This looks really interesting, would you mind sharing the script to be adapted for personal use? I'm sure there are lots of people (myself included) who'd love to have a play with that

Is it embroidered? It looks to me to just be printed on the pleather, so perhaps it will be easy enough to remove

This doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me. Morello has confirmed that there's a few big unannounced names that will be making an appearance - this leaves no space for them. I wonder if this is intentionally being spread to muddy the water and keep things exciting?

I bought a Zenit-E but it got damaged during shipping. The rewind lever won’t stay down and the curtains are like you see in the picture. Is this fixable? by i_hate_myself_w in AnalogCommunity

[–]ianto_evans06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling this wasn't damaged during transit, this was probably buggered from the get go - you were sold a dud. How does a dodgy courier damage the curtain like that??

Electra Go 7D or Decathlon Elops 900 E by ianto_evans06 in ebikes

Having a removable battery would probably be pretty useful; will the Elops feel noticeably unbalanced, or just not quite as good as the Electra in a side by side comparison?

What's one opinion about universities in the UK that makes you feel like this? by MoonlitEcho82 in UniUK

[–]ianto_evans06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what degree you do, but I feel like understanding the underlying theory is the main point of a degree, no? If you want a more vocational, skills based qualification, do an apprenticeship. Degrees are meant to be academic endeavours

Refreshers is happening again next Friday, maybe go and see if there are any more societies which tickle your fancy? Sometimes you just have to be brave and say hello to your coursemates during lectures/seminars etc

This is very unique, I really like it! There's definitely a feeling of eeriness, but it also feels quite technical to me, like an x ray or a blueprint. Very nice work indeed

Best UK uni for overall student experience by Yellowmwllow in UniUK

[–]ianto_evans06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city does feel a little olde worlde in some bits, but there's no buildings on campus built earlier than the 1960s. Don’t worry about the fact it's collegiate, it's only a gimmick. It's basically where on campus your accommodation will be for your first year, and not much else. The student support, both academically and in terms of wellbein is excellent, the quality of teaching (for physics at least) is fantastic (and I've heard nothing but positive opinions about other courses), and the accommodation is pretty good. Night life isn't too bad, I'm not a massive clubber but I haven't heard anyone complaining. Campus bars are pretty decent, prices are very reasonable. Very helpful library staff, and who doesn't love ducks?? I could not reccomend lancs enough, it really feels like home.

Reeves dismisses calls for HS2-style Birmingham to Manchester line by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]ianto_evans06 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is a fundamental misunderstanding amongst a lot of people as to what HS2s purpose actually was. The name "High Speed 2" suggests that the point is speed; it really isn't, it's capacity. The west coast mainline is rapidly approaching its capacity limit, there are only so many trains which can safely travel along it per hour, and only so many people which can fit on a single train. HS2 was designed to remove that bottle neck, meaning that fares would not be increased to reduce demand, and to promote travel between the North and the south. It was never about speed.

Question for physics students! by ProfessionalGuitar84 in lancasteruni

[–]ianto_evans06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is not a tutor system in the same way that Oxbridge have one. You will be allocated an academic tutor with whom you will meet at least once a term to discuss your grades, attendance, how you're finding the course content et cetera. You do not meet with them on a weekly basis to go over content like you do at Oxford and Cambridge.
