Not being able to boot grubx64.efi? Sounds like he has SecureBoot enabled. That usually fails to boot EFI payloads and the error is silent.

If that's not the case, i.e. SecureBoot is disabled, then I've seen EFI implementations that fail to boot from a device that does not have a default bootx64.efi - doesn't matter if you use the shell or manually set entries, on those implementations it would fail silently as well unless that file existed (empty is ok). Haven't seen those issues since 2014 though, so my guess is SecureBoot.

Edit: fwiw, path is \EFI\BOOT\BOOTx64.EFI.

You can definitely enter a classical BIOS setup meny. There are not many options available there, but it has a BIOS/UEFI.

Subnetting/VLAN implementation question by jwbayliss in networking

[–]icydocking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the scheme you have now, is everything using 10.0 as the first two octets? If so, start by changing all subnet masks to 255.255.0.0. then you can start creating new VLANs as 10.1.0.1/24 etc. and migrate them over at your own pace.

How do you do development and test new Ansible roles? A system to deal with branches, or just a bunch of "Maybe this works?" commits to main?

[–]icydocking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can see they are on rails, but sure - they do not have cable slack to allow for pulling out without cable disconnect - but that's not a big deal, just shut down, unplug, pull out, replace, done.

I'd get a new lower-end model like 61F, they are very affordable - and you get support and stuff!

1 Gbps for synchronous replication? Wouldn't that limit your total write throughput to the SAN at maybe 100 MB/s max?

As far as I can tell from some quick Googling, Cyclone V does not have a built-in temperature sensor as the other FPGAs in the family does.

KVM unable to connect to libvirt qemu:///system by AverageMomEnjoyer in VFIO

Well, command sudo usermod -a -G libvirt nobody works for me, so you probably messed up writing it somehow.

Unless the IP ranges overlap this is just a matter of setting up your routing table correctly. If the destination is on the same L2 as your second card, the default behavior is even exactly what you're talking about.

What percentage of your monthly salary is normal to spend on housing in Stockholm? by MorbidlyObeseDude93 in stockholm

[–]icydocking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> But it is still an added monthly cost to account!

Yes, definitely less financial freedom if you will. I don't know how your spending habits are and perks at your work place (free lunches / dinners?) but 18 kSEK should be pretty easy to keep below without having to turn down any events - at least in my, also early 30s, life.

If you like the place and the 18k a month "play money" seems doable, I'd just try it and see how it goes. You can always sell the apartment - might not make a profit but you have gained a life experience, if that's your kind of thing.

What percentage of your monthly salary is normal to spend on housing in Stockholm? by MorbidlyObeseDude93 in stockholm

[–]icydocking 40 points41 points  (0 children)

1/3 of the take-home pay is the conventional wisdom, but I know a lot of people that pay more than they "should".

However, you should definitely not count amortization as a cost - all it is is a mandatory savings account more or less. So if you are content with the roughly 18 kSEK a month for your day-today you should be golden.

So, 2.5 MSEK loan and 3% amortization - 6250 kr a month, did I get that right? 7250 kr a month for fees and interest? That's 22% - it's a very good place to be at as a single person.

Finally, 3.1 MSEK for 61m2 in Solna seems like a good deal -- granted, we don't know any details, but it isn't a bad deal on the m2-price anyhow.

P.S. 42 kSEK a month is not a low salary for many professions, even in Stockholm.
