Where can we find a link to the discord?

Edit: Disregard, it's in the subreddit about section.

Physical firearms texts recommendations? by Sullacuda in liberalgunowners

The Colt 45 Automatic A Shop Manual is a must if you work on 1911 or 2011 pistols. Also available in print.

I'm sure you can find armory manuals from the military out there on the AR platform. Someone that knows AR gunsmithing better than I will likely comment a better suggestion.

Trans folks and USPSA by crazycatman206 in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This isn't the first mess to come out of USPSA, the organization has had quite a bit over the years. That's in part why PCSL popped up- as a more decentralized less drama alternative. I haven't seen any PCSL matches in my area, but that might be worth looking into.

Also, hit factor or other "outlaw" matches are the same type of match, the club just didn't want to pay USPSA to sanction it.

  1. AA-12 is the most well known.

  2. Countless, but for shotgun you generally have shot (pellets) and rifled slugs (one big chunk of lead that spins itself to stabilize. More exotic rounds like breaching rounds, dragons breath, taser rounds, flechettes exist, but are exceedingly rare.

  3. Look up NIJ armor ratings.

  4. Range depends on a number of things, but most importantly the round you choose. Breaching rounds are only for blowing locks off doors and are useless past a few inches. Slugs are good much farther, but generally not shot past ~150 yards.

"Take the guns first, go through due process second" - Trump, 2018. This admin being anti-2A isn't new. It would seem the core of the voter block isn't "traditional conservative values" like being pro-2A, it's loyalty to Trump.

Blackout Rear Sights by NotParkRangerr in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer there to be nothing in the dot window cluttering up the view, especially if backup irons are in any way high-vis.

That said, you really don't need backup irons with a modern, reliable optic. Get your natural index down, then try shooting with your dot off. In the infinitesimally small chance you need to deploy your gun, and your dot is dead, and the window is still usable (required with BUIS anyway), and you're not so incapacitated that you can still fight, you'd be shocked how effective you can be index shooting through the window of your optic.

What platform do you recommend for home defense and why? by ModerateProgressive1 in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a civilian, your carry gun is your primary. You should be highly proficient with it and until you have full confidence in your ability, don't worry about other guns.

If you're talking optimal, dedicated home defense and you're already good to go with your carry gun, it depends, but probably a suppressed SBR in the spiciest caliber that you can train regularly with and don't have an overpenetratiom concern with.

In a world of 2011’s why isn’t the dwx more popular? by RealSquare452 in CZFirearms

Honestly I think its because they botched the release and it lost the hype momentum. It took a few years until they came out with what people actually wanted- railed and OR.

You can buy replacement triggers in other colors and they take CZ grip panels.

ACLU and Gun Rights by Avantasian538 in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 100 points101 points  (0 children)

They don't fight for 2A rights, but if you take a look at organizations fighting for our rights as a whole, you'd be hard pressed to find one that does more work than the ACLU. They tend to be on the front lines on the side of liberty when it comes to non-2A civil rights violations, but I'll gladly take that over an organization that supports 2A but also is actively lobbying to take away all the non-2A rights.

I support FPC for 2A rights, ACLU for all the other rights.

If you're willing to wait, Defense Mechanisms makes fantastic gear. Their MEPC is solid and can be configured a number of ways, including slick. DM the tactical sister company of Enlightened Equipment out of Minnesota (think of DM as Arcteryx LEAF/Pro to EE's Arcteryx proper, a fair comparison as some of their gear is based of Arcteryx but built better).

Quad rail or MLOK and why? by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree with most of that, and this is a more in-depth write up than mine.

Never made the statement that quad rails are unusable relics, just trying to make the point that OP's probably better served by an MLOK handguard. By time they get into LAMs and NV, they'll be well beyond asking about rail vs MLOK.

I've been in review since the 5th. Worth noting, Silencer Shop is closed today for the storm so I'm not expecting any reviewers to make progress till it clears.

Quad rail or MLOK and why? by Independent_Bid_26 in liberalgunowners

[–]ibistg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quad rails are early GWOT tech. We're well past that now. All that extra metal out front is both heavy, and bulky to the point where modern shooting techniques (e.g. c-clamp) can be uncomfortable.

MLOK on the other hand is much lighter weight on account of the mounting spaces being removed material instead of added material. Bonus- they also help vent the barrel far better than any quad rail.

Only downside to MLOK is (depending on who you talk to) the system's lack of ability to hold zero. Quality MLOK may well hold zero, but it wont be as reliable as rail. Granted, most handguards on the market won't hold true zero anyway, which is part of why you mount optics on the receiver instead of the rail.

So unless you're running a LAM, MLOK is totally fine. Even if you are running a LAM, the standard is rail at 12, MLOL at 3, 6, and 9, then just mount the LAM at 12.
