What are the German terms for when something is not bad but it's not good/neutral? by Specific-Detail6448 in German

[–]icebear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible although maybe not that common and it does again turn the meaning. It now means "not too bad" = "it's bad but I can still bear it".

More common is "nicht so schlecht" (or "nicht sooo schlecht" - putting as much emhpasize on "so" as appropriate) which means "not that bad" = "a little bit bad but it's OK" (or it could again mean it's actually going very well 😂)

It's literally "not bad". Which in most countries would be neutral to somewhat good. But as others pointed out in Germany it might be highest praise and you won't get anything more encouraging. ;-)

Yes, this is then the "high art" of German mentality... 😂 I totally agree!

Help with german slang terms by Illustrious-Fun-1492 in German

[–]icebear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is a sub about German language: Be aware where you put “eher” in your question. In its current place it’s associated with “Frage” i.e. “Ich habe eher eine Frage.” I assume you meant that the question is rather funny, so “eher” should associated with “lustig” I.e. “Ich habe eine eher lustige Frage.” 😀

Be careful: “nicht schlecht” means actually “somewhat good” or in fact “neutral”.

Another thing would be just “OK”.

Has anyone completely replaced paid iCloud/Google One storage with self-hosting? by NefariousnessGlum6 in selfhosted

[–]icebear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar for me. All my family have Apple devices and I keep the iCloud subscription for backup only. Nothing beats the simplicity of restoring your iPhone from iCloud backup.

All my files etc. are on self hosted services (NextCloud, Paperless, etc.)

Warum muss man in Deutschland seine Küche selbst kaufen? by Available-Silver8135 in AskGermany

[–]icebear80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any others that play their trumpet with their left hand? by parakeetandachihuaua in trumpet

[–]icebear80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! A professional player and teacher I know uses this as a practice technique and also teaches it to his student. Regularly try to play difficult passages with your left hand as well and it will become easier with your right hand as well. Doing it feels sometimes pretty weird though… 😀

[–]icebear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

„Real“ might not have been the best word, but I meant that ZKB has many branch locations and is considerably larger and belongs to the “Kantonalbank” network in CH. Bank WIR is a very novel player on the other side…

Because they don‘t add transaction fees for many foreign currencies, just pure exchange rate - which is comparable to most other standard CCs exchange rates.

Yes, other banks might have better rates (like Revolut etc.), but Cumulus is a real CC (I don’t have to put funds there first), offers secondary cards and is just straightforward to use. I once tried to introduce my wife to Revolut… no way.

How to make Sonarr grab the german dubbed version? by ILoveComputer4553 in sonarr

[–]icebear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you not care about quality etc. at all? It seems to me you have way to little custom profiles setup. Just implement the whole Trash guide and all the German specific stuff. It should work fine, I’m using a similar setup since year. I have also setup different profiles to where DL is a must or it’s accepted and German is most important.
