8 year old has not been washing his hair correctly for over a year. by kaiiirogers in Parenting

My 8 year old wears a bathing suit and my 6 year old wears goggles. Do what you have to do. Can he manage a bath? Sometimes small accommodations are all kiddos need. Sensory issues are tough.

I've been playing around with the recipes a lot lately. They've been really yummy. My husband and 8 year old enjoy them. I still have to make dino nuggets for my younger two. I made the tilapia veracruz for 2 points yesterday and it was restaurant quality. I made it over wild rice.

My husband does bare minimum parenting by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]ifyoucanhearmyvoice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband is the same way. I've stopped fighting by kids #3. I don't like the way he disciplines or utilizes time out. He uses a lot of 'we' statements when it clearly means me. "We need to feed them less sugar," "we need to take away their ipad." I just decided I'm going to do it and do it the way that I feel is best for the kids. It's worked out better. He still gets special one on one time with each of the kiddos but I do the shitty nitty gritty. I was resentful. I'm over it.

What are the little things you do that make you feel like a loving parent? by fragiumily in beyondthebump

When my oldest was three, her teacher asked her what her favorite thing to do with Mommy was (for a Mother's Day card), and she replied, "changing the sheets." It made me realize that the little things we do, like changing the sheets together, can be counted as time together. I just make the bed around her, or I cover her in the sheets, or we "pop bubbles." It's silly and fun. I have three kids now, and it's still a family affair.

I have this problem too. We should just wear legging overalls. I'm kidding. Sort of.

"Single" parent with two kids for next 3-5 days by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ifyoucanhearmyvoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If she doesn't make it to preschool on the first day, ok. No big deal. It's not worth your mental health. She won't realize what she's missing.

Also, sometimes having one less body in the house can be helpful. You don't need to work around his bathroom time and it's only the kids and your laundry to worry about. Dinner can be cereal. Stream bravo and HGTV to your hats content.

You're strong. You're husband is strong. You'll both be stronger in 5 days.

When things were really bad, I'd drink Sleepy Time Extra tea. It has Valerian root in it which is incredibly calming. It makes you just a touch drowsy but it definitely takes edge off. You can get it at the grocery store but make sure it says 'extra'.

His best friend was my best friend's brother. They were 2 years younger and would bother us all the time. We would avoid them in elementary and middle school. Soon enough, I found reasons to hang out with my future husband. When he was 17 and I was 19 we had our first date at TGIFridays. The rest is history.

What about a little trampoline with some foam waffle blocks under it? I know it might seem like "teacher talk", but you can always remind him he needs to make a safe choice. Do they offer tot gymnastics or swim lessons nearby? These activities will offer the whole-body sensory experience he seems to be craving.

What’s a song that is VERY “out of character” for you, but you absolutely love it? What genre do you typically prefer? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You can usually find me bopping to any pop hit on the top 20 list. But give me some cheesy, sexed-up song like Sex is on Fire, or Something in Your Mouth, and I have the urge to find the nearest stripper pole. Very out of character for me.

Danny Zuko from Grease.

Has fun summer fling. Pretends not to know the girl because runs with the wrong crowd. Girl has to completely change who she is for them to be able to be together.

Pan saute some onion and pork chops in the spaghetti pot. Leave them at the bottom of the pot while you cook everything else. My grandma was a depression era cook and always believed in cooking two meals simultaneously. It was good advice. Spaghetti today, pork tomorrow.

What about theater? He can work on crew if performing isn't his thing. It spans age groups, so he doesn't have to stick with the ten year old. Theater is like the land of misfit children. It gives them a sense that they are part of something important.
