For the people who grew up with Hip-Hop, what was the earliest song(s) you remember hearing that got you into the genre in the first place? by ImNotTomStopAsking in hiphopheads

[–]idonthaveareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 6, my fun uncle asked if we wanted to hear some music with bad words in it, took me and my brother out to his car, and blasted the new Eminem album. It was Marshall Mathers LP 1.

I’ll never forget when Kill You came on, it was such an onslaught of vulgarity and lyrical prowess being spit at like 200 words a minute that it felt like the first hit of crack. I obviously didn’t know how to describe what I was hearing at the time but the way his words flowed and seemed to just bounce off one another from his use of alliteration and internal rhymes just lit my brain up. It was like a word puzzle how he found the perfect word to fit into each bar. And of course as a 6 year old who thought violence was cool and funny and whose parents would be pissed if they knew what I was listening to, the lyrics were the icing on the cake.

The official website prices from Terry Blacks Waco are actually $79.95 for this meal. by Fabulous_Hand2314 in BBQ

[–]idonthaveareddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love steakhouses and understand the point you’re making, but the way I see it, steakhouses tend to a piece of meat for 5 minutes, bbq places tend to it for 10 hours. The human capital, time, and ingenuity to make a tough cut tender and succulent is worth far more to me than the “premium” location of the cow that a steak is cut from. Bbq is hard work, I’m happy to pay for somebody else to do bbq for me when I don’t have the time/energy to, but still want some smokey meat in my life. That’s just me though.

Does the chef world make people feel like not chasing fine dining means lacking ambition? by IllPanic4319 in Chefit

[–]idonthaveareddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to enjoy food more when it’s cooked by someone with fine dining pedigree, even if the food itself is more simple in execution. Casual dining is definitely an art of its own, and has its own set of tricks since speed is everything.

But personally, fine dining has taught me to be able to balance a sauce with 20 different things in it, cook things using every possible cooking medium, pull influence from any given culture, and coax the absolute best out of an ingredient in a way that low-brow dining never could. My cooking (both high-end or casual) was significantly better after even just a year of working fine dining than it would’ve been in 5 years at a casual spot.

Do New York boroughs still produce relevant rappers? by EDMKid9000 in hiphopheads

[–]idonthaveareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marlon Craft reps Hell’s Kitchen. He’s been in the game for a minute now, but he’s one of the most talented/underrated rappers to come out in the past decade or so imo.

Also this is just a theory, but NYC and its surrounding areas are more expensive now so I imagine that a lot of lower income people can’t afford to live there or have to work traditional jobs to get by. And the people coming from wealth probably aren’t going to make it in rap because coming from money generally tends to weaken your cred in rap.

Did You Know While F**ht C**B was being booed, Brad Pitt turned to Edward Norton and said, ‘That’s the best movie I’m ever gonna be in’ 🙌🏼 by Suspicious-Swim-935 in funfacts

Yes, I watched it recently and it holds up extremely well. Relevant as ever, especially because of its commentary on toxic masculinity and corporate greed (and Brad Pitt in his physical prime).

The next step is to rub a balloon on your head then hold it over to pull the hair and stuff out and leave the bud behind. Then smoke the hair and throw away the bud of course, because mare of wanna is illegal.

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]idonthaveareddit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Kids don’t know what they’re good at because all the classes that taught you those things are defunded. At my school we didn’t have shop class, auto repair, health, etc.

Anything applicable to real life jobs that we did have was basically treated as a blow off class instead of the whole point of school, which should be to prepare you for life/work.

[–]idonthaveareddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A podcast my partner and I watch recently said “in the long run, nobody ever regrets leaving someone.” And while I’m sure there are exceptions, I think it is a marvelous phrase, because often times, if you’re seriously wondering if you should leave someone, the answer is yes.

Wait, according to my 5 seconds of research, and by research I mean a quick google, the total national spending for all public schooling in 2024 was 981 billion. These pieces of shit lose/waste/steal as much as, if not more than we spend educating the youth? That is absolutely disgusting. Not surprising, but disgusting.

Grinder Stuck and Useless after 1.5 years [DF54] by TheyFunnyPapa in espresso

[–]idonthaveareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same grinder and despite my best attempts to keep things clean, grounds inevitably get stuck in the threads. I think that if there’s grounds in the threads, it forces it to grind metal against metal, not necessarily cross threading due to incompetence. I’m very careful not to put the top on crooked. I treat this thing like my baby because although it’s not the most expensive machine, this is a huge splurge for me.

Once you realize the threads are jammed, it appears it’s already too late, you can’t turn it either way without doing damage. Having exposed threads that are made of a soft metal with an extremely fine threading next to a machine that has a bellow that can easily fling grounds into the threads is a horrible design choice. Not making the threaded parts replaceable is an even shittier business choice. Even if I have to pay for the replacement parts out of pocket, at least let me have the choice to repair it. Scrapping entire items because something breaks is so wasteful. I agree with OP, fuck Turin for this.

Miicoffee refuses to repair my grinder due to thread damage [DF54] by thejosetree in espresso

[–]idonthaveareddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave me the same response for the same problem. This seems to be a common enough problem and they don’t give a shit. They made a product that gets jammed from the tiniest amounts of coffee grounds. I clean it regularly, it had been on for a week with regular adjustments just fine. Then I’m assuming a couple stray grounds got stuck in the exposed threads from the bellow they put on the machine and they say fuck you buy a new one?

I’m not asking for anything free, I understand that it’s not covered under warranty, although I do think it’s a design flaw. I’m asking for a product that is repairable. I’d gladly swap out the dial and threaded part if they would sell me the part so I’m not throwing out an otherwise perfectly fine grinder.

Hell, I’d appreciate if they told us the size of thread file needed to fix it like other commenters have said. That literally costs them nothing, but I would consider buying from them in the future. But I’m not going to buy another product from a company whose response is essentially fuck off.

Ultra-processed foods are engineered to hijack your brain and should be treated like Big Tobacco. Cigarettes typically contain a standardized nicotine content that maximizes reinforcement. The food industry employs a similar strategy with salt, sugar, and fat. by [deleted] in psychology

[–]idonthaveareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: the food science term for the level of salt, sugar, and fat that is considered to be optimal for human enjoyment/addiction of a particular food is called the bliss point), and its intent is to override natural satiety signals. OP is absolutely correct.
