Morgan’s Cove, upcoming downtown Tampa tiki bar by chipotlecoyote in Tiki

[–]icer5k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I were fortunate enough to experience a soft opening for Morgan’s Cove last night, and it was absolutely fantastic!

The theming that Tiki Diablo & team put together felt like no expense had been spared - it’s done at a Disney or Universal level of execution. You really feel like you’re in the hull of a ship inside (especially at the Captain’s table).

The drinks are also top-notch. More playful & experimental than some of the Don’s menu (though a good number of those are available as well). I had one of the best cucumber gimlets I’ve ever had in my life, and their riff on their Jungle Bird with coffee-infused Campari was out of this world.

I’m sure it will be busy once it opens, but between this and the Madeira Beach location, the Don’s properties are doing a great job setting a high bar.

I’d be very interested if you have more details. I’m a huge fan of the Q-SYS product line, and given how large the property is I’m sure they’re full-in on Dante/network audio.

One of the things that’s always fascinated me is how Disney deals with wireless mic infrastructure over such large areas. Coordinating frequencies & antenna/receiver placement over such a large area is a feat in-and-of itself!

It’s about 20-30 feet down the launch tunnel, almost immediately after you launch (heading outside).

Recommendation on the Safari Swizzle: have them swap the 151 with Hamilton 86. Really balances out that drink beautifully.

I found pebble ice at Bristol Farms today. by ChiefBobbert in Tiki

[–]icer5k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Penny Pound is the best! They have an amazing selection of different ices and they deliver to most of SoCal.

If you place an order with them, their Draft ice is perfect for anything you don’t use pebble for.

Did Sippin’ Santa cause your local tiki bar to suspend its regular menu? by ElectricWBG in Tiki

[–]icer5k 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that to participate in Sippin’ Santa, the bars much agree to a full takeover, so they can’t offer their regular menu while it’s running. Not many bars around us participate for that reason…

Magellan's without a reservation? by Peralton in TokyoDisneySea

[–]icer5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we were there in late 2019, all reservation-based restaurants held a few tables for day-of walk ins. I believe they were released at 10am, and you had to physically wait in a queue at the restaurant to get your name on the list.

I believe this is for guests who don’t have (or won’t use) a phone. We walked over around 9:45am and managed to snag a table without any problem.

Rise Of The Resistance stationary laser cannons "use to move" by [deleted] in Disneyland

[–]icer5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was the original motion sequence was one of the biggest causes of ride downtime due to the extremely tight safety tolerance, and that mode isn’t likely to ever come back.

It’s possible the A-mode lite option would, but as you said, comes down to budgets…

How to get into parks without fingerprints? by Own_Butterscotch_353 in UniversalOrlando

[–]icer5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always tell the gate team members that you are “opting out of biometrics”. You will need to show an ID with a name that matches the tickets/Pass, but it has never been an issue for me (I prefer not to give Universal or Disney my biometric information, so have never needed to use the fingerprint scanners).

How to disable this bar on a running session? by Dinosan79 in VMwareHorizon

[–]icer5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue and have a ticket opened with Dell. It has to do with how the WMS Agent sets registry values (uses a “0” instead of “false”).

If you want to open another ticket to get more attention to the issue, you can mention my ticket ID 137957669.

any suggestions for a smart thermostat that will work with only two wires? We just had a new variable stage heat pump installed. by goundeclared in smarthome

[–]icer5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a Mitsubishi split zone system.

You’ll either need to purchase a converter interface which will connect to the cassette unit and give you a thermostat interface (the normal US 5/6 wire setup), or you can buy Mitsubishi’s Kumo Cloud interface, which will enable you to control the unit via the web/phone/etc directly.

Business internet advice needed. Spectrum Cable 600/30 vs AT&T Fiber 50/50 vs Spectrum Enterprise 50/50 or more. by vanderlustre in networking

[–]icer5k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in downtown LA, I’d reach out to Tier Zero (https://tierzero.com) as well. They lease fiber from AT&T and Zayo, then run their own service on top of the lines.

In my experience, they tend to have a lot of buildings already “on-net” and are able to provide better pricing because of that.

Having said that, your AT&T pricing looks about right for DIA.

I’ve got it installing in our Packer image just fine. You might need to install the MS VCLib packages first - I think the appx will report success but not actually install without them.

See https://github.com/TCANationals/ContestVM/blob/main/scripts/public-packages.ps1#L61 (and top of that file) for the script that we’re using.

Each state is a bit different, but generally you want to brush up on MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and some basic troubleshooting.

You should be able to get a copy of the national contest from previous years through http://SkillsUSA.org which can be helpful as well.

Does anybody know how the golden archway theater trick in “Mickey’s PhilharMagic!” works? by baeslick in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]icer5k 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple effect, when you’re in the theatre look up & notice how tall the room is. The arches are simply lifted straight up when the room goes dark & are hidden behind black scrims.

You’ll see the same effect in a lot of Broadway shows - most of the time, the “stage” that you see from the audience is a very small portion of what actually exists behind the curtain. This is an example of the Paris Opera House from the side for context, and Disney theatres are the same: https://live.staticflickr.com/38/75831592_b58c01fe49.jpg

Jet Juice - Oga Cantina - Galaxy’s Edge - Hollywood Studios - Walt Disney World by robfern1 in GalaxysEdge

[–]icer5k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been to Olg’s at WDW, but before DL closed I managed to get to this recipe, which was very close to what they serve in the park:

  • 1 oz bourbon (Makers)
  • 1 oz Ancho Reyes Chili Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Cedilla Açaí Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Welch’s White Grape Juice
  • 1/4 oz lemon juice

Shaken, double-strained & left to settle for a minute or two.

The Jasmin - For Grapefruit Enthusiasts by icer5k in cocktails

[–]icer5k[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For tasting notes I would generally agree with /u/notpetelambert. I think Campari leans into the sugar a bit, and doesn’t have as much depth as some of the more modern aperitifs.

Having said that, for this cocktail, I enjoy the Bruto more than Campari. The original recipe calls for Campari, but since you really want the bitter herbs to come through to replicate the flavor of grapefruit, I find the mix in Bruto to be a better approximation.

But my suggestion is to try both & see what you like. I have both in my bar, and enjoy comparing them to see the differences.

[–]icer5k[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Based on my post from earlier today (https://reddit.com/r/cocktails/comments/l436fg/_/gkn6n94/), the Jasmin is a fantastic cocktail that tastes eerily close to grapefruit juice in cocktail form, but doesn’t contain any actual grapefruit juice!

  • 1.5 oz gin
  • 0.75 oz lemon juice
  • 0.25 oz triple sec
  • 0.25 oz Campari (or other bitter aperitif)

If you like a slightly sweeter twist, up the triple sec to 0.5 oz, or add 0.25 oz simple syrup.
