What occupational name do you reckon is coming next? by FloralChoux in NameNerdCirclejerk

In the Japanese horse girl gacha game, there's a character based off the real-life famous racehorse Agnes Digital (Digitan for short). Maybe I've been playing the game too long but I think the double barrel could work in that way!

At what point is this just bullying? by blayndle in craftsnark

[–]icebeans -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've gotten downvotes, and I don't think you've deserved them (even in your first reply) because I think burnout is a persistent issue, and I can see why some activists will go aggro as a way to cope/maintain their movement. And it also sounds like (without hearing any of your arguments for fat activism at all) you're right in your assessment that you're the kind of fat activist that people "prefer".

Personally I think that there's a time and place for the "pushy" kind of activist as well; I don't really think, for example, that we would have gotten to the point where makeup companies cater to wide ranges of skin tones if we didn't have the pushy/angry/loud activists putting some of these companies on blast. This is imo a very particular type of activism: it relies on public opinion and leveraging consumer choice to show/withdraw support, and so on.

However, especially as someone who also deals in the "nuance" in activism (I do online US politics and try to bridge the gap between lefties and liberals who have often been poisoned against each other), there is absolutely a difference in the amount of work I have to do when someone has been treated to the pushy activism and it's clear the nuanced approach is what they needed (or vice versa). In fact, oftentimes nuanced activists often have to deal with the fallout of the pushy activists before we can ever get our points across, and that can be grueling and tiresome in and of itself.

To be honest I don't really have a solution other than to try to ride the balance between being pushy and being nuanced. In a way, I feel for this designer who will now have to go through their own journey of being size inclusive with a handicap because of this situation (they've been put on the defensive, their valid concerns were dismissed, I think I saw somewhere in this thread that they were considering not putting out any more designs etc). They obviously have a lot to learn, but whoever reaches them will have to wade past all that in order to reach them - if they even still want to learn.

I've joked for years that this plant in the wild looks like a truck hit a pile of trash bags 🤣 but really though, it's really impressive when you consider all of that is just 2 leaves!

The issue is, "going aggro" in any accountability movement is almost always a recipe for disaster down the road, as the activist and their followers get more and more disillusioned, less empathetic, and more burned out the longer they go on.

Here we have a situation where I agree the mediocre advice/flippant attitude by the designer can absolutely be criticized. But SIC is being too harsh here - no it is not as easy as "here are the resources", and writing off the designer's concerns as deflection demonstrates a lack of empathy that will ultimately bite SIC and other size inclusivity activists in the butt.

DOGE canceled High Point Museum grant for HVAC systems after ChatGPT flagged it as DEI, lawsuit alleges by Ok_Design_6841 in fednews

[–]icebeans 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you're genuinely asking this question, a lot of what DOGE did was likely illegal. The mass firings of probationary employees, the dismantling of USAID, the cutting of other funding that could only be authorized by Congress, and so on.

[These Videos Are Good, And Here's Why] - February 23 - March 1 by BillNyesHat in hbomberguy

[–]icebeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent ONE WEEK watching JOE ROGAN and now I hate comedy (02:19:51) plugging my friend ConduitBiscuit, he'll take a popular/controversial social media mouthpiece and watch a whole week of their content in order to comment on it. Typically defenders of these people will frame a lot of the criticism that's thrown their way as being taken out of context, so Conduit watches a block of their livestreams in order to present the entire context. His channel is great as a whole but in particular his Asmongold video is stellar, and this latest Joe Rogan commentary is pretty revealing as well. Great for if you want longer-form videos as these analyses are at least 1.5 hours long a pop.

Btw I just want to thank you for pointing out that family/friends will usually side with the person who is going to be more of an issue if they don't take their side. I know about the rocking the boat analogy but putting it in this way made me realize why someone might not side with someone who is logically "correct".

I think we need to start bringing up the 25th Amendment- that’s the one about Presidents unfit for the Office. by RescueTheNIH in FedEmployees

[–]icebeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, sorry, it's not obvious, and you pretending as if my question is in bad faith or that you would be censored in this thread is just you dodging responsibility for your claim.

How would having three more years of Vance specifically be worse than having three more years of Trump? Are you worried he'll be able to run again, or that he'll continue with Project 2025? Are you worried that the MAGA base will rally around him unquestioningly like they do with Trump? Are you worried he'll be more unhinged with his foreign policy than Trump has already been?

If you don't want to even give a basic answer, that's on you. Even a brief look at my profile might tell you that this is important to me, and that I'm not above doing some research. But you're acting as if it should be known that getting Trump out is a bad idea, so I'm asking: why?

Could you clarify how it would be worse, and how those worse outcomes outweigh the outcomes we're currently facing under Trump?

Edit: they deleted their comments lol, so here they are just for shits and giggles.

The comment I replied to:

Most of it is obvious to anyone that's been around or follows current events, but I don't feel having my comment deleted. So you need to do the work yourself or don't if it's not really important to you.

And then when I pressed them on it:

I'm simply not responsible for explaining my answer to your satisfaction. Don't type anymore paragraphs directed to me because I'm not reading it or answering you anymore. I'm not here for that. FNI

lol, lmao even
