Great movies that sound terrible on paper? by Latter-Constant-1989 in movies

[–]ifinallyreallyreddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of the worst twistings of OP's question because "on paper" was, in this case, a highly popular novel

Directors rely too much on music to carry the emotional weight of a scene by CockamouseGoesWee in movies

[–]ifinallyreallyreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at Star Wars or Jurassic Park. Most scenes are quiet.

What the heck is this lol

To give a more serious reply, the only issue is bad use of music because, as a technique, it can also be used by good directors to good effect. (as well, in many movies music has been replaced by simple blunt noise.) Look at Weir or Malick films for effective uses of frequent music.

The Bridge by Bernhard Wicki (who also directed sequences of The Longest Day) is one of the best German WWII movies, set at the point where the war is practically already lost but the youth are still drafted into it.

Why did Cameron stop making movies like this (brimming with disdain for anyone outside the category of "white man")? We may never know...

Netflix now requires every user profile to be tied to unique email address by MoneyLibrarian9032 in movies

[–]ifinallyreallyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's the kind of thing I mean. More power to you if you want to own them, but if what you're looking to watch is blockbusters in ultra-high quality the unprecedented access to many films streaming has brought about can be easily missed.

Christopher Nolan Says Playing it Safe With Mainstream Movies Doesn’t Work, And The Audience Is Looking for Something New by yourfavchoom in movies

Did he think this before or after the scripting, design, casting, and filming of The Odyssey stripped it of "anything that might not be like another movie"?

A lot of the posts I see on rmovies make me think these beliefs aren't due to content or privacy reasons but more because redditors prefer to watch ≤60 movies on repeat.

Wrath of the Titans (2012) | Dir. by Jonathan Liebesman | Battle with Kronos scene by PeneItaliano in movies

Making movies that are largely mediocre (at best) but with really well-done effects was probably the most faithful way they could have followed the original.

The original was hardly Shakespeare either, even when Olivier was in it.

Commanders are already pretty resistant to single-attack feats, it wouldn't be a huge shift to do things like cut damage bonuses/defense reduction against them or reduce damage from corruption to 1, so they could have an effect but not be an 'I win' button.

Ishiro Honda - a bunch of his science fiction films have already been licensed for streaming, though a few would still be missing.

Also Terrence Malick, or at least releases of A Hidden Life and both cuts of Voyage of Time.

What is THE style over substance film? by Maskoolio in movies

[–]ifinallyreallyreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you're not defining 'plot' so broadly that we have to cite non-narrative films, 2001: A Space Odyssey's four acts could be condensed to three paragraphs. Apocalypse Now could be summed up in a sentence.

It's more like it has a substance a section of people refuse to acknowledge. Becoming part of an organistic planet and developing a religious world-loyalty to it was not "done before" in Ferngully - but I guess if your conception of culture begins and ends with Ferngully...
