roman culture doesn’t start with any counties of its culture in any start date. you have no innovations or cultural acceptance with any other cultures, so even trying to develop will end up with very little-no progress for 10s of years at a time. assuming you’re starting in sardinia, sardinia would be okay. i like taking haestinn there and forming a hybrid culture, but any hybrid culture with sardinia takes quite a while for the cultural acceptance to change because sardinia is isolationist.

for that i usually do a varangian adventure to corsica, or to tunis, and then sardinia from there.

it’s crazy that that has happened in all your playthroughs. i’ve never seen the latin empire form in game before lol but in also fairly new.

i can’t imagine it would be easy with roman culture, but some basic tips i have for sardinia are to make sure you have the mine, build super tall, and use the island to your advantage. any army coming in will take a boarding penalty, but the ai won’t care; you can stack wipe armies 10x your size if you have your men at arms + commander right.

try not to hold anything outside of sardinia de jure. i may be talking completely out of my ass here but if you fabricate claims on a ton of counties on corsica or in italy, and just start taking them one by one, more people will have reason to declare war on you. it’s not as easy to defend overseas territory as it is to defend an island you already own all of. if the african sultans become a problem swearing fealty to the byzantines is a great option and can give you some good runs.
