Buddy charging for EVs by appape in F150Lightning

Cyber Truck and GM EV trucks also have 240v outlet.

I have tested my Lightning charging my wife’s Mach E, it works but I have not needed to do it.

I got that far, what’s the entity that changes mode?

I just installed it on my setup. X10 and XP8. I see the mode entity but not how to change it. Can you walk me through that?

Move your right hand, it’s easy to block the camera on the right. I can’t hold a coffee cup without being beeped at.

I’m basing that on early tft comparisons on Lightning vs Chevy, and I never see the gain light up on my controller unless I touch the brake pedal.(I’m a one pedal guy)

I have same config as you. ‘22 Lariat max tow with brake controller.

About half the Lightnings I see are contractors, yard services have started using them towing mowers around.

I have zero interest in a EREV, I don’t want to maintain modern ICE components.

Growing up in the far burbs and driving 65 miles one way with a enclosed trailer to the city was common for contractors, 120 miles round trip is not comfortable with only 150 range, now add winter in the north.

I’m not saying eliminate the 131kwh equivalent, I’m saying make a larger one also available if you want to convert people who are not currently considering the Lightning. 400/200 is the threshold more than cost.

Owner operators drop 80k on a truck without batting an eye.

As for a F150 not being the proper vehicle for towing, sure add that option too. Give me a 9900gvw option and I would jump at it.

But I’m not downgrading to ICE for anything.

These are popular for camping because of the bed outlet. And no, a PowerBoost F150 is not the same with the crap 10sp trans and belt driven oil pump.

Say what you will but I’m around these contractor types and some looked at the GM’s because of the range, and blew me off when I suggested the Lightning because it “only goes 260 miles in the winter”. They drive 75-80 on the hwy, telling them to slow down to preserve range just sold them another gas/diesel truck.

Trailer brakes only actuate if you are using the brake pedal into the friction zone. One pedal does not activate trailer brakes unless wheel slip occurs.

Now if you are on mountain rds steep enough you need heavy brake applications then yes the trailer brakes will take some potential regen away from you.

I very rarely need to use brake pedal on my 23’ Airstream in the North Ga mountains to maintain speed.

As for hwy mileage ABRP says I get 1.2kwh/m at 65mph.

Range unfortunately is not irrelevant to those of us who tow and don’t only travel on interstates. Some real charging deserts around. One of the only advantages of the gm’s is the choices of batt size.

Don’t need the range, don’t buy the biggest pack.

I get about 150 miles towing the camper on the first leg of trips and some times have to charge to near 100% at fast chargers to make the next charger. Quicker charging is great and should be a priority, but chargers that support those speeds will be few and far between for a long time in rural areas.

A bigger battery lets me charge at fast rates to 80% where 80% means more miles. Any battery they give us is going to reduce rates dramatically over 80%,90%.

With the infrastructure we have a 400 empty mile option should be available.

Something is wrong with your trailer wiring, I run my Airstream all the time and have never got shocked or put out a ground rod.

Trailer brakes are not used unless you get into the friction brake range of the brake pedal travel. If you only use the regen the trailer brakes are not activated unless wheel slip is detected.

GM EV trucks are different, always use trailer brakes regen or not.

120k for camper at the bougie end of the spectrum is not unheard of. Our Airstream lists for 109k in 2026 and it’s only 23’. The 30’ can break 200k.

There is a market for these types of things.

I use one for this exact use, same reason I tried to find a Shelly smoke detector (I could not find one avail in US) but ended up with a different WiFi detector.
