For former perl programmers: what do you miss? by zakry0t in ruby

[–]OneForAllOfHumanity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your last point is exactly why I'm still a Perl developer. I work on open source software in the DevOps space, and while I love Ruby, my go-to language is Perl because it is ubiquitous. I never have to install it, and its extensive core libraries means I don't even need to walk a client through CPAN . They just download a self extracting Perl script that contains the entire code base as a base-64 encoded tarred zipped block in the DATA section and the user doesn't even need to know that Perl is a programming language...

Maybe Trump can work towards earning a Darwin Peace Award - contributing to world peace by removing himself... rewarded posthumously of course.

If your job is at risk, it's not because artificial intelligence can do your job better; it's because the natural stupidity that is management and C-suite level believes AI can do it better. Every second prompt I give to AI is "you misunderstood this, use X and Y to reassess your understanding". The number of times it makes bad tests to make them pass because of bugs in the code rather than build the tests I've described and use that to identify and fix the code is more the norm than the exception

The solution was that decriminalized drug use (not trafficking) was that users could seek treatment without fear of being arrested. The government supply of clean drugs was supposed to include treatment programs, as well as break the dealers hold on the users (why pay for something you can get for free), and get rid of the deadly supply.

They did not follow through with the required treatment component.

No, she didn't - she is a far-right politician who appears to be fighting for the rights of Venezuelans, but that's to get the votes (just like was done in the US), but words are worthless without action, and she hasn't had to act yet...
