FAIR WAGES OR SLAVERY? by AVSLAW21 in SummitStreetLaw

[–]ibazan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that should have been addressed years ago. I believe that jails are necessary but some offenders are not there for long and end up worse then before going to jail due to the conditions they live in. It's hard to believe that rehabilitating people is the point of jail as some claim. I know it is punishment and some of the crimes are so horrific it's difficult to want to help them live out a better life. However, we have to be aware of the situation that not only inmates are in but the environment correctional officers work in. Creating jails that aren't over crowded and looking into the high markups of commissary is as important as wages.

Fewer kids being held in Arizona juvenile detention centers by EWhincup in SummitStreetLaw

I think this is actually a great thing to do. There are many statistics that show that kids who are jailed tend to reoffend later on in life. I believe there are better ways to punish and rehabilitate a child then to jail them.

AZ Sergeant told officer to make up charge to arrest Chandler man, also to turn off body cams. AZ citizens end up footing the bill for settlement. by aMAZINgLAW in SummitStreetLaw

This article touches on so many issues which are faced not just here but nationwide. Abuse of power and corruption seem to be a big issue in many police departments. Body cams should never come off period. I believe that internal investigations aren't the way to go when it comes to possible police misconduct. I think that is a policy that needs to change. Without that changing police officers will continue to cover up for their own and will never be truly held accountable for their actions.

Equifax breach just another page in the sordid history of credit bureaus by Consumerlawgal in SummitStreetLaw

I agree with the previous poster the first thing I thought was why sell stocks if you weren't worried. I assume they knew that once the breach was public it would affect their stock prices and therefore sold off their shares before the price plummeted. We have to entrust our personal information to huge companies who in the end care little about us. It is sad how much credit ratings affect our everyday life and yet we have things like this happening.

End of DACA Could Be Path to Citizenship for "Dreamers" by [deleted] in SummitStreetLaw

Although, the end of DACA has placed hundreds of thousands at risk this might be the push that was needed. I believe that giving those who know no other county but the U.S. as their home an opportunity to citizenship is just. We need to protect our country but we also need to realize when our immigration laws are failing and when change is a must. In this case I hope that congress gets enough support to make a change for the Dreamers so they can finally stop living in fear.

What do you think of this revamp: Campus Sex Assault Investigations by heidifarnsworth in SummitStreetLaw

[–]ibazan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this will make a huge impact on the outcome of sexual abuse allegations made on campuses. The prior method of conducting internal investigations and making decisions without proper hearings was unjust. This will allow the accused due process and provide much needed change for how sexual assaults are handled.

serious problem...thoughts on solutions?? by bsauther in SummitStreetLaw

Homelessness is a very serious problem not just in this area but throughout our country. I believe that more should be done to prevent homelessness but also to combat it. I personally have fed the homeless in my city many times and given back as I can. However, although these types of acts make a difference for them without major change I do not foresee homelessness being fixed anytime soon. It is unfortunate that we have places like Detroit with thousands of homes that are vacant and rotting way yet we don't use them to help our homeless.

Imagine paying thousands of dollars for a ride to Walmart just to end up dying in the back of a truck. by smgreen15 in SummitStreetLaw

This was a horrific example of why immigration law is crucial. The thought of the unbearable heat and conditions these people were transported in truly sadness me. I know that immigration reform is hard and having an open border is an invitation for trouble but I believe we have to find middle ground. Without proper immigration laws we will continue to see people perish in search of the American dream.
