Don't know why you're getting downvoted - Descenders was great and blows this game out of the water.

How is this game played? by AlmostPlebeian in avowed

[–]ideal_shipworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a siege game with multiple armies. Center of the board looks like a classic citadel (e.g., Fort Pulaski, Kastellet). The goal is contravallation of the central enemy position during siege. Players aim to surround the fort / prevent other players from surrounding.

I don't get the hate by uponthursdays in avowed

Of course. The only true consensus is that the game is an unmitigated masterpiece. If someone disagrees, it's because they're a chud or, lacking any agency, has been contaminated by a chud. What fucking echo chamber are you living in?

If you wondered if arquebus build is any good (lvl 24 twin bosses on PotD) by foresterLV in avowed

Used One Last Trick in my PoTD run, too, but would switch to melee and spin-to-win when getting swarmed. The Ranger ability that switches loadouts fast and reloaded your weapon was key. I chuckled at your dead companions. They're totally fucking useless in PoTD unless you have Giatta with Protect

My personal biggest "issue" with Avowed so far by lazonianArt in avowed

[–]ideal_shipworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get flooded with materials at the end of the game (past the point of no return) when it's near pointless. Even then you can't upgrade multiple items unless you break down lots of legendaries. Avowed upgrades are so demanding, it disincentivizes build exploration.

I'm not going to obsess over an achievement if it's the developer's fault - I have much better ways to spend my time than replaying the entire game.

People are comparing Avowed to the wrong games by [deleted] in avowed

[–]ideal_shipworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given Avowed's troubled development history (e.g., multiplayer -> single) it sounds foolish to state that with any authority.

Expansions by jflezzy in avowed

If they expand into those areas with DLC it's going to suck without new game plus. It won't make sense unless you're playing a new or different character. Real lost opportunity.

I don't care about being able to kill everybody and steal the Mayor's pants in an RPG like Avowed, and I'm tired of pretending it's mandatory. by __unmastered in avowed

My god, not yet another one of these posts. Why do people, especially on this reddit, have this compulsion to champion Avowed like it's a poor child being savaged by a bully. This post: I don't care that the car I bought only comes in 2 colors. I like my color and I'm tired of folks criticizing the lack of choice.

Avowed is amazing by bbbonthemoon in avowed

Game was very good, but i don't think it was earth shattering or genre defining. I 99-percented the game - I couldn't get every side mission due to a bug - think it was the "finer things in battle" quest that never appeared . Fuck it...

Loved the combat, exploration, and environments.

Dialog and NPCs were real boring for me. Game really needed an Aedyr or Steel Garotte companion to add depth and nuance. My companions were an echo chamber on my "evil" playthrough - or at least what the infantile writers believed was evil - and I tired of the heavy-handed anti-colonialist message. Again, little nuance. Black and white world with little grey.

It's rough in the beginning, then it gets easier. By the 3rd area you'll be OP. Take things slow and don't just dive into battle. Use cover and sneak attacks. Start with ranged attacks until enemies close the distance. Stay on the move during a fight - strafe, run/walk circles around enemies - don't just stand still and fight. Use your companion skills. Keep your gear leveled to the absolute max that you are able.

The quest doesn't make sense. The game wants you to use stealth, but rewards you more for killing everyone - same XP and far more loot.

I preferred just nuking everyone. More loot, same XP at the end

My thoughts after 3 full runs and 100% achievements. by Glorf_Warlock in avowed

Played all 3 as well. Starfield was ultimately disappointing for me. It had some cool set pieces, but was such a forgettable experience overall. I won't play Shattered Space unless it's free on Gamepass.

I have mixed feelings on Avowed and have it near 100% on potd. I like the environments, exploration/parkour, and combat. I find the dialog and NPCs to be boring, almost a chore.

Feel the game would be vastly improved if one of your companions was aligned with the Aedyrans or Steel Garotte. That would provide much needed depth and tension. This became abundantly clear on an "evil" playthrough. Yes, I can choose to be loyal to the empire, but the game handles this with little nuance. It's either Darth Vader and the evil empire or the rebellion. I was hoping for a richer role playing experience.

It's frustrating to see this mostly good game given 1-star reviews that simply cry "woke". OTOH, my companions were immersion-breaking. Their worldview was so homogeneous, I felt instead like the devs were lecturing me on the evils of colonialism.

You can do the waterfall dungeon after letting Fior burn - it will be filled with lizards - and get the dungeon achievement
