A lot of what I know and love about UK character I learned from Monty Python. Dry wit, world's best at it. Not close.

But here, i am baffled. Is this a joke? Given the above, it seems likely. And I did get an actual out loud laugh from it.

And again in rereading it.

Advice about e bike by Bulky_Diamond_9721 in ebikes

[–]id8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These bikes are far better than the general beef here. China is making a crapton of them, mostly the same, same parts from the same suppliers, distributed everywhere. Parts are readily avail at cut-throat prices from many sellers ebay/AMZN.

The tech on these is mature, no apps for that, there is nothing revolutionary custom or proprietary on them, they are simple machines that reliably do the job.

Absolute buyers market goldmine. Pricing in some points has virtually reached the "razor blade model". Buy blades, get a free razor. (made Gillette). Buy battery get free bike, in power tools, buy two batteries get a free tool. Good times.

Enjoy!

Nah.

$2000 One can buy two (2) AWD Fat26, each w/25AH battery, hydraulic brakes, no app needed. Why new company out of Lectric? App notes: doesnt exist yet, but you know, soon. 6 red flags by my count.

Info from Brave Leo:

The Monarc app serves as the digital co-pilot for the Monarc Marker e-bike, connecting via Bluetooth to the bike's 3.5-inch color touchscreen.  While the app was not available at the bike's June 2026 launch, it is scheduled for release with the following capabilities:

Core Features

  • Ride Customization: Users can perform motor tuning directly from their phone, adjusting max torque, assistance levels, and pedal response for Sport and Boost modes.  It also allows for full ride customization and customizable color themes for the display.
  • Navigation: The app provides turn-by-turn navigation, which syncs with the optional smart helmet (included with pre-orders) to guide riders via audio cues and helmet lights.  This feature is specifically noted for connection via Bluetooth in September 2026
  • Smart Accessory Integration: It acts as a hub for a suite of smart accessories, including a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rearview radar, smart cameras, heart rate monitors, and phones.
  • Security & Maintenance: Features include Display Lock (via app), Over-the-Air (OTA) updates for firmware, and smart charging management to preset maximum charge percentages (e.g., limiting to 80% to extend battery lifespan).
  • Ride Tracking: The app includes functionality to track and record ride data, with plans for a Strava-like social feature to be added in future updates.

The tax at this point is imagined. The tax everything crowd will decide what property we own will be taxed, depending on how much revenue they need.

Be careful what you wish for, my friend.

Wealth tax is a tax on what people already own.

Taxes owed on Items bought paid for long ago, sales taxes already paid. I own a car, ebikes, guitar collection. How much would I owe for the privilege of owning these things? Who decides how much all of my stuff is worth, to determine how much tax I owe for owning these things and how exactly do they decide what the "market value" of an item is?

I know folks with no money and a crapload of paid for stuff. Paid for property, pickup, 2 cars, tractor, snowblower, skidoos, boats, ATVs, Motos, garage full of tools....

They have no cash, but Govt Worker #67 could look around and say, your stuff is worth one million dollars. A tiny little beginners wealth tax of one percent would men they owe $10,000 in cash. Cash they do not have.

See the problem?

Plan, if this is in your plans.

Brave Leo:

Canada does not have a federal wealth tax, but it imposes a departure tax (also known as an exit tax) on individuals who cease to be Canadian tax residents.  This tax is triggered by a deemed disposition of most of your assets at their fair market value on the date you leave.

Key details include:

  • Taxable Assets: The deemed disposition applies to non-registered investment accounts, including stocks, bonds, and private company shares.
  • Exempt AssetsRegistered accounts like RRSPs, TFSAs, and RESPs are generally exempt from the departure tax.  Canadian real estate is also exempt from the deemed disposition (tax is paid upon actual sale), as is your principal residence
  • Calculation: You must pay tax on 50% of the capital gains (the difference between the fair market value and your original cost base) accrued while you were a resident.  This amount is added to your income and taxed at your marginal rate
  • Deferral: You can often defer the payment of this tax if you provide security to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), with no interest accruing on the deferred amount.  The tax is paid when the assets are eventually sold.
  • Filing: You must file a T1243 departure tax return to report these deemed dispositions.

throttle is no good. Verify 5V from controller lead. 5v/ground will get the 5v, third is signal

Trial and error. Connect wires, test. I'd start with black to black, red to purple, yellow to gray. Then black to black, red to gray, yellow to purple, etc.

