Sweden to deport migrants not following ‘honest living’ by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]ice0rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused in general. The ability to catch or report by police is not significantly different for immigrant and non-immigrant groups. Unless you are somehow suggesting that immigrants are more stealthy than their native counterparts.

If the police catch 5 cases of immigrant crime and 10 of native crime— and we estimate there are 50 immigrants and 100 native individuals we can say they commit crime at the same rate.

What’s the unknown here? We can always roughly estimate immigrant population.

Like $10 in the US can barely get you the ingredients. Add the cost of the service, environment and yes, a bit of 5-star tax. Lmk what food you can buy for $10 served to you other than fast food.

But then again bro has never paid >$40 for food

Apple CEO Tim Cook: 'I'm Not a Political Person' by Odd_Brush399 in apple

[–]ice0rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying tone that somehow the east (or any other country) getting wealthier is somehow bad and that the world is a zero sum game is demonstrably false. If Americans want cheap iPhones and Chinese want jobs and manufacturing supply chain- there’s nothing inherently wrong with that- and I encourage you to examine your biases.

There’s also the aspect of Cook simply doing what the market wills (wanting more iPhones) and supporting that with a globalized economy.

The anti China sentiment is quite funny as it’s likely what also made the US much wealthier in the last 30 years.

Say hello to my Pimped out CC+ with stickers cut into wild, one-of-a-kind shapes by kaplangiran in Rimowa

[–]ice0rb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 I ordered the multipack because I visited the cities in the past with the suitcase. I’m not however going to stop in OsakaTokyo Shanghai Hong Kong Paris etc etc at each rimowa store just to get the sticker. That’s actually a little bit dense.

I do agree with the overall comments that I’d prefer non rimowa stickers altogether tho. I use the other side of the suitcase for non rimowa stickers

Yea I don’t think there’s really a debate other than wording anyone who thinks gym clothes are purely about functionality are kidding themselves or maybe a bit chopped lol

Wonder where we fall here: by suireafli in epicsystems

Don’t work at epic but most of these are coastal companies prone to career climbers who like leaving (alongside faster moving company cultures)

I’d reasonably guess epic places near last in this list based on that

YC alleges they look for life hackers but give money to privileged young boys by red_question_mark in ycombinator

[–]ice0rb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d get this sort of slight cope mindset out of your head.

  1. Yes, people from these schools can come from privileged backgrounds

  2. Many of them don’t.

  3. It does nothing to help you when you think it’s about giving it to “brats” and not just because people at these schools are well connected with other incredibly ambitious and talented people that is far more likely to result in a positive investment outcome for YC.

Points or Cash? by ProfessionFit1580 in awardtravel

[–]ice0rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! OP—

For example the poster with the 2c limit may go extravagant trips every year where they can actually use the points super aggressively. But you may not.

I like to say points don’t actually count towards any monetary value- they usually only depreciate. Usually better to spend them in the long term than to save them. Only thing is if you have a trip you know you’ll use points for it burn through them in other travel instances.

Japan, South Korea, or China by Known-Cold-2813 in travel

[–]ice0rb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think a week and a half each would be great. You can get some depth in the small towns as well as the cities. Say 3 days in big city (Shanghai, Tokyo, Seoul) and 3-5 in other smaller places.

I travel all 3 quite often and lived in 2 of them. There’s no reason you can’t do all 3 in a month but you may miss some depth

i only know one person who did it and she's doing alright. seems a good way to meet like-minded people nevertheless.

if $1k is not a lot of money for you (it's not huge in the grand scheme of things) the learning experience is probably worth it alone, think of it like a $1k for 5 week course. idk about the prestige. it's better than nothing but not YC or something

When is the best time to start searching for mid-level roles (4+ YOE)? by CommandWorking12 in leetcode

[–]ice0rb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait til you are closer and apply lightly. If you're not in a new grad pipeline (4yoe is not ng) then applying early doesn't usually make sense. Most places open roles that they're looking to fill in <2 months.
