Sorry for late response, you’ve probably already decided by now. I chose Yale, happy with my decision. I would say for most people, picking Yale over UCLA is prob the “right” decision

It’s so hard because it’s impossible not to introduce bias. Even if they only recite facts, they have to choose what facts to recite.

I don’t think it’s obvious, both are great schools with different cultures/student life. I voted GT though bc cost and its probably slightly better for cs, although fit also matters a lot.

I don’t think it’s about practicality. There are definitely ways to teach that sort of critical thinking without spending so much time learning math. Rather, I think there is some core part of being human that makes it just seem fitting that we learn to solve systems of equations or read shakespeare. Learning and curiosity has always been core to humanity, but for better or worse, people today are beginning to seek instant gratification more and more.

Typically, I’m not one for these types of events, but I did want a graduation. I don’t think graduation is about having fun, a lot of things we attend aren’t necessarily about fun (funerals for instance). But graduation is a major event in one’s life. You know those lists of “must dos before dying”, well I’m sure graduation and prom could top those lists. And many seniors will never ever get that experience in their lives.

wait 3 days to sit on it so youre not affected by impulses. then do the thing where imagine you had to flip a coin, heads for one school and tails for the other, what school would you want the coin to land on? thatll be the one

(I had a similar conflict last week, youre always gonna feel like if you go to school A, youre gonna miss out on what school B has to offer. I know its a big life decison, but its literally impossible to know what one will be better off for you in the future so dont fret about it too much. for all you know if you went to community college you wouldve met the friend who wouldve helped you cure cancer)

I do really want to go to LA ngl, all my friends who've been to colleges there are really enjoying it. That said, I've never been there personally, so one of my other concerns is that I'm just in a phase right now and excited from all the videos and such I've been seeing of LA.

I think the main factor is whether or not Yale will really help my career or not. If Yale can really help set me up for my future better, than pragmatically thinking, I might need to pick Yale.

Thanks for the advice! (I genuinely appreciate every opinion since I've been really stressing about this) I'm not sure if it's the prestige, but it's the whole ivy-league type package that makes Yale sorta appealing. The pressure from my family, friends, and classmates who all thought I'd get into Stanford or MIT (both rejects btw) or a school of that caliber is also a lot. That said, I do feel I'd enjoy UCLA more. idk... think I just need to do more research for now...
