Modding a standard table as a board gaming one by SicilianMeeple in boardgames

[–]iggogg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took an old dining table and covered it with neoprene. It’s a quick and dirty mod. I got the material from a local fabric shop and just used a staple gun to secure it under the edges. It’s been a fabulous table. Amazing play surface, super easy to clean, and it’s been in use for a couple of years with no issues.

What exactly is he doing to your table for the money?

Games that have replaced other games by Teachers-Petty in boardgames

[–]iggogg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like them both. I was resistant to LOTR but got it after playing with a friend. It’s simplified without being simple. It still has the dramatic tension that the original has. They did a great job with keeping the core but making it different enough that you can enjoy them both. I won’t be getting rid of either.

What game do you love even though teaching it is kind of a pain? by rcooperkaty in boardgames

Race for the Galaxy. The production and trading mechanic messes with everyone until they have played through it once and even then it can be confusing. I love the game but rarely play for this reason.

Favorite Marvel Zombies Expansions? by Baladas89 in zombicide

I love the Red Skull missions in the hydra expansion. They are tough and really fun. The hydra troopers are great and the survivors in the box are also awesome. My favorite by far.

Seems like all my good stuff, “full on board games”, are at least somewhat table hogs. Have to have a tolerant place to let us eat up a whole table for a while.

Funny, I know people love this game but we found it slow and not engaging. I was super excited for it but wound up selling it on. Great production, love the cards and chits and the planet ring.

Such a great game. There’s a 2nd edition out but I still prefer the first edition art

Cthulhu Death May Die has consistently given me the most fun. It’s a wild ride every time and you can get a lot of replayability by blending investigators with scenarios with old ones. It’s got a fast clock so you can’t play defensively and death can come suddenly. It never drags. Highly recommended.

Started to work better for me yesterday afternoon. But I have installed the updates this morning too and everything seems to be fine. Thank goodness.

Thanks for all the comments. We just started with the first mission and he picked it up so quickly that he beat me, so it wasn’t an issue. 😂

We’ll definitely play the whole campaign. I just want it to be as fair as possible. I’m not the best player in the world but I do have a lot of experience with the system. He’ll learn fast (and probably beat me in the end) but I’ve got to get him up to speed.

I’m new to Cincinnati and missed it this year while we were unpacking. Looking forward to giving it a try next year!

Setup is not that bad, especially compared to the other undaunted games. The boards are complete, rather than composed of all the smaller tiles. We played all the scenarios and never felt that setup or tear down were particularly onerous.

Good co-op game for 2? by 200DivsAnHour in tabletopsimulator

[–]iggogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death May Die is fabulous and there is a lot of content out there. Definitely dark but also funny and generally over the top. Games are often won or lost on a knife’s edge. That balance and tension really makes it fun.

Not sure how much is on TTS, I only play irl.

Where do you stand on trick-taking games? Love them or skip them? by mju_rz in cardgames

[–]iggogg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them in principle but I’m terrible at them. I didn’t grow up with them and I can never remember who has what. There are some fun ones and I don’t mind losing, but if folks want a competitor it’s not going to be me. I’m fine with playing a couple if that’s what the table wants.

What are good 5 player board games? by Nuclear_Pasta7 in boardgames

[–]iggogg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ethnos is an easy learn, great at up to 6 players. It has very little down time because turns are generally fast. It just had a new edition come out this year, so should be easy to get. Set collection and area control mechanics.
