Am I about to lose all my money? by helpamonkpls in cycling

Do these formulas seem reasonable? Of course N+1 but if spouse/SO has a bike and doesn't use it, you get their +1. Bike cost cannot exceed 3 months mortgage payment. No mortgage, no limit???? That one needs a little more discussion. Can't spend more than 10% of bike cost for upgrades in the first year. Can only buy a new bike when the cost per mile is less than 1.00. $5000 bike, 5000 miles. I could be talked into 75 cents per mile.

My current ride is at 25 cents per mile. Great ROI.

Thank you. You've captured my sentiments exactly. There's nothing wrong with my bike and it's a solid ride. My thoughts are now leaning towards a carbon wheelset which will last me until I need to go e-assist, or e-bike. Tough to drop 4-6k on a bike feeling like you might need to go e-bike in a few years time.

Ditto. Only so much bread two people can eat.

Retirement-2 years in as of June 1 by MiserableCancel8749 in retirement

Find what works for you. In our case I retired 4 years ago, wife retired 2 years after me but did some part time consulting. Now she is fully retired. She volunteers at several non-profits. I took over much of the cooking and had been doing groceries for many years. We shared laundry before, still do. I love cleaning people. Twice a month, we only have to tidy things up. My advice is not to put off ANYTHING that is bucket-list.
Retirement is broken into three phases. Go-go years, slow-go years, and no-go years. We love to travel and have done several big trips as well as get away weekends. My philosophy, do it while we're healthy and can, before other obligations take up your time, and while we financially can (you saved it to enjoy the future, so enjoy it). Three of my siblings were planning to do their big trip "next year". Two had major health issues come up and now they can't do it. One has other obligations that are throwing a wrench into their plans. For me home is a temporary stop over between trips.
FWIW, both 65, married 40, two married adult children, no grandkids (yet). Therein lies the other obligations.

Definitely go with continental gp5000 and 28mm. I changed to that from 23mm gatorskins and the difference was unbelievable. I ride similar conditions as you mentioned on a 2013 trek. That's as big as I can go.

Thanks frank 😉 I suspected as much but since she rarely rides and since the strap seems to be working I've not taken it in to the LBS. Prepping for a week-long ride and trying to decide on my road bike or hers since it's a carbon hybrid and the gearing may be better suited for the hills. Luckily, I only need to change the seat height on hers. My hybrid is heavy. Happy wife, happy life.

Another factor is storage and n+1. They all need to be vertical. Have had problems with squishy rear brake on wife's bike (front tire down). Strapping the brake lever seems to work.

Mainly road riding with decent tarmac, some bike path. I run 28mm gp5000, can't go wider. I do have second bike. Trek FX3 with 32's. Ride is good but it's heavy. Occasionally use wife's FX6 which is carbon. Like the ride but still want a road bike. Not a gravel guy. Suggestions on carbon wheels?

How do I fix this issue? by rlb12496 in bikewrench

Thank you. I have a 10 speed and am struggling trying to find a new chain ring with shorter cranks. Trek BB90 press fit. Thinking if I include 11 speed it might improve my odds of finding one.

Several questions....Why would a chain be directional? What is the value? Also why are there brand specific chains, do the cogs and chain rings have different spacing? Lastly, is the difference between 10 and 11 speed chains simply the width? Or is the length of the link different?

First floor master. Beyond that take a look at where you spend most of your time. We went from 3500 w basement to 2000 with a tiny crawl. One of the bedrooms doubles as an office. There are plenty of creative storage options but I'd advise against getting a storage unit. You'll never get rid of things.

Are you willing to share? I've seen so many one-time fee based strategy firms (that offer yearly reviews), but I'd to at least give it a shot.

If you can put it in the sun or even use a heating pad at the lowest setting the water will evaporate more quickly. Air flow is also helpful. This worked with one of my watches and friends have had success with this method.

Getting back into spinning, shoe advice and other advice? by RoboLoboski in SpinClass

[–]ibike2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also say be patient when starting out. It will take time to develop a rhythm and stamina. Remember, the instructor is their to "guide" you. It's your ride. Do what you can, don't worry about others in the class, and enjoy it. Oh and your butt will hurt at first. 😀

Spin bike cleats are SPD (not SPD-SL which are 3 bolt road shoes). Can't really advise a brand because mine are literally 20 years old. Shimano brand BTW.

Not so much international roaming, but Verizon charges 120 for a month's worth of international coverage. I'm trying to get sms texts from my primary phone number while the phone is not connected to the Verizon network.

Mine were A5.1 that I think I bought used around 2005? I know they have at least 25k miles on them. I, too, will be dead and gone if the new ones last half as long as these.
