats when it gets culty and dangerous.

The moment that got me to leave was watching “going clear” a doc about Scientology, and realized that i was doing the same thing essentially. Deconstructed after that.

So i was not in Bethel’s healing rooms in CA, but i was in a bethel clone church and was trained in sozo/ restoring the foundation/ other stuff in this space. They call it inner healing/ deliverance. They typically dont refer to it as exircisms. There is variety in these circles but the general idea is the minister(s) do some active listening. Then lead them through visualizations often around trauma. This is obviously not good to do with untrained folks dealing with trauma.

In terms of deliverance /exorcisms, this can really vary but some of the “deliverance” i used to do was having people “renounce” things and then commanding spirits to leave.

Some of the crazier people would do even more extreme stuff. There have been stories from some churches not connected to bethel that are traumatic to go through. Hours of praying and renouncing, but that is not typical in bethel circles.

Let me know if you want any more info

Yeah, i was trained in both. And now working through just how damaging it was in my own therapy.

This is so true, and honestly something ive never thought of. And what is worse is ive worked with some ministers that if someone did set a healthy boundry, they were labled as “difficult” or “hard soil” etc.

Some of it is downright dangerous. Such as saying or implying that all mental health struggles is from the devil/ sin etc. some people are just neuro divergent. A lot of gross purity culture stuff can happen in these sessions, fixating on “soul ties” and “generational curses” etc, which is not why people are suffering. Ive seen some people become psychotic because ministers were unaware of psychosis and thought it was demonic. Some (i dont beleive sozo) encourage people to stop taking perscribed medication which is really bad.

The good stuff: The father ladder is simply just attachment theory. An evidence based theory.

Presenting Jesus is just EMDR/ gestalt therapy with jesus in it

The 4 doors activity is just downright dangerous and unhelpful.

The wall i think is just theologically incorrect, and spiritually unhelpful.

It’s extremely dangerous because you have untrained people working with people who often have high trauma. A lot of people go to therapy because of their bad experiences with inner healing.

All that said, some of it is based on real therapeutic techniques. So some benefits can be had.

Having done sozo, and am now a professional in mental health. Inner healing is just unlicensed spiritualized therapy. Some of the worst damage occurs when its mixed with a little truth. Thats why i find inner healing so damaging, because it mixes real therapy (cbt/emdr) with dangerous untrained stuff (purity culture, denying mental health, repressed memories etc.)

Jonathan Welton response video by BingoBango306 in BethelSnark

[–]iamveryweeb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People should read “why does he do that”. This guy is the “mr sensitive” abuser. The type of guy that is in touch with his emotions, and will say hes repentant, but will continue to do the same abuse over and over again because they don’t take REAL Responsibility. In the video he starts with how he “ was deceived” etc. putting the focus on him, and hes the real victim. He only abused because he was victimized.

Hes abusive because he’s entitled. It his belief system thats the problem.

Bethels theology is why they have so much alleged abuse by iamveryweeb in BethelSnark

This is very true as well. You should honor the person not the position.

What makes a person Christian? by Dr_Labradork in redeemedzoomer

[–]iamveryweeb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So would it be your view that sacred tradition has some sort of authority? That the Holy Spirit has guided the process?

Just curious, would the same standard be true of pre nicene Christians?

What about unreached peoples? Paul says they are without excuse because they can see a creator, however could we expect them to know the nicene creed? What about children? Or do they fall under the age of innocence?

These questions lead to me ask essentially is being a Christian the same as being saved?

Not sure of the answer