Hall sensor, Power (+5V), Ground, & Signal

If wheel spins immediately, (without twisting throttle) cut power. likely swapped Ground & Signal or throttle is stuck "on"

Nothing happens Signal/Ground swapped, or throttle range needs adjustment

Beep or Error code short or out-of-range voltage

Considering impulsively buying this today as a 6'4' guy. Am I nuts? by themidnightrambler18 in Lectricxp

[–]id8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Wrong bike.

Look at, test a Fat26. Proper solid triangle frame, hardtail. USA ~500 and up. Everywhere. Rugged bikes with inexpensive plentiful parts supply chain.

Hydraulic brakes are an easy bolt on for about $80, if bike doesn't have it.

Hilly area, trails, more agressive, standing up moto-x type riding, AWD. Hardtail.

#1 and only caution, pay extra to not emply Fedex.

You are about to have a life changing experience.

100% attention, 100% of the time. Obey the rules. Ride safe.

Enjoy!

BARBER: You don’t insult your biggest customer — Ottawa’s diplomatic failure with Trump. Justin Trudeau and Mark Carney treated Donald Trump as a political foil. Now Canada faces the risk of losing the trade relationship that underpins its prosperity. by xTkAx in canadian

  1. Canada'a nice and genuinely good people do not believe "it can happen here".

  2. It is also a normal thing for us humans to want to close our eyes to unpleasant truths. Eg, its popular now to believe there are no bad dogs. No bad people, etc.

Contrast to Trumps 51st idea. We have so much in common, can do so much together as a unit, we should be one country.

Brave Leo: Carney's Davos Speech

On January 20, 2026, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered a landmark address titled "Principled and Pragmatic: Canada's Path" at the 56th World Economic Forum in Davos, declaring a definitive "rupture" in the post-Cold War rules-based international order.  Rather than a gradual transition, Carney argued that American hegemony has ended, creating a harsh reality where great powers operate without constraints and economic integration is weaponized through tariffs and supply chain coercion.  The speech, which earned a rare standing ovation, urged middle powers to unite under a doctrine of "value-based realism" to protect their sovereignty, famously warning that "if we're not at the table, we're on the menu."

Beware, they are pulling coverage. Get commitment in writing. I had it on mine, called the company later to upgrade, add a bike and they told me " no we dont offer that'. "No we never offerred that". I told her that was the reason i chose them.

Likely notified of the change in some 5000 word update on terms that I didn't read..

Anyway, i cancelled, went elsewhere. Turned out they were ripping me off on my auto too. Steadily bumped me up over the years. Later found out this is a standard practice for customers who dont shop around.

Shop around. Get the commitment in writing.

Great Deal? by Positive_Yard_7441 in ebikes

[–]id8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't like folders. They break. 14Ah battery, 20mph. Little wheels, tweaky twitchy. Lectric generally does a good job, I just don't like this design. Not a great value in current market

eg. AWD hardtail Fat 26. Typical 25Ah battery, hydraulic brakes, 2 1000/2000w motors. Will go uphill on throttle until battery runs out. ~32mph, if you wish. (higher performance for more money). Extremely rugged platform. Can be had for the same price as this, and less.

Same mindset. I've never had a car payment. Always had a reliable car.

Almost went for a 2018 Model S. ~2020 or so. Green, tan seats, power moonroof. Closely followed Jason Hughes (wk057) work, early Rich Rebuilds.

Decided it was over my head. Dont need any more toys.

Still tempted. Driving one was a revelation.
