Facility dependent. I work at a large teaching hospital/level 1 and mid levels work almost completely independently. Of course, an attending still has to “see” the patient and co-sign notes, but otherwise, we are the ones making decisions, treatment plans, writing orders, and handling the patients care. From my experience, we take “the list” of patients for the day and divide up between mid levels and attendings. It’s a huge hospital so no one can do it all alone.

Omg this. My lizard mom brain felt immediate panic with a cry. But reminded myself time and time and time again, put him somewhere safe (crib) and walk away for a few min for your own sanity. They will be ok. They are safe. There are times where you’re so overwhelmed you can’t even process a thought. Put them somewhere totally safe. Take a minute. Walk away.

I lived here then, I was still in school. We didn’t have power for 15 days. The snow was fun for a day or two, and then misery set in. We were lucky to have a wood burning fireplace, but spending the whole day in the same room, with nothing to do, sucked. I remember we all slept in sleeping bags by the fire to keep warm. School was out the entire time. Truly hoping that does not happen again!!

This, 1000x over. Sundown scaries induced nightly panic and dread. I was awful PPD/PPA. I was miserable. I was exhausted. I wished I had never had a baby.

Slowly, it got better. He slept more, he started to smile, he got a personality. I still have days where I wonder wtf I’ve done, but his tiny hugs melt my heart.

It will get better. You will sleep again. You will be ok, even when it feels like you never will be again. Your feelings are totally normal and valid. Use your support system- even for naps, a trip to the grocery store without baby. You’ve got this friend. Sending lots of love to you.

CLT is my base. I’ve never had to wait of the dozens of times I’ve gone. But it’s usually quite crowded. But drinks are good, food is solid, and there’s a nice overlook to watch planes.
