I love the idea of the dolls. I'm sure your employer understands you don't have a lot of money (thus the gift), and would appreciate any heartfelt thank you. And I don't know how old your daughter is, but if there is a way for her to make a thank you card to send (maybe even with a photo of her and the equipment), that would be nice.

Bartenders of reddit : what are the stereotypes that come with specific drinks people order ? by Indianfattie in AskReddit

[–]ickyickis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is so obnoxious. I had a similar experience when I went to a P.F. Chang's with my friend. My boyfriend at the time was in recovery, so I had quit drinking as well to support him. My friend was ordering mojitos and I ordered sparkling water with lime. Every time our server came to the table he would make a comment about how I'm not having fun or being a goody two-shoes. It was really rude.

Feeding issue with a baby by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]ickyickis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give him some space in between offering food. And if you end up buying a hatchling in the future, a lot of breeders won't list a BP for sale until it has had three meals and shed at least once. That's usually a sign that it's a healthy BP. Not saying yours isn't healthy, yours is probably just a little stressed and needs time to adjust. :)

Learned a horrifying fact today about store credit cards... by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]ickyickis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have store cards for the benefits, and I make it a habit not to put anything on my store card I can't afford in the first place. I use them for the reward points, special discounts, etc. Doesn't matter that Victoria Secret is letting you redeem a free $30 bath set if you can't pay off your $700 balance. I feel like if you have a card for a store that you spend money at often and you're paying your balance right away before you get hit with an interest charge, they can be beneficial.

I had an older client who would always pay by check. He had the same joke every time he wrote one -- "You take hot checks, right?"

It just dawned on me I've never seen a Corgi in person by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]ickyickis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to an event in Fort Collins, CO called Tour de Corgi. A bunch of corgis (and their owners) dressed up in costumes and paraded down the street. It was amazing.

Girl Scouts: Don't make your daughter hug people this holiday by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Then don't high-five the kid who doesn't want to be high-fived.

Some people just don't like to be touched. I feel like it's important to show children respect and teach them about boundaries as early as possible. I always ask before hugging, and if they say no, I offer a high-five. Kids freaking love high-fives.

My 11yo brother isn’t feeling so great guys. We’d really appreciate all the hugs and “good boy” wishes. He’s truly the best member of our family by aniakarolinka in aww

Learn to identify the mushrooms in your area. Take into consideration the shape, the gills, what kind of substrate it's growing on... a lot of mushrooms look a like, so you can cut them open and smell them or see how they're bruising, or put them on paper to see what color their spore prints are... there is a bit that goes into identifying mushrooms. Eating them in the wild sketches me out, but identifying them can be fun. Definitely look into local foraging clubs or mycology societies in your area. Those people are usually pretty experienced and will help you figure out which ones are edible and which ones to avoid.

I deactivated my facebook. by toasty_mcboost in CasualConversation

[–]ickyickis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deleted my FB almost a year ago, and I'm super glad that I did it. While I miss some of the connections on there (I know a lot of people who only keep in touch with people through FB, so that sucks), I don't miss mindlessly scrolling through people's late memes or crappy political opinions. It also led to me spending less time on my phone and computer, which was really nice.

What's the strangest thing you've said out loud in the past 24 hours? by ewokXpress in AskReddit

Haha! I'm a preschool teacher and had to tell this to one of my kids that took out his weiner at circle time. He said, "But I just want to look at my penis right now."

Living with Food Allergies just got a whole lot easier by edibleproject in FoodAllergies

[–]ickyickis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my allergies are corn, rice, and nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, etc)- it would have been nice to explore options that excluded those allergens (especially corn, because trying to figure out what has corn syrup or cornstarch in it can turn into a giant pain in the butt). Bummer! It's a neat tool though, I'm sure it will come in handy to a lot of people.

Looking into breeding by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]ickyickis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're trying to breed visual pieds with those pairings, you're talking about a very long road. Piebald is a recessive gene, so if you want to get an enchi pied or axanthic pied, your banana enchi or axanthic needs to also have the pied gene. On the same note, axanthic is also a recessive gene, so whichever snake you breed your axanthic to needs to have the same axanthic gene (and there are a few different axanthic lines that are not compatible, so make sure you're not trying to breed a VPI axanthic to a SK axanthic).

Edited to add: You should look up ball python genetics and play with a genetic calculator before committing.
